Good food..something weird 10/20/2007

The food was very good, although the variety is limited. But I place quality above variety anyway. This is definitely a mom and pop joint. But the Pop said something sexist as we were leaving after lunch. As my wife prepared to pay (which he seemed to think was odd), me being the man and all, he smirked and said to her "He will do the cooking tonight, heh, heh". When I challenged him on what he meant by that, he said "Oh, because the food that you ate now won't last till dinner, you know". What a backtrack! As if it took a genius to figure out that lunch doesn't imply you will never feel hungry again. The point of course, is why did he have to say it was me in particular who will do the cooking. I get it. In a family where a woman pays (the man's role, the man is so unmasculine, he might as well be cooking (the woman's role). Just so you know, Sir, I am the one cooking dinner tonight, just like you predicted. more

The prices are reasonable so there is no excuse for not dining in this restaurant. If you are lucky, you may even run into Queen Latifa who is a regular! more

Awesome Indian place 8/8/2005

Talk about variety!! They are a strictly vegetarian (even Jain and Swaminarayan choices) Indian restaurant. The menu offers a wide variety: North Indian, Gujarati (and how many Indian restaurants do that!?), South Indian, snacks, and sweets choices. The Sambhar (South Indian lentil soup) is to die for! and the Frankie's and Dabeli's make you feel like you're in Mumbai somewhere, standing on the side of the road in the rain, enjoying the best of the city's "street cuisine". My husband is addicted to the Pau Bhaji and keeps bugging me get the recipe and learn it. As if! There's also a really wide variety of sweets and snacks. Owned by a sweet couple, the foods always consistent and the prices reasonable. Maybe that's why the decor is so casual; it's like home. On a street with dozens of casual food choices, this one stands out for taste! If you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, ask the owner to help you choose. ps: Cannot smoke or bring your own beer/wine. more
