The primary outreach that I am familiar with from this organization is a project called Operation Christmas Child. With this project, you simply fill a shoe box with a few toys and basic hygiene needs and maybe even a picture of you or your children with a letter to the child from your child. I have heard of people getting letters back in response.
The hope and good will that this gives to those who receive these simple acts of kindness is hard to explain.
National Collection Week begins on 11/13/2006.
Their web site also explains, more detail, this project as well as all their outreach programs.
From their web site http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ :

Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ."
