We almost didn't stop at Shriver's 12/19/2012

We almost didn't stop at Shriver's after reading the negative review from February. But we're so glad that our adventurous nature and good reviews from friends made us go try it for ourselves! Food was hot. Meat was cooked to perfection and tasty. Mash was yummy and baked beans awesome! This is definitely our favorite barbecue restaurant now. Go and tr it. You'll see what we're talking about. more

OK, this little out of the way place is worth a try. The building and interior is a western type atmosphere. The cashier is NOT very friendly or welcoming; especially for the new comer. I ordered the spare ribs with BBQ beans and cornbread souffle. The ribs were very tender but seemed boiled and a bit fatty, the variety of BBQ sauces were fair (a bit salty), the BBQ beans seemed to be from a can, the cornbread souffle was VERY good and definitely a must have. I also had a piece of the peach cobbler (that came fresh from the oven)....DE-licious! My server was very friendly, quick and attentive. I will go back to try other things. more

Not like gasoline or diesel,but still, running a barbecue pit in the South on A gas-fired oven? What's up with that?\r \r Any flavor presents in their food comes exclusively from the sauce. There is no true smoking here so far as I know. \r \r The food is not objectionable at all in fact it's pretty tasty. But being that there're so many other establishments in the area that cook on a real hardwood fire I would best say that unless this is the only place that you can get to go to, look for authentic slow cooked barbecue elsewhere. \r \r Again the food is very good, the service is very good, and the location is pretty good. Guys please buy a woodfired smoker. more

The food was delicious, portions were big. Corn soufle was incredible. Our waitress "Kris" was the best. U gotta eat there and u will see for yourself. I will be a new regular since it's down the street. more

Excellent !! Bbq'd ribs were fantastic. Catfish was seasoned perfectly. Corn souffle was dessert!! Collards were a little vinegary but a fantastic place otherwise!! more

We recently stopped at Shiver's on our drive to Key West and I had a pulled pork. I loved the sweet sauce and have been trying to duplicate it. We are from Michigan and probably won't be that way again. Could you start a chain in Michigan! The other three people with me loved their dinner too and the sweet potato fries were excellent too! more

Shiver's has been there near Homestead... well... forever, I think. And there's a good reason that is survives and thrives. It's darn good. If you want good Miami BBQ the way it used to be, and a wonderful family atmosphere, then Shiver's is the best. Grouper, okra, pulled pork, beef... all the best sides. Ask the owner for a sample of their new jalapeño grits and cheese- you've never tasted better (not on the menu yet). You'll love the cole slaw and the hushpuppies. They have a choice of sauces, including the warm stuff with meat drippings. Definitely worth the drive! more

Best BBQ in South FL 5/20/2006

We have been going to Shivers since our children were little, and now we have also taken our granddaughter to Shivers. Shiver's not only has the best BBQ St. Louis ribs, collard greens fried corn and fried okra, but the owners and staff treat us like family. The rustic ambiance is like no other. I'm a Baby Back Ribs lover, therefore, I order ribs from every restaurant that serves them. These are the best!!! Perfectly smoked and the taste stays in the mouth even after a while. Also, their BBQ Beans are flavorful as well as their french fries that are crispy, crispy, crispy. For now, ""THIS IS THE PLACE FOR RIBS"".
