Sanctuary Hair Studio Review! 9/27/2011

It started with bad haircut after haircut, then trips to Newbury Street in Boston for overpriced, conceited stylists. Frustrated, a search on Google found the ""best hair stylist in NH"", Ralph Martinese. I first went to him when the salon was in Rye and have followed him to North Hampton. When you walk into his salon he welcomes you in like a long lost friend. The atmosphere is classy and light hearted, with talented co-workers, a friendly dog and if you're lucky you get to meet one of his children. As a person he's healthy, inspirational and kind, as a business owner and stylist he is professional and extremely gifted. I will never go anywhere else - he always listens to what you want and creates a style tailored specifically for you. You get to learn about the latest and best products for your hair, get pampered and possibly even serenaded (tehe)! It's really wonderful every time I visit and my family loves going now too! Ralph continues to outdo himself with each visit. It's a 5 star experience with reasonable pricing, an amazing value! Having a gorgeous hairstyle that's perfect - IS the best thing EVER! As for that negative review, there's always going to be one miserable person... Before you make a decision try it for yourself and you'll know what's right. Rock it Ralph!!! more

Sanctuary Hair Studio in Hamtpon NH 6/24/2010

I abosolutely love Ralph and would never consider changing stylists. I have been going to Ralph for at least a few years now and have never not been completely satisfied with my results. Most importantly, he did my hair for my wedding and I have never received so many compliments in my life. I think I actually got more compliments on my hair than on my dress! The dramatic, hollywood style he created for me was sexier than I could have picutred in my head. Thank you Ralph!!!! :) Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Great hairstylist 5/4/2010

I couldn't disagree more with the negative review I just read. I have been going to Ralph for probably at least five years now, first when he was in downtown Portsmouth as Sanctuary, and then when he moved to Rye and then Hampton. I followed him because he is so good. And I have had many hairdressers on Newbury Street in Boston over the years, so I know the good and the bad of high-end styling (even having been styled for several photo shoots). Ralph is wonderful. He knows how to work with my curly hair. He blows my hair dry straight for fun, for no additional charge! Several Boston stylists used to charge me an extra $25 just for that. He is funny and we have fun whenever I see him. I am sad that he is no longer in downtown Portsmouth, and is farther away for me now, but when you find a great hairdresser, you stick with them. Bad experience 1/4/2010

Please let me be clear. I am talking about the Santuary on Lafayatte Road, not Samba on State Street. The owner of this salon THINKS he's really good. He's very high on himself, and loves talking about himself and talking about how great he is and all the wonderful hair experiece he has had, name dropping and all. He destroyed my hair. I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed the very next day. I could not believe how horribly he cut my hair, and I also could not believe he made me sit there (after he started me) while he cut someone else's bangs! Then while my color sat, he started a guy's cut, and then made HIM sit while he finished ME! It was all so crazy. While I am in a stylist's chair, I expect to be the center of attention from start to finish. His distractions caused him to cut my hair very erratically, and it was just a horrible experience. wrong information in regards to the above review 8/13/2008

I am a returning client of samba salon and in regards to the above statement about the stylists coming in late and the owner having ""double standards"" is rediculous! Yeah sometimes a bridge goes up or one gets stuck in saturday traffic...for what 5 minutes? Like you haven't been late once. The owner seems easy going with her entire staff which makes for a comfortable yet fun time while getting my hair done. As for the other comment about the stylist ""hooking up""......I recall an EXACTconversation A CLIENT next to me was having with her stylist. Maybe you got mixed up???? Whatever anyways?! What are you a nun???? Maybe you need a good ""hookup""! Was it really worth you complaining about? Find a new hobby....These stylists ROCK!!! You'll have a good time and leave looking and feeling GREAT! 'Til next appt.......have the Mimosas ready!!!! Pros: energy, ambiance, great color/cuts more

Sanctuary has moved to 135 Lafayette Rd, in Rye and is still great! Samba on the other hand... 4/23/2008

Sanctuary Hair Studio moved last year to a new upscale salon/day spa at 135 Lafayette Road in Rye. So any complaints/reviews after Sept. 2007 are actually for Samba Salon which took over the location. more

Unprofessional 2/25/2008

The people that work at this salon are COMPLETELY unprofessional. I had an appointment in the morning , every stylist (including my own) was late. So, I sat there while two people completely bashed the owner about how she has ""double standards"". My stylist finally arrived...telling everyone how hungover she was...how she ""hooked up"" with a hot guy...and did not have a chance to go home and shower/change. It is too bad because the haircut was decent, but I would never return to a place that was so unprofessional. I am not easy to offend, but on a Saturday morning when you have plans to get your hair done you want to relax and enjoy the experience...which I did not, to say the least. more

Love your hair 2/13/2008

Samba Salon rocks (formerly Hair sanctuary). Maura is awesome. Its been a long time since ""I could say love my hair"" I took a leap of faith and had Maura use her new Hair Straightening system. The results are awesome. 2 weeks later and I am so glad I took the leap of faith- check it out- you won't be dissapointed!! Pros: Ambiance and service are awesome Cons: park in the parking garage- not so bad more

Worst experience of my life!!!!! DONT EVER GET YOUR HAIR DONE HERE YOU WILL BE SORRY!!!!! 3/26/2007

I went in to get my hair done and the woman who had already started cutting and coloring my hair started crying and telling me about how she just found out her friend died. I felt really bad for her, but I wish she had told me before she started hacking my hair to shreds and making my hair color look like a zebra, she should have rescheduled or had someone else do it. When I went to the owner he said he would fix it. He made me sit and wait for 3 hours and then he put 2 foils in my hair and made it worse. Then he was laughing at me. I couldn?t believe it! Then someone there finally tried to fix it and did what they could to get me through until I could set up an appointment to get my hair fixed again somewhere else. This place was terrible and I hope you never go here they will ruin your hair!!!! Pros: There was nothing good about my experience here Cons: This place was so bad, I wouldnt put a thumb up or down... they might either cut it off, or laugh at it. I dont know what is worse... more

the best wedding updo's ever! 2/5/2007

I was referred to Maura and Christi @ Sanctuary Hair Studio by The Wentworth By the Sea this past summer. My wedding party and I had such a wonderful experience on such a chaotic morning. The receptionist was welcoming, the stylists were ready for us and happy to make some great suggestions. I suggest going in with a few pictures and open mind. These women know what they are doing and are true artists at their professions. The two stylists I was referred to are obviously very close and work well together. They had us all laughing and relaxing. The rest of the talented staff were all very friendly and happy to help when we had one more person decide at the last minute she wanted an updo, too. \r I just wish I had realized they did extentions as well. I saw a couple girls who had them and they were amazing! You'd never know it wasn't their real hair. The colors were perfectly matched including the highlights.... Love it here! 4/5/2004

I have been going to Sanctuary Hair Studio for four years now. I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am with the service I recieve when I'm there, and the STYLE I take with me when I leave! I had never had a sylist really work with my face and give me a style that actually works, until I came here. Thank god I found Ralph and Amy, they work wonders!
