The Scene Located in one of Pittsburgh's trendier neighborhoods, Shadyside Saloon's relaxed jeans and T-shirt environment might come as a surprise to the first-time visitor. And that's exactly what ower, Mike Pistella, had in mind when he opened the doors last September. "He wanted a neighborhood bar in Shadyside," says the Saloon's manager. "We just want people to be comfortable." The Crowd Shadyside Saloon plays host to a ton of regulars who all seem to know each other. On weekdays it's mostly couples and fratboys, so don't go in anticipation of the hook-up unless you like frat boys. But weekends find the small space packed, with students of the law and medical variety and young professionals. Across the Street The Saloon enjoys a rather symbiotic relationship with the adjacent Harris Grill. When it gets too crowded over there, patrons slip over to the smaller bar and then back and forth for the rest of the night. In fact, the Saloon, which does not serve food, keeps a copy of the Grill's menu on hand and invites patrons to order food from Harris's and bring it back to the Saloon to enjoy with a drink.
