Sharp Edge Restaurant & Bar

One of my favorite spots to go with a large group. The servers are always accommodating and polite. Also, really tasty food and a huge variety of beer. This is a great bar all around! more

The beer selection is the only saving grace for this place!\r \r Five of my friends and I decided to have dinner on a Thursday night... The host seemed ""annoyed"" by our request for 6 and we discussed amoungst ourselves if we should split up, however we were lead to the back of the restaurant where there were three available large tables that could accommodate a party of six and only a two top seated in the dining room at a smaller table. The dining room was rather vacant.\r \r The host let one of the servers know there was a table for her and after some back and forth commotion which we could overhear concerning who ""wanted"" the table, someone came to take our drink order. Let's just say not the most welcoming feeling I have ever had.\r \r The service was HORRIBLE and food was very disappointing. We had two orders of mussels to share and three of us spit them out as they were bad. personally did not try the crab stuffed artichokes and this was because of the reviews of the table, they tasted “fishy” and were almost to the point of inedible. I smelled the platter and it smelled fishy and sour. A friend had ordered a pizza and when it didnt come out with the rest of the food our waitress said it would be right out. Well 20 minutes later we cancelled the order. \r \r We had to flag down the waitress for drink refills and I ended up drinking a friends water as I finished mine and no one was available to request a refill.\r \r We also had an issue with the check. Since we spoke with the manager concerning our terrible experience, she was kind enough to process a 20% discount on the food. However, the 18% gartuity was placed on the check when it clearly states ""Parties of eight (8) or more."" We were not willing to pay the 18% and crossed this number out and wrote in a gratuity we felt more appropriate. However upon the settlement of the credit card, we were charged the full 18%.\r \r This has left a very bitter taste in my mouth and a queezy feeling in my stomach. Would definately NOT return to this establishment and would recommend you avoid it as well. more

Best selection of beer in the city by far. They focus on Belgian imports, but their domestic microbrew selection is also vast. They also have a really good happy hour where all Belgian drafts are half-price; a good thing because the Belgian drafts are pretty expensive when purchased during regular hours. Atmosphere is very laid-back also, and a very relaxing place to sit and have a few drinks.\r \r The service can be a bit iffy, some servers and bartenders are great, others kind of clueless and screw up a lot. I go there a lot though, so it doesn't really bother me. And I have always been treated kindly there.\r \r I'm not a huge fan of their food either, though I typically stick with the 40 cent buffalo wing bites during happy hour, which I really like. Their pizza is pretty good too, and you can get a small pizza for $3 during happy hour.\r \r Overall, if you like beer, you will probably like Sharp Edge. If you don't like beer, you can probably find better places to eat for the same price. more

The Sharp Edge is my favorite place in Pittsburgh... the folks below are right...\r \r The food is good, the beer is absolutely awesome and the service usually stinks. The servers are typically a little rude and screw up quite often... it's funny that normally I would be mad at this but at the Sharp Edge it's sort of the culture... you just sort of adapt and enjoy your beer. The beer is the focus and the bartenders are on point at all times... Eating outside in the summertime is great too... nice deck. Trust me.. the positives outweight the negatives... it's a great place. By the way... ignore the comment about the portions. It's a fun place BUT THE SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS... we waited 20 minutes before we even got the waiter to come over.... he MESSED up my order bigtime... had to wait even longer for my meal after everyone else's arrived.... and the fries were cold.... absolutely horrendous.. The last time i went there, we also waited a while before the waitress came over.... bad service is a common complaint among patrons at Sharp Edge.. it's a shame that such a well-known and fun establishment can't manage to hire better workers.... it really makes them look bad... oh well hopefully the owner will do something about it. more

If you are looking for a Chimay, this is the place- lambics and other great Belgian beers abound. However, the menu is trying to be a gastropub, and the portions (for what they charge) are terrible. Great beer cannot make up for horrendous service- from extremely long wait times for food to absent-minded and rude servers, the Sharp Edge has seen better days. It's resting on it's laurels- it is one of the best places in the Northeast to get a great selection of Belgians, imports, and micros, but there are better places to actually enjoy a meal. You know a place is serious about beer, when they have a beer menu alphabetized by country of origin. There are beers for everyone here. Belgians, stoudt, lager, ale, pilsner, double bock, abby ale, nitrogenateds, and flavored lambics. Many of the Belgians are available on draft (approximately 25) and are half-price during happy hour. Can't decide??? Try a taster rack of Belgians, nitrogenateds, or micro-drafts. The food is creative and inspired by the beers. Soups, pizzas, chicken and beef entrees often include a traditional Belgian brew as one of the primary ingredients. For a less messy alternative to wings, try the buffalo bites with your choice among 5 or 6 sauces. Pomme frittes (french fries) with assorted dipping sauces go great with beer as well. P.S. My husband and his friends usually head out to watch the Football game at local or city Pubs. So, one day I asked where do you guys go. He said out in Pittsburgh. OH, I said how about inviting the wifes for once. He agreed to (to my surprise), so this time all of the hubbies and wifes headed out to Sharp's Edge on St. Clair St, off of Baum Blvd in Pittsburgh, about 20 minutes from where we live in Robinson Twp. We had a great time and the food was great. To, top it off we watched the Game on the clearest large screen. The Bartender said it was in HDTV. The other sports bars like Damon's lacked in clarity and sound. We wasted our money there. But at Sharp's Edge the audio was even and easily heard, even during all of the cheering on for the Steelers. Pros: Food, Entertainment, Clean Atmosphere Cons: hours more

WoW, I enjoyed the food and its' atmosphere. The service was great and the burger and side dishes were very satisfying. Most of all, they had a large 8 foot wide screen with great audio near the bar area. The location is private but yet comfortably accessible. I enjoyed watching the games on the screen in HDTV format. I have not yet been in a location that provided such great quality video on such a large front projection screen. The other sport bars that I have been to had large screen televisions, however, the visuals were very blurry and discolored and the audio sucked. This is a great place to go. I've lived in the area for several years and didn't know until recently where this great neighborhood place was hidden. Went for dinner last week with husband and 2 yr old son hoping for a kid-friendly atmosphere...and that's just what we found. Duck sausage and brie on foccacia was unusual but very tasty. It was washed down with a delicious Belgian beer (way too many names to ever remember). Husband had the lamb burger...excellent. Sweet potatoe fries were fresh and crispy. Staff was not rattled by a request to substitute a small bowl of pasta in lieu of the children's offerings for my son. Would recommend for a relaxing evening out. Pros: good food, kid-friendly more

the beer selection is beyond belief especially the belgians. All are fresh, poured inthe correct glassware and the sampler for 12bucks is a great way to start. The food, on the other hand is not so great. Ordered an abbey burger with alebraised onions and their belgian frites. I guarentee that every person who dislikes this bar is somebody who goes in expecting a coors light and upset because they have DogfishHead 90minIPA on tap, but not IC Light. These people do not belong at the Edge. It is a great bar, with great beer and great food for those who are into that. If you want to have regular beer from the big brewers, ship this place. If you want great beers from all over the world and the best US micros and craft brewers, you're in the right place. There are brews here that you never could imagine having access to in the US or a town the size of Pittsburgh. The staaf is great and the pizza is out of this world.
