I want to praise hair stylist Alyssa who has been my stylist for almost three years. Not only is she an exquisite artist at her craft. No matter how busy she is, she is always courteous and professional. She takes the time to give me the best haircut and to make me feel like a valued client. It is because of Alyssa that I continue to go to Scott J and encourage others to do so as well. As a result, two of my Barnard-Columbia colleagues have gone to Alyssa for haircuts and they too were thoroughly satisfied. Alyssa should be praised for her hard work and efforts. She has exhibited, and I suspect she does this on a daily basis, the highest level of professionalism, courtesy and kindness. Thank you for hiring such an exemplary professional! My daughter and I just had our hair cut for the second time by Andrew--he's fantastic, and we're totally pleased with our haircuts! Everyone here is polite, thoughtful and professional. So glad we discovered this salon. more

I don't get that negative review-are we talking about the same place? I never had a bad haircut, color,highlights,Blow-dry,or makeup application at Scott J Columbus! & All the people that work there are amazingly talented, warm & welcoming! Maybe she went through the wrong door??? more

I have gone to this salon 3 times now and will continue to go back. The people are super nice, I have not had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment, and Carmen gave me one of the best haircuts I have had in years! I highly recommend her as a stylist. And of course, the Aveda products are great. more

Jay was my stylist was very nice and seemed to really know what he was doing. He cut my hair dry but didn't wash it or blow-dry it before and my hair has a slight natural wave in it so it wasn't totally straight when cut. The layers are choppy and a little uneven and the cut wasn't horrible but also not what I am used to for a 43$ haircut. probably won't go back more

Belle gets 5 stars from me and my daughter. My 13 y.o. daughter has very wavy, thick hair and Belle gave her a great cut. I later requested Belle who gave me a cut for my straighter hair that looked great and grew in nicely. Now, I am sending my other daughter. 4 stars for the salon being a bit small and I agree with the woman who pays for all the haircuts but couldn't use her son's coupon. THAT's annoying. But, Belle is great! more

I have been getting my hair colored by Michelle for two years and every single time she makes sure that it comes out right, is evenly colored and that there is no staining on my forehead. She listens to me and makes great suggestions. I really look forward to going to see her. more

Jay is extremely professional......always courteous, on time, well groomed and attractive and pleasant. Of course, he is a great hair stylist and knows what type of hair cut is suitable. He is very reliable for all of the above mentioned reasons. Thank you Jay!!!!!!!!! more

I have come to Scott J in Washington Heights several times and have always loved it. I rave to everyone and would normally give it five stars. Yesterday, I was not as happy. I visited with my 11 year old daughter and Melissa gave her a BEAUTIFUL haircut - exactly what she wanted - and made her feel like a Princess (my tomboy!) on her first trip to a salon. Five stars to Melissa! The whole experience for us both was what I had come to expect - excellent service, kind staff, shampoos fantastic. However, I left with a beautiful haircut that was not what I asked for. Denise did not seem to understand me and what I was asking for. I felt like she was trying, but not really able listen. She seemed to be steering me to what she wanted rather than what I wanted. I have been to several stylists there and never left feeling this way. I am hesitant to say anything, because it is probably as much my fault as hers. Throughout our discussion about what I wanted I felt like she wasn't understanding me but ultimately I decided to trust her instincts. Again - it is a BEAUTIFUL cut - very well done and is getting lots of compliments. It just isn't really what I wanted. Lesson learned - I need to be more clear and stand up for what I want, I suppose. more

My hairdresser is Andrew, and he really takes the time to give me a dynamite haircut and color. His assistants are also wonderful. It's a pleasure to come to Aveda and know that it will be a great experience. more

the place was busy but the service was kind and professional, as usual. another great haircut by Krystle--only the second person in the last 20 years to give me a good haircut. don't change a thing! more

I've gone twice now to Carmen for my highlights, not only does she save me money by doing less highlights, they look great. I'd recommend Scott J Aveda for color treatments. more
