The mains are great on their own, but just go and share a few (3 or 4) of the small sandwiches and cap it off with espresso and cookies. Or just go for the espresso and cookies d...

We made reservations at the upper east side location for an early dinner and were seated promptly, but had to wait for a very long time for menus, both at the beginning of the mea...

great brunch, outside seating! 2/13/2007

first...location, location, location! prime..? the most quaint corner of the city. The menu is a bit pricey, last time I just had risotto and perhaps not worth it. However, the atmosphere is classic italian/european, it is clean, and the staff is super friendly. Definitely better for brunch more

Milan Café in the middle of Manhattan 5/3/2005

This Milanese style espresso bar serves the best café and gelato in town, plus there are fresh pastries, amazing breakfast, plus lunch and dinner all in one! I visited the original location on Madison as a recommendation from an Italian colleague and was so bummed when the location closed (to reopen as Fauchon). I was so thankful that in 2004 they reopened in Greenwich Village. The menu is 100% authentic. During the day you will find ladies who lunch while you savor your food, watch the beautiful people and appreciate one of the best neighborhoods. Unfortunately, the Upper East Side prices have not changed. Breakfast is the best time to enjoy the atmosphere if you are on a budget because you can linger at the bar over espresso or a cappuccino. Lunch and dinner is a bit more expensive but great. The patio is perfection in the summer time. more

Owner Message
  • Sant Ambroeus, a Milanese style Gelateria-Confetteria-Pasticceria-Paninoteca-Bar-Ristorante, is a true neighborhood meeting place in the old tradition, offering the highest quality food, service, company and conversation through the truly contemporary idea of a "one stop" restaurant combining several normally stand-alone food operations.

Come visit our espresso/cappuccino bar with its addictive cornetti (Italian croissants), or our award winning gelato at its own counter. Enjoy our baked-on-premises cakes and cookies or sit down and sample some genuine light northern Milanese cuisine of longtime San Ambroeus executive chef Mario Danieli.

A panini (sandwich) bar has also been added to the restaurant, in addition to a gastronomo (sandwich maker) for our busy customers who are looking for gourmet made-to-order sandwiches at the bar as well as in the restaurant.
