Ciao Bella Now Uses Fillers in their Ice Cream! 6/12/2011

Diasppointed to see that many (all? - we had their chocolate and triple espresso) of their ice creams now use - Guar Gum - Locust Bean Gum - Carrageenan all at the same time. Yikes! We loved the ice cram they make, but now won't touch it. Had some lately and wondered why it tasted funny. Then we read the list of ingredients. Looks like the expansion of their business drove a once great brand to focus more on profits than on the quality that got them to the top. more

Overrated 5/15/2010

I wanted to see what the long lines were about at this UWS burger joint. The place draws a cross section of the community, but the people watching was better than the food. I had a shackburger, which cost a dollar more than the usual burger, but was just a burger with cheez whiz and mayo on it. The meat was nothing special. Fries were average, and I paid almost $3 for a fancy root beer, which was no better than typical root beer. This is a cut above the fast food chains, but they do not offer a superior burger experience. I don't plan to be back. Pros: Decent burgers Cons: Long lines, overpriced for the quality, not enough seats more

Shackalicious 2/21/2010

No matter which location you frequent, shake shack never disappoints. Their location on the upper west side probably has the shortest lines of the branches, which isn't saying much, but its worth the wait. Went here Sunday and the line was out the door, but the line moves quickly. Split a shack burger, chicago dog, fries and custard with cider donuts and caramel mixed in with one of my friends. It was decadence at its finest. They make such a great burger there. Their hot dog is messy but has all the works and tons of flavor. And their custard is the perfect ending to the meal. Pros: burgers, shakes Cons: long lines more

Top 3 Burger Spots in NYC 4/17/2009

I've been to Shake Shack about 6 times since it opened. The burgers and the BUNS are so good its addictive. The cheese fries are absolutely amazing as well. Its a salty, chemically kind of cheese but its incredible. I can't say enough wonderful things about Shake Shack. Pros: Totally delicious Cons: not enough seating more

Yummy! 3/11/2009

First of all, I didn't have to wait at all... We went around 8pm on a Wednesday night for dinner and there was no line. Had the original Shack Burger and it was super yummy... very juicy and flavorful meat... perfect portion too. We also had a bottle of the Shack Shiraz which was a great compliment to the burger. Only drawback was that the cheese on the fries tasted like cheese whiz... plain fries would have been better. I also got to tast the peppermint custard... wow... that was so smooth, creamy, and lightly refreshing. ^^ more

Best burgers in NYC 1/10/2009

The burgers, shakes and fries here are phenomenal and are a must have! Thank you for bringing SS to the upper west! By far, the BEST burger in NYC and always worth the wait!!! Pros: Delicious, great service more

Bringing The SS Goodness To The UWS 11/28/2008

Does not disappoint. We were a little worried that it wouldn't live up to the expectations the original SS created, but burgers are just as good and the line isn't as painfully long (at least not yet...a little worried about once the line does get consistently long as we'll be waiting halfway down 77th Street). The space is great, and the employees are incredibly nice and accommodating. I was shocked to see negative reviews bashing the fact that employees actually explained menu options to customers and were ""slow"". Wow, some people have been abused by crappy NYC wait staff for too long! If you compare SS to McDonalds & other fast food joints, go to McDonalds! That's one fewer person I have to wait behind to get to my ridiculously delicious double cheeseburger and black and white shake! Thank you Shake Shack for opening up in our 'hood. I will be attempting to practice restraint and not go more than once a week! Pros: Burgers Are Among the Best in NYC, Location, Great Service Cons: Lines, Annoying customers who stand around in front of service window (you have a beeper, go sit down!) more

not worth the wait 11/14/2008

Overpriced, small portions, and too long of a wait. I live across the street from the Shake Shack and was curious after watching scores of people flock to this place. The burgers are nothing special, and the shake was one of the worst I've ever had. Don't waste your time by waiting in line. Pros: french fries Cons: long wait more

Purposely Slow to the Point Where it is Obvious 11/6/2008

I was delighted to hear about the opening of SS having been to MSP several times. The food is good but I'm appalled & disappointed by the very obvious ""slowness"" of those taking orders. I've been there 3 times and this last time, after reading comments about their slowness across websites, I timed the length of time the cashier took w/ the customers. SLOW! On average, they were taking 4-5 minutes w/ each customer & sometimes longer: casually chatting & providing long-winded explanations, This was something I've never seen before anywhere; it was ridiculous. There is no sign of hustle in there at all not even among the 15 people standing in the kitchen who were chatting while 10 people were waiting for their buzzers to ring. McDonalds & Burger King have timers on their registers while the Burger Joint cashiers are so fast that they cut you off when you order. There are Burger Joint signs to help guide you to order quickly & the cashiers strongly steer each customer in that direction taking no more than a minute with each person, AND still there are lines there. So, what would the lines be like if Burger Joint pulled what SS is pulling? Probably out through the hotel lobby & down the block. SS, your food is good enough. I strongly urge you to change your technique b/c people are resenting the slowness which is obviously put into place to ensure long lines to create hype. People are not stupid &, if they are, they'll quickly hear about it by reading reviews or by word of mouth b/c I can tell you people talk. There was a line out the door when I showed up. There were only 2 of 3 registers open with many staff members standing around doing nothing but distracting those who were attempting to work. Then, the worst part, was the 2nd cashier just walked away for 10-15 minutes while the sole cashier chatted with each customer for over 4 minutes &, sure enough, the line grew longer. I resent this deception & you are quickly ruining a very good thing. Pros: Good burgers and fries. Cons: Purposely slow beyond belief to create long lines. more

Frozen Custard? Don't think so! 10/23/2008

As an upper westsider, nothing is more welcome than a decent restaurant...especially one for the whole family. So, of course, we waited in great anticipation for Shack Shake to open in the hood. We stood in the line that over flowed onto Columbus Ave. in the chilly evening while my son kept saying, ""This better be worth it!"" Pros: Location, kid-friendly, french fries Cons: Line onto street, not enough registers, slow staff, not true frozen custard more
