Best

i took my pooch there for shots and exam, and the staff and doctor were awesome. I felt very cared for. Definitely my goto vets from now on

Worst

Took my pugs for shots--he gave rabies and DHPP together, which, I found out later, is not a good thing to do. My dogs had a reaction--they were coughing, sneezing and one threw ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/29/2012

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dr. Galea! He helped me so much when my two cats were each diagnosed with terminal ilnesses. Very compassionate and caring vet. I drive all the way from Van Nuys just to go to him, worth the trip! more

I took my little 7 year old dog into Sepulveda Animal Hospital for a routine check up and shots. more

Not a good experience - unnecessary tests. 10/13/2010

They step you up on price and take advantage of your concern for your animal. My cat was throwing up, but instead of starting on some medication to see how the animal did, they took exrays and then pushed for a pancreatits exam. Then, although his foot was hurt - they said wait and see. I go in for more x-rays and they give him a splint that is so huge he can't get around. But, hey - what about that Pancratitis exam? I get a second opinion who asks? ? Why such a big splint? I found out from another vet that he woudl have just given some meds and they waited to see about the diarrhea and vomiting. Worst part ! I wrote a private letter to complain and Dr. Galea sends me a nasty note ranting at me ""twisting the facts"" I was not rude in my letterI just told him my experience. If you look at some of the other reviews this is not the only example. I love the other vet I found who is professional and practical. more

Compassionate, realistic 2/2/2010

Drs. Galea and Torrisi just helped me through a most distressing illness with my young cat. The staff is wonderful as well. Wouldn't go anywhere else! Pros: really care about the pets and their people more

For stellar vet care, look no further 11/5/2009

These guys are the best. Seriously, look no further for a vet. We took our new puppy in for a check up 24 hours after purchasing her from a breeder, and had full labs run on her to make sure she was in good health. She was not. Long story short, our puppy got sick, then her condition worsened, and as new pet owners, we found ourselves calling or visiting the hospital multiple times a day--as a result, we met many of their vets and vet techs. Everyone there was just great--very patient with us, and very reassuring. After our pup started to recover, the owner of the hospital (Dr. Yves Galea) wrote a letter for us to the breeder (who had become unresponsive), helping us to get some reimbursement for the cost of treating our dog who came to us already sick. We didn't even ask him to do this, he just volunteered to because he felt badly about what we had been through. I knew they were good that first day when I first met with Dr. Winters for our first "routine" visit--he patiently a more

My Marta's Vet 5/20/2009

Dr. Galea had been Marta's vet when he was in the old place, down Sepulveda near the ice rink. Then he built the state-of-the-art facility on the corner of Culver and Sepulveda, and we followed right along. The waiting room is clean and airy, with built-in nooks so that you can keep your big dog from closely examining the kitty cat that just came in. The front-office staff and the hospital staff are all very kind to the animals and friendly to the humans. Dr. Galea is especially kind to his patients. Every time I bring her in, he spends more time with Marta than my own doctor does with me. One time, when the visit was finished and I had paid the bill, collected the medications and was walking to my car, Dr. Galea came running after me to tell me one more thing. Then when I got home, he called to make sure that I would start one of the medications right away. There are two other vets on staff there, and I've had to take Marta in to see them on urgent occasions when Dr. Galea was not avai more

Outstanding!!! The best vet I've encountered in L.A.! 1/12/2009

I came to Sepulveda Animal Hospital late in the afternoon on the day before Christmas, after a bad experience at another vet. When I walked in I had a good feeling about the place -- the waiting room has a warm yet professional feeling about it. \r \r My dog and I were put into an examining room and had to wait for a while. Then Dr. Galea came in and began to examine the dog. In the middle of the exam he was called out to see another dog. He was gone for fifteen minutes and I did start to get frustrated. But after he apologetically returned and I witnessed the quality of care he showed my dog, I realized that Dr. Galea is like Albert Schweitzer: completely devoted to his patients. If this makes for a delay I'll put up with it because I know that he would show the same solicitousness for my dog as he would for whatever emergency interrupted him.\r \r The bill was very reasonable for the care provided. But most impressive was the fact that since that visit Dr. Galea has called twice more

mixed feelings 12/11/2008

I just went to SAH after being referred by a friend. The facilities were very nice, clean and up-to-date. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the overall vibe was really good. My dog was examined by Dr. Torrisi who was kind and to-the-point. She was very thorough in the exam, did a good job of asking questions and explaining everything to me. At one point during the exam she suggested a ""rectal"" be done on my dog, so I agreed not realizing that this would be an extra $22. All she did was squeeze the @n@l glands. Even though I am glad she did the rectal exam, I would have like to have been alerted that there would be an additional cost. Personally, I think that if I'm already paying the $55 exam fee that the vet should just squeeze the glands without the extra $22. But I'm willing to overlook that. Pros: expertise, service, modern facility Cons: expensive more

The kindest Veterinary doctor that I've ever met 8/16/2008

I had been going to another vet, who's office either closed or moved (I don't remember). Somewhow I heard about Dr. Galea. I took my then 17 year old cat for an exam. A year later, that beautiful and sweet cat became ill and the time came to euthanize him. I was devastated to find that he was so ill, when I thought it was something that could easily be treated. more

