very Poor 2/24/2012

Went to this salt grass last night, First off, the time before, I purchased a priority club member card, the waiter said one of the advantages is that you will be seated first before others, the first time I used it, they did so, well that was great, Last night the rules changed, they told us first available, Well we got seated 5 minutes after the last group, this was after a 25 minute wait, we get to the table at 7:30, we receive our food at 8.50! an hour and twenty minutes later. at that time the waitress came and said it was because of lint and all of the cooks were cooking fish and the meal was free, I thought ok, nice for waiting for so long, then my steak was well done instead of medium, I had asked for ketchup for my onion rings, never got it, I has asked her to refill our drinks, never did not even once. So I left all of my onion rings, ate about 1/4 or my steak as my wife, so the waitress sees we are not eating and asked if the meal was ok, I told her everything, she just said, I'll get your bill and be your cashier, I said, you told us the meal was free and besides, we didnt even eat much due to the steak being well done, no drinks ect. she just said, well I said I was sorry it took so long. I just told her to bring the dam bill...Never will go back. I told my wife we should of went to whataburger!!!! more

A really good meal at this restaurant 4/26/2011

We stopped by for a meal late Monday afternoon. The service was terrific and efficient! Our food was delicious and well-presented. The salads were brought quickly and so good I ate it all. The bread was good. DH's porterhouse meal was really good, so he ate it all. And my redfish with green beans and baked potato was very good. The only thing I would have wished for was for a little bit more of that good sauce over the fish...nice dinner! It was worth the money. Wish more restaurants were like this. Can't wait until the one on Bandera & 1604 opens! more

Very good experience 6/1/2010

My wife, daughter-in-law and myself recently had a great experience at the riverwalk Saltgrass. We had the special: filet, asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes and broiled prawns. Everything was cooked perfectly and was flavorful. The filet was very tender and lean; nothing to trim. The server was excellent; informative and attentive. The pecan pie was the best I have ever had and my wife's strawberry cheescake was just as good so...save room for dessert!! Pros: great food, great margaritas, great desserts, great service more

VERY poor food quality 12/2/2009

Here is the comment I left on the Saltgrass comments site. I was very disappointed with the food but the service was very good.\r \r Not Happy … I was looking for the best steak house in San Antonio for my family and your restaurant was recommended by some locals. I was VERY disappointed by the food quality. One of our baked potatoes was very much overcooked and was brown inside, all of our steaks were cool to cold and the garlic butter (which we were all looking forward to) didn’t even melt on the steak throughout our partial meal. Not one of us finished our meal and left very unsatisfied and although your setting is very nice, the staff was friendly and my waiter was fantastic I would not return to spend half that much money. I’ve never been one to give negative feedback or look for a free meal that’s why I decided to provide some feedback so this can be looked into for future patrons. I’m sorry for the negative comments but I thought you should know. Pros: Service Cons: VERY poor food quality for the price more

Great steakhouse with quality food and service. 3/3/2009

the saltgrass at I-10 and huebner is fantastic. If you go during the busy hours you'll have to wait for just a bit but the service and food is worth it. They serve wonderful certified angus beef and their appetizers are wonderful. The waitstaff is always very friendly and quick to get anything you need. I highly encourage anyone that hasn't been here to go check it out. more

Almost always a wait...for a reason! 11/1/2008

The bread, salads, steaks, shrimp, baked potatoes, even the ice tea are awesome. No, its not cheap, but you get a lot of food. Steaks have been perfectly seasoned, wait staff very professional. Good restaurant management...we've been probably 10+ times to this location and not a single complaint. The chicken/shrimp appetizer that comes wrapped in bacon and served with BBQ sauce and onion strings are unbelievable. My wife could make a meal out of that alone (and has). Pros: Everything a steakhouse should be... Cons: Get there early on weekend nights or you will wait. more

Bad Food, Bad Service 1/30/2008

The Saltgrass at Huebner Oaks is horrible. My date and I arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday. We were seated within 15 minutes of arriving (good), but had to wait 15 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order. My lemonade arrived on the table within 5 minutes, but my date's drink and the waters didn't show up for another 15 minutes. Another 10 minutes go by. Finally, our waitress took our entire order (appetizer and meal). We wait for at least a half an hour. When she does come back to our table, she has the complementary bread (which is suppose to be brought out with the drinks), the appetizers, and our dinner salads. Umm, ok. All of these things are suppose to be brought out at different times, but i guess since we have been there for an hour, she figured we were hungry. !?!? Even though we were very hungry, everything tasted bland. The bread was not warm and not very good. The busboy took my date's bread plate and the waitress took my bread plate, even though we were still picking at the bread. The appetizer (fried mushrooms) were ok. The dinner salad was made out of iceberg lettuce. The entire time we were sitting there, the couple at the next table was complaining about how long it took to get their drink order in, and then how long it was taking the food to arrive. When they did get thier food, it was not the food that they ordered. Note: they had a different waitor, so it must be a problem with the management. The steaks, which cost around $20, were bland and not worth the money. The only flavor on my steak was the blob of butter on the top. The mashed potatoes were runny. Bad service, bad food. The bill for 2 dinners (without extras) and an appetizer, no alcoholic drinks, was over $60. That is too much money for bad service and food that I would compare to any lower-end chain restaurant.. At least my company was good. Pros: location Cons: small portions, price, service, flavor of food more

