Perception is reality for us all. I have a totally different view of Dr. Shank and staff than Tony V. and Scott S. We have been taking our dogs and cats to this facility for over 20 years and have had no problems. From simple care to losing beloved pets Dr. Shank has been a wonderful, knowledgeable vet and a very caring person. As is normal over the years we have come in with a wide variety of of issues with our sweet pets. Dr. Shank's counsel has been that of a problem solver. Two decades have proven to us he loves animals and cares for his customers (he has a very good rep. among our S. Florida friends and neighbors). Our two dogs look forward to visiting (they get monthly baths) as the doctor and his staff treat them very well--their wagging tails give their feelings away.\r Lastly, please note as Miami Hurricanes fans it is highly unusual to say great things about an Ohio State trained vet but in Dr. Shanks case we have no problem praising him and his people.\r more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Worst vet EVER. I've been taking my 3 dogs to this vets since 2011. I dropped my dog off Friday for a dental procedure. They had agreed to finance me the procedure in house, due to the cost (875.00). When I went today they gave me my dog. After taking copies of my credit cards and driver license, had me due a credit application. When I was denied, Jerry Shank the owner, attempted to pry my dog out of my arms. He then began to verbally abuse me stating that if I had a low credit score I must be dis-honest and refused to give me my dog. I called 911, when the BSO arrived he informed me that they get called here every few weeks. Also when sheriff was there they dropped my bill from 875 to 550, with no justification. I want to prevent everyone from experiencing what happened to me. Do not bring your pets here. more

I just took my two adopted pets there because they've been having upper respiratory tract issues and I just can say it's been a very positive experience so far. Dr. Shank seems to know a lot about animals, but also is very sweet and nice with them. Angela the Hospital Administrator also was very kind and clear about my dog condition and all of them, including Scarlette the assistant, were really sweet and affectionate with my pets. I hope my poor babies get better soon. I think this place may be the one I pick up to take care of all my animals health. And I love the office pet, Jordan. How cute and sweet cat! :D more

Concerned 2/18/2012

To Whom It May Concern: I will be calling to speak with someone in person and if need be visiting the Humane Society in person. This is something that concerns me and kinda pissed me off. I took my dog Olive in for the low cost spaying at the Shank Animal Hospital on 2-9-12 and her stitches were removed on 2-18-12, once the stitches were removed i had to take her home and put her in her cage and go directly to work. I got home that afternoon and noticed a raw spot on her that looked like something had come undone, there was no bleeding at all and the dog wasn't and still isn't licking it but the look of it had me worried. I called Shank Animal Hospital this morning to see if anyone was there or what to do about it and toward the end of my conversation, Im assuming it was the vet, he asked what i got the normal service or Pals.....I wasn't sure what he meant and told him i went through the Humane Society, his response to that was ""Oh, im not coming in today for that"" Sooo Im thinking to myself, what an ass, does he care about the animals or does he care about money. Instead of the 60, if i had paid a reg vet price of an average of $250+ dollars would that be enough for you to come in to check on a dog you operated on and your vet techs removed the stitches and that im concerned about this area that looks like raw meat from the inside of my dog. I've never heard good things about this vet office since i moved to south florida, but im the type of person to give someone a chance to prove word of mouth wrong, in this case however it is correct....i will not EVER take my dog back to this place for any reason at all. Since the Humane Society is using this vet and has your name on the line i thought you should know my experience and take it for what it is, im sitting in the animal ER right now while someone looks at my dog since he couldn't be bothered. more
