Fabulous 5/9/2007

I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant for a long time and was just waiting for an opportunity to eat there. It finally happened and I am happy to say was well worth the wait. Be prepared to spend more than normal for lunch (I didn't have dinner so I can't comment on that) ours ran around $45 for two but it was so worth it. First the Vermont cheddar soup is luscious, creamy and yet with that little bite that you would expect. A very adult version. I had a salad which may be the best salad that I have ever eaten, it had fried brie, spiced mixed nuts and strawberries all atop the freshest of field greens. My husband had the shepherds pie and was very pleased with his choice. I agree with the previous poster the ice tea was delicious, mango I think. For dessert I had the lemon semifreddo and it was both lovely to look at and yummy to eat. Service was excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone traveling in the area. more

Fine New England Dining 12/10/2006

If you ever find yourself in the town of Queeche, Vermont, you must stop by the Simon Pearce restaurant. The White River runs through the town, and ages ago a dam was built so that the glass factory could harness it's power. The main dining room offers a beautiful view of the impressive falls and on a summer day is a fabulous spot to have lunch. Simon Pearce is known for its hand-blown glass and pottery. The main building is a store and factory. If you find yourself waiting for a table, which often happens, stroll around the shop or watch a rugmaker weave a carpet, or a hand-blown glass be made and pottery going into the kiln. All the tableware used at the restaurant is hand made at the factory below. The menu is ever changing and I like that they use the resources from local farmers so vegetables are always fresh and ever changing. I've had crab, chicken and many salads here, all fabulous and inventive. The decor is rustic, charming and elegant. They also make quite a delicious iced tea mix. If you've in this small town you must stop by just to browse and learn about how they create such beautiful pieces. It's certainly one of the best restaurants in the area. more