Professional, Compassionate and Honest! 7/22/2008

We cannot thank Dr. Galea enough for helping us with our dog. Loui was diagnosed with a torn ligament and surgery was recommended for him straight away. Our regular veterinarian is not a surgeon so we took Loui to meet Dr. Galea and get a second opinion. more

The greatest 7/1/2008

Dr Galea, his wife and the staff of the sepulveda animal hospital are the BEST animal hospital there is. SO good, we would transport our puppy from Las vegas to Culver City to have his care. I love them. Pros: Happy, good at what they do. more

Can not say enough great things 5/12/2008

I can not say enough great things about the care that Dr. Galea provides at Sepulveda Animal Hospital. Upon moving to Los Angeles 2 years ago, we asked around for vet recommendations and Dr. Galea was highly recommended to us by a few different pet owners. Although we live clear across town in Pasadena, it was worth the drive because Dr. Galea goes above and beyond with his care. When our elderly dog developed health issues, Dr. Galea would provide us with additional research that he conducted outside of his normal business hours- and he always followed up with a personal phone call to see how our dog was doing. Our Great Dane lived a long, healthy life to age 14. When the dreaded time came when we had to put our dog to sleep, Dr. Galea made the process comfortable for our pet and counseled us during our grief. He eased what is an extremely difficult situation. It is obvious that Dr. Galea cares tremendously for each pet who enters his facility, as well as their owners. We are grateful for the wonderful care that Dr. Galea and his staff provided and highly recommend him. more

The Best Vet in Los Angeles! 5/6/2008

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Galea for 10 years. He has treated my 4 cats and 1 dog as though they were his own and I know they have received the very best care. Given how expensive most vet trips can be, I have always felt that my pets received outstanding treatment at a very reasonable price. I have recommended him to all of my friends and coworkers over the years, and they too have all been completely satisfied. I would never consider going to any other vet, my pets are all healthy and happy and they love their vet! Pros: Great facilities, very caring staff, convenient location more

Expensive, uncaring 2/6/2008

Took my pugs for shots--he gave rabies and DHPP together, which, I found out later, is not a good thing to do. My dogs had a reaction--they were coughing, sneezing and one threw up. I called the office with my concerns, and through his receptionist, Dr. Galea told me I 'could' make an appt and come in, but it wasn't the shots. I told the receptionist it WAS the shots--they were fine beforehand and they BOTH had these symptoms. I spent over $200 for two examinations and the shots, and I found it extremely unprofessional and uncaring when they told me I could make an appointment and they could check them out, at my expense of course. I would not recommend this clinic. more

The BEST care for your pet 11/20/2007

Dr. Galea is a SUPERB veterinarian. His training includes residency at UC Davis (one of the best programs in the nation) and his new clinic is a huge state of the art animal medicine and surgical facility (they even have an animal sonogram and indoor dog run!). True, if you're looking for cheap, uncaring care that you're never sure of, Dr. Galea is the WRONG guy to see. If you want the best care for your pet, from a caring, professional staff, and want to be sure that your pet is getting the proper diagnosis, then Dr. Galea is the RIGHT vet to see. I have brought seven pets over the course of 10+ years to Dr. Galea for maladies including everything from fleas to stroke. He always provided me with the best course of treatment, and if I EVER mentioned anything about price, he'd always work with me on alternative treatments. He also referred me out when my pet required a very specific procedure. All in all, you can rest easy with your pet in Dr. Galea's care. Highly recommend, A++++. Pros: Training, Professionalism, Staff, Care, Facility more

A Fine, Caring Professional 7/12/2007

I have been a client of Dr. Galea for over a decade. He performed successful back surgery on my dog at an extremely low cost, and demonstrated great compassion for his suffering prior to surgery. He has always engaged in as much detail about my pets' health issues as I ask for, and regularly consults with other top vets when he believes a particular diagnosis or treatment regimen requires more input. He calls me back when I have questions, and also makes follow up calls if the treatment is for anything that is non-routine. Dr. Galea is also very honest about his fees -- he has told me that I'm better off going to vaccination clinics than having them done in his office. His charges tend to be significantly lower than other vets on the Westside. Much of his office staff has been with him for years -- they are friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable. Pros: Excellent In Depth Care, Personal Attention Cons: Waits can be long on weekends more

Dr. Yves Galea and Staff 4/9/2007

Dr. Galea and his staff are the ultimate in caring, professionalism and expertise. They have love for animals and it shows in every phase of your pet's care. I live in Altadena and I'm sure there are wonderful vets in my area, but when you find a staff that you trust, Sepulveda Animal Hospital is worth the drive every time. more

Non typical experience 1/23/2007

Dr. Galea and unneccesary tests: Pros: deeply caring and a good communicator Cons: sometimes a little rushed with too many things going on at once more

Find another Vet 12/11/2006

I used this vet for a couple of years. He seemed to recommend tests and other things that were costly & never achieved any results. After taking my dog to another Vet we found a medication that was far less costly and her helth improved dramatically. I had recommened him to a few other people who all used him once then called me & had similar complaints. I think he needs to make up for the cost of his fancy new building. He did surgery on my friend's bulldog to help with the breathing problems he was having and the breathing actually got worse. Another vet gave her an anti-imflammitory and the problem has improved 1000%. Lastly, he is rude. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but, like I said in the title... Find another vet! Pros: Very nice new office Cons: You will pay for it with un-necessary tests more
