Normally I like to shop locally, but the Scituate Music Center’s owner is very very rude. He tried to dictate the type of guitar my son should learn on. My wife and son came home with an electric guitar and I wanted him to have an acoustic. I ask my wife to exchange it and the owner, Mr. McMorrow refused to exchange it. He told my wife that I would have to go to the store and explain to him why I wanted it exchanged. \r I had to leave my yard work to deal with this. \r I went to the store. Determined to be polite I went into the Scituate Music Center and asked Mr. McMorrow to return our funds. I explained that I was not interested in an argument but he was determined to get one out of me. I stood there for 10 minutes just asking, “ May I have my money back please.” He insulted me several times but I stuck to my mantra, “May I have my money back please.” He tried to offer an exchange for the acoustic but I explained that I was not longer interested. \r He tried giving me just my money back for the guitar and not the electric tuner but I explained that this was an all or nothing arrangement. It took the threat of small claims court to convince him of my resolve. Even walking out the door he hurled two more insults. I like to support local business but I will not be supporting this one.\r more

Great store, knowledgeable owner 8/2/2011

I visited Scituate Music Co. for the first time a couple of weeks ago along with a couple of other music stores in the South Shore area. Being from Florida I didn't know what to expect since all we have is Guitar Center and George's Music. Both are okay and I'm friends with people who work both places but they don't know too much about what they stock. I usually know more and tell them about what they're selling. Gerry knows more about guitars and equipment than ANYONE I've ever talked to in a store and I've been playing since 1967. He was somewhat direct and a little curt in the way he talked but I wasn't offended (I'm 57 and grew up in N.J.). His selection was amazing and he knew about everything I asked about. I was also impressed with his prices. A Tele that's selling for $1100 other places for only $900. I bought a Gretsch two weeks before I went to Mass. or I would've walked out with that baby. The other stores I visited were okay and the employees friendly but they didn't have the selection or the prices or the knowledge that Gerry has. Just don't go in with an attitude and accept the fact that he's an expert and like all experts, he's very opinionated. It doesn't mean you have to agree with him. I would have given him 5 stars except there's not enough room for the merchandise. But I'm buying my next guitar from him. more
