Terrible Service, questionable food handling 3/15/2010

Granted it was a rather busy weekend evening, the service was unspeakably terrible. I put my name on the ""list"", and was told that the wait is about 15-20 min. I waited, standing outside the restaurant, and noticed that people who put their names on the list after I had (even those with same number of parties) were being seated. I asked what was going on, and I was told that I was ""next to be seated"". I waited for another 10 minutes, and noticed the same trend. To make things worse, I noticed that the person at the bakery section was putting her hand all the way into the trash can (half of her arm), and then not even washing her hands, and proceeded to service bakery orders. Not sure why Sisley decided to seat others first, and kept on ignoring me, and what's more alarming is the way they are handling food. I'd definitely avoid this establishment. Pros: Location Cons: Terrible Service, questionable sanitary condition more

Rip Off--Stay Clear 11/27/2009

After a movie and light shopping, decided to drop into this franchise Italian restaurant, lured from The Oaks Mall by a prominent Happy Hour sign featuring $3 house wines and $5 martinis--the first lie/rip-off. Restaurant was virtually empty as the ma?tre d' steered me and my date away from empty booths to obviously less private and less comfortable seating. When we politely pointed out that we preferred the empty booth nearby, we were told that 'the manager's' policy was was to reserve booths for bigger parties, and then gave us the choice of sitting outside (a chilly below 60 degrees), or the less desirable table for four (we were two.) After we settled for the indoor seating, a party of four was shortly seated at the booth we had just requested (apparently our four-seater wasn't good enough for them)--always a sign of bad management (I use to manage restaurants.) We ordered two glasses of the house red, where we were told by our waiter that indeed the best of three choices was the chianti. The wine arrived with a breadplate, and both I and my date reached the same conclusion--the wine tasted like spiked Welch's grape juice, but what did we expect for $3 'Happy Hour' wine? My date ordered the pasta carbonara, which was very good, not too cheesy, cooked al dente, with a nice touch of pancetta (or whatever.) I ordered the more pricey Veal Marsala, which was buried in what one could only describe as $20 worth of cous cous--delicious cous cous, but the three 1/2 dollar-size medallions of veal were very stingy for the price. The bill came, to the tune of roughly $55 (we had been there maybe 40 minutes). We called the waiter over to point out that we were billed the full price for the drinks, not the Happy Hour price. The waiter said that he would speak to the manager, but that the Happy Hour price was only if you sat at the bar (which would have made our bill $6), not if you sat in the restaurant (where again, we dined on 8x that amount.) After perhaps a lightening fast two minutes, the waiter returned saying that he spoke to the manager, and that the full charge price would apply. Repeat: they lure you in with false advertising of reduced price alcohol between 3 and 7 pm, seat you in undesirable seating even though the restaurant is empty, serve you stingy main courses, then have the balls to tell you that Happy Hour doesn't apply to a $50+ meal. I pointed out to our waiter that this was a terrible way to run a restaurant, that we would never come back, and that we had no hesitancy to spread the word out there to warn others not to likewise be taken for fools. I'm sure the $1 tip we left sparked some additional 'management' dialog, but in the meantime--STAY CLEAR OF THIS RESTAURANT and go to the CHEESECAKE FACTORY across from them. You may have to wait a little longer, but at least you get real value and a respectful, enjoyable experience. (We would have left no stars, but the waiter did deserve credit for his politeness and obvious embarrassment at his boss' 'policies'.) Pros: Convenient to The Oaks Mall Cons: Over-priced and bad management more

AWESOME Italian restaraunt in L.A area 12/14/2008

EXCELLENT restaurant, service, environment, and food!! I highly recommend this to those that like a change of pace and don't mind spending a little more than the norm for dinner. Trust me the slight increase in price is more than worth the amount of extras this place has over a regular run of the mill ""Italian restaurant"". Pros: Food, Service, valet parking, ambience, bar, desserts, cozzy feeling more

Best tiramisu I have ever had 4/23/2008

I took a grou[p of friends here before a concert at the TO auditorium. The staff was f riendly and the service is prompt. The menu is very extensive and includes gourmet salads, pastas, specialty pizzas (I like the gorgonzola and pear pizza) and typical Italian entrees such as chicken, veal and seafood. On my last visit I had the grilled salmon special and it was cooked perfect. It is easy for families since everyone can find something they like. Save room for desserts, expecially the tiramisu which is the best I have ever had anywhere. Pros: Food and lots of good menu choices for the whole family Cons: Drop someone off to put your name in, then go find a parking spot more

Great personal vibe! 3/12/2008

My fiance and I went to Sisley last week and had a great time. The warm ambiance was perfect for our date. The service was top-notch and made us feel at home. The manager stopped by and welcomed us, treating us with great care. Then the food came. Wow. The service was good.... but the food was fantastic! We ordered sauteed mushrooms and our server was kind enough to let us know that this particular appetizer takes a few extra minutes. It was well worth the wait. We were constantly dipping our breadsticks in the sauce after we had finished the mushrooms. The pasta (penne bolognese) was cooked just right and the dessert was a perfect ending to an enjoyable evening ( we had some concontion called an angel kiss). We will definitely be back. Pros: Sauteed Mushrooms. Pasta. Service. Cons: parking more

A FAN FOR LIFE 10/23/2007

I have now been to 4 of the 5 locations and I am a FAN FOR LIFE. The lunch's that i experience at Sisley are wonderful the restaurant is up-beat friendly and welcoming, not to mention the wonderful food! I have eaten at Sisley for many different occasions and I have never left unsatisfied. I love the dinners and the lunch's Sisley is a great place to go on a date, business meeting, or spend quality time with family. As a business man I am very critical about the places I choose to dine in restaurants today dont serve quality food. Sisley is my place to go! From the servers to the food, drinks, desserts and the AMAZING BRUNCH they offer something for any time of day. The last time I was at Sisley I was informed of their Happy Hour and great prices for Kids meals, its wonderful to have a family owned business that is so in-touch with the community. WAY TO GO SISLEY! more

Service Needs Improvement 12/18/2006

Visited the restaurant the other night and was disappointed. Service was lousy and not up to par. Sat at the bar and was just waiting and waiting until 2 other gentlemen had to say something on my behalf that I was waiting......even if a restaurant is busy, theres no excuse to treat customers this way. Ended up having a drink and eating elsewhere.... Pros: Ambience Cons: Service more

Decent food for a chain restaurant 7/8/2006

I've been to Sisley's at the Thousand Oaks, Valencia, and Sherman Oaks locations. First impression is that the decor is updated and inviting. Of the times I've been at night, it is dimly lit and provides somewhat of a romantic setting. The food reminds me of the the types of dishes that could be found at Cheesecake Factory (referring to the pasta dishes). I've had dishes ranging from the salads, pastas, and entrees and are all affordable. The food portions are well sized and the selection is decent. Although Sisley's is a ""chain"" with decent selections, it is not the best italian food I've had. It is, however, a restaurant I will still frequent despite my comments above. more

Good Food! 1/5/2006

Our first impression as we walked in the door was the smell of the wood-fired pizza oven. We started out the meal with a good Caprese salad and an excellent Cedarbrook Chardonnay. We split the generous entree which was a wonderful sea bass filet with a lemon and caper sauce on a bed of goodtasting mashed potatos and spinach. We finished with a strawberry chocolate tart and cappucino. Everything tasted great and the service was really good. We'll be back. more
