My husband and I enjoy vacations with a lot to do on the road during the day followed by evenings at secluded, peaceful campgrounds with amenities. That's nearly impossible during the camping season because a campground with amenities has lots of kids and is not peaceful. So, we now take the bulk of our vacation during mid-week, after Labor Day, when kids are back in school.
With that preface, Shir-Roy Camping Area is a 5-star location for us. Once schools are back in session, this campground is peaceful and serene during weekdays. The sites are wooded and flat. There is a large pond with minimal development around it. We took out a rowboat and had a splendid morning enjoying the peacefulness, feeling as if the pond was ours alone.
The owner is delightful and helpful. We've put Shir-Roy on our list of campgrounds at which we plan longer off-season stays, when we need an R&R stretch.
