Sushi so good you start to crave it!!!!! 4/16/2007

Sit at the expanded sushi bar (try lunchtime- not so crowded) and get ready for an amazing experience- from the starter of albacore sashimi to the ending of a blue crab handroll, each piece of sushi is better than the next. I am so addicted I end up going almost weekly. Not cheap, but a great value as the quality is unmatched in the area.\r \r No menu, so this is not really sushi for beginners, but if you love sushi, you MUST try this place. Pros: The sushi is so amazingly delicious!!! Cons: could use a bit more work on the decor more

Overall great experience 2/28/2007

I ate at Sasabune last night... I would have to agree with all of the reviews and give it one of my highest ratings for a sushi restaurant (the fish is of very high quality). I really enjoyed the experience here. You walk in, order a drink if you like, tell the waitress what you don't like and then you just sit, relax and enjoy. They started last night with albacore in a soy/wasabe plate and then the sushi came on small plates with two pieces each time; you consistently wait the same amount of time between each dish. The waitress politely tells you what pieces you should eat with soy and which ones not. The evening ended with one of the best rolls I've ever enjoyed, it was a fresh crab roll, very plain, but so savory. In a 'joking' matter, when I was paying the bill, I was able to think of the experience I had while still tasting that roll! I would go here on a weekend night even though there's little decor and being so far out of the way for me. It's $65/person. Pros: Food Cons: No background music more

Best Sushi in New York 1/17/2007

I cannot stand sushi and I absolutely love this place. It only took my friend who raved about the one in L.A. a month of convincing to get me to go and it was so worth the trip..granted I live across the street but if I lived anywhere else I would travel just to go here. I have never tasted fish so fresh in my entire life!! Just to give you an idea they close the restaurant if the fish market is closed. Having said that....call to make sure they are open. Thank you Sasabune for making me love sushi....but only yours :-) more

Best Sushi I've Ever Had 1/12/2007

With the most no frills sushi experience in NYC, what Sasabune lacks in decor it makes up for in fantastic sushi. Fresh, complex, rare, and expertly crafted and paced, this eating experience is out of this world. Easily the best sushi I've ever eaten in the whole country. You'll drop a significant percentage of your weekly paycheck, but it's totally worth it. You'll leave with a very happy stomach. Pros: Exquisite Food Cons: Unromantic Space more

best sushi! 11/29/2006

I was blown away by the freshness of sushi at sasabune. Its what sushi should be like. Try it all its wonderful(i prefer it better than nobu or sushi samba's sushi - it just doesn't compare) Pros: excellent food Cons: can be pricey more

The only sushi. 11/20/2006

This is by far the best sushi anywhere. Incredible omakase with the freshest fish possible. The flavors are perfect as are the chef made speciality sauces. Thank the food gods that Kenji moved to NYC. more

Best sushi I have ever had anywhere 11/17/2006

The combination of incredibly fresh sushi, warm rice and the occasional of some subtle sauces and flavors makes for wonderful dining. It's all omakase (chef's choice) although they'll customize the offerings to avoid or include certain favorites on request. The decor is not special and unimportant. Go for the food. Pros: Incredible food Cons: Ambience more

My favorite place! 12/2/2004

The fish here is so fresh and the quality of the preparation is really wonderful. The place is very small and sometimes the service is not very prompt, but they certainly make up for it with friendliness. The staff seems genuinely enthusiastic about the food they are serving. Pros: fantastic food, fresh sushi, friendly staff Cons: , tiny quarters more

Why Y's?? 6/21/2004

Because Y's is AMAZING. The seafood is incredibly fresh. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is serene and pleasant. Both the sushi chef and head chef demonstrate their artistic skill and food preparation prowess in each and every dish. We are regulars, and over and over again the fare is consistent, innovative, and delicious. The quality of your meal will equal its price. Choose to eat here and you will never be disappointed. Pros: fresh sushi, excellent value, wonderful service more

Great Sushi; Great Price 4/29/2004

Great Sushi for a great price- The Sushi deluxe includes fish that you don't typically find in platters. All dishes are fresh and well presented. Appetizers are creativity assembled. The maki is delicious because of the abundant amount of toasted black sesame. Desserts are great- Green Tea ice cream actually tastes like green tea. Staff is courteous and attentive. Overall a great dining experience. We are becoming regulars! Pros: fresh, creative, value more

So fresh 1/15/2004

My friends and I enjoyed an amazing dinner here the other night. The fish was the freshest I have had in a long time. We had no idea such a gem was in the neighborhood. Pros: High Quality Food Cons: Small Dining Room more

OSHII!!!! 10/13/2003

The food is excellent, great quality and quantity. The service is very friendly but a bit slow. However, they make up for it in complimentary sake and appetizers. A must eat at restaurant if you like Yasuda and Sushi Den. Pros: Quality, Quantity, Reasonable Price Cons: A bit slow, Upper East Side more

Good find of a small sushi place. 9/20/2003

Hiden on the side of first avenue at 73rd St, this small delightful Japanese restaurant is a surprise find! We visited at least ten times from New Jersey and value is consistently there. Run by an owner of a major fish wholesaler, this place has all the fresh ingridients needed, including ""toro"", fatty tuna often hard to find in a smaller restaurant. Good friendly atomosphere and cozy ambiance makes it such a delight to be. The food and presentation is well balanced with the price. The restaurant has consistently given us the over-all worth for the money. Pros: Taste, Inovative, Presentation Cons: Hard to find, Limited seats (30+), A little slow more

Great quality sushi!! 9/19/2003

The appetizers are always innovative. The dishes are exceptionally prepared and presenation is wonderful. A great place to eat sushi on the upper eastside. Pros: Sushi, Sake more
