This is by far THE WORST customer service that I have ever encountered. It is bordering on CRIMINAL behavior. Before the change in ownership, I went in to cancel my membership within the 30 days of my next monthly charge per my contract. When I asked for a copy, the employee told me that their copier was down and that she would mail me a copy. A week and a half later when I didn't get a copy I called and asked who I can speak to, the employee said he didn't know but that I could leave a message for the billing person. Fast forward three weeks and they billed my credit card. I called again but the billing person was on vacation but I could talk to the GM....another message left. No reply. Fast forward 2 months...8 phone calls...3 trips to the gym in person....same response. ""The person who can help you isn't here."" ""I don't know their schedule so I don't know when they will be in.""\r Still no response. So, I got my bank, thank you CHASE, to put a stop payment on their auto withdraw and change my cc. But THEIR OFF SITE BILLING DEPARTMENT CALLS AND THREATENS ME. Athletic Club....you are a sad excuse for a gym. You need to go back to being a car dealership with a Bob's Big Boy attached and stop harassing people who are trying to do the right thing. SHAME ON YOU! more

I would not recommend this gym. They also filed for bankruptcy last year. This is what happened to me. \r \r I was a member for 3 years at Athletic Club. I ended up quitting due to very unprofessional and unethical business practice of this club. 2 out of 3 years which I was a member, they overcharged double fee by automatic bank withdraw. I checked my bank statement several times during my first year, but I did not pay attention to it after a while which was my big mistake. Well, that could happen to anybody.\r \r Unethical part of their business practice is that after I notified club about overcharging, they never returned a single telephone call. I even visited their office during business hours and was refused to meet with any accounting or management staff. They were there, but did not want to talk with me or face my complaint. Needless to say that I never recovered my money from them. \r \r Surprisingly this happened to several other club members whom I was taking the same classes with. None of them recovered their money directly from them or received any feedback from accountng dept and the management. The front desk people are nice, but most of them are part time college students who were kept outside any real business practice of gym.\r \r Please check their Better Business Bureau rating which last time I checked showed F. Also, please be aware that they filed BANKRUPTCY last year. All the instructors are very nice and great! but I decided to go somewhere else. \r \r If you decide to join this club, I strongly suggest to check your bank statement every month. more

Greatest Club I know! 12/31/2010

I have been a member of this gym for 10 years and is still a active member of this facility. Powerhouse was one of the worst experiences that I did have but since Santa Clarita Athletic Club came back and took over there has been a better vibe within the gym. Everything is much better in ways of classes, cleanliness, and overall staff helpfulness. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't this good. It is a place to workout and meet friends. I recommend this place to all my friends. Great place to workout! more

Worst Gym...EVER!!! 8/5/2008

I have been a member of various gyms since I was in High School. Powerhouse in Santa Clarita has been the worst experience I have ever had! The spinning bikes were faulty for the first 5 months of my membership. On multiple occasions, myself, others, and instructors came un-clipped during the class and nearly fell off of the bikes.\r \r Recently, my husband and I, had to cancel our membership (due to moving to attend graduate school). There are no Powerhouses in the area we now live in, yet we were charged an early cancellation fee of $150 per person, had to pay the last month's fee on top of that, AND received a charge for a ""yearly enhancement fee."" All of this despite the fact we 1. had not been there for a full year and 2. we just canceled our contract. Additionally, when I inquired about the additional charge, the staff manager told me the charge was not from Powerhouse. However, once I called the following week someone else told me it was. I am still awaiting a response from the general manager regarding this 'extra' fee. Until then, the membership cost us $60 a month (reasonable), but the cancellation cost $390!!!!\r \r Please save yourself the misery and find another gym. Yes, the instructors are wonderful (except one that uses class time to conduct an 'infomercial' for her detox products), but the equipment is a liability waiting to happen, the staff is un-knowledgeable, and frankly...the place is a SCAM. Pros: Great Spinning Instructors Cons: Everything Else more

Horrible GM at Canyon Country who lacks customer service skills 6/15/2008

With the new general manager in place at the Canyon Country location, I wouldn't consider re-joinining this gym unless they come to the conclusion that he's bad for their business. He was extremely rude and pompous. He also seems to be very deficient in Customer Service skills and his ""aggressive"" and arrogant attitude towards clients is not conducive to good business. When the owners wise up and fire this guy, I may consider coming back as a member.\r \r more

poor management 10/24/2006

I've been a member of this gym for several years. However now that my contract is up, I have decided to cancel because they are always rescheduling and canceling classes regardless of the classes popularity. I would not recommend this gym unless you don't mind paying high prices to work independantly on weight machines. more