Great food 7/24/2007

The mushrooms with ranch are wonderful. the potato soup is delicous. The food no matter what you eat will have you coming back for more. Pros: The mushrooms are the best Cons: the wait is long, mostly when there's so many empty tables. more

best mid-priced steak restaurant anywhere 11/14/2006

I don't know if I can think of another mid-priced steak restaurant that is better than Saltgrass. The steaks are so full of flavor and juicy; they are just very consistent. It can get a bit crowded especially on Friday or Saturday night, but you can really say that about most restaurants. You may be able to find a better steak at Morton's or Ruth's Chris, but you will also pay a lot more for it. Pros: steak Cons: can get crowded more

Excellent Steak 9/22/2006

Although it is a chain restaurant the steak was excellent. The rib eye was cooked as ordered and seasoned perfectly and topped with garlic butter. The salad was fresh with tasty dressing. The sides (vegetables and romano potatoes in our case) were both very good as was the bread brought to you before the meal. We enjoyed a couple of beers as it was happy hour (3-7) and they were inexpensive and good and cold. If you're looking for a good steak, visit the Saltgrass. Pros: Tasty steak more

Awesome Food 7/16/2006

My son was a graduate of Lackland Air force base and we were there for his graduation. Ask several of the local Airforce long time Sargents where do you go for your family for a good steak and out of 5 we ask all 5 said Saltgrass Steak House for price and good food. So we went there on my son's first outing after becoming a Airman for Lunch. We got Excellent service and the food was outstanding. Each steak was prepared to perfection. Very tender and the best cuts off the cow. We came in and our son was in his airman blues and right away the hotess gave him a very pround thank you for serving our country. Then with in a very short time we were seated. As we were seated the busboy was setting our settings and he told my son thank you for serving our country. The our Waiter came out and he told my son thank you for serving our country. As a Dad my buttons were about to rip off my shirt I was so pround. I looked acrossed to see my wife had tears in her eyes at their professional way of treating our son. We can not be more glad that we went to Saltgrass Steak house to Treat our son to a Steak Dinner. Pros: very Professional and caring about our well being in their Restuarant Cons: No free refills on steaks Ha ha ha ha ha more

Left hungry 10/25/2005

My son had a free meal coupon from his school. Only paying for three of us we still got charged almost a hundred dollars, and we all left feeling hungry. The portions are very small. I would certainly say if you think they have good steaks you should get out more! They steaks were OK except my wife's rare was medium. Pros: Decent staff, nice ambience Cons: Small portions, high prices, overblown reputation more

Love Saltgrass 6/6/2005

For special occassions, I always choose to go there. The menu is more varied than at a lot of places and we have never had a bad meal or a bad waiter or waitress! My pet peeve is having an empty glas and I have never emptied my glass of tea there before more is offered. To me, this is a mark of good service! We have to drive a distance to get to the restaurant but it is worth it! Kezziah more

Should be #1 6/6/2005

I've eaten at Salt Grass in many Texas cities and they are consistently excellent and San Antonio is no exception. I recently made lunch reservations for 8 and everyone from hostess to bus boy was extremly polite and courteous. We were seated immediately even though we were a bit early. Our waitress was excellent in seeing that everyone has what was needed. The Prime Rib is excellent! Pros: quality of food, service, good value more

The best steaks in the world! 6/5/2005

If you want the best steak and the best service, go to Saltgrass. I went there, and everything from the wait time to the server was excellent. Our server Carlee was the best server we've ever had, and the manager was awesome too. We never had to wait for anything, we didn't feel rushed, and the food was to die for. My steak came out perfect, and the white chocolate cheesecake was the bomb! I would highly recommend eating there...I now go there at least once a week! If you go, ask for Carlee. She was awesome! Theresa Williams Pros: excellent service, Carlee, awesome food more

Saltgrass, good steak, ok $ 3/11/2004

Whoever wrote that review about Outback out-classing Saltgrass is wrong. Saltgrass is a good steak house. They are a little pricey, but the quality of food is much better than the McDonald's of steakhouses, Outback. The interior is rustic and open. Service was decent. Great place to take a first-date or meet a group of friends, nice-comfortable atmosphere. If you want a good steak, at a moderate price, Saltgrass is the place to go. Go to Ruth Chris' or Morton's if you want the best and are willing to pay for it. Pros: Quality of Meat, Ambiance, Overall Appearance more

choosie 7/8/2003

This was a very nice place. We only waited about 30 min. to be seated. Our waiter was wonderful. However.....my husband ordered a 24oz porterhouse steak and got a large T-Bone. The manager came over and insisted it was a porterhouse, but we know steak. Other then this lack of knowledge for cuts of meat...it was a very nice place to eat. Pros: service, waiting period, good food Cons: parking, crowded, knowledge more

Delicious!!! 6/17/2003

This is some of the best food I have ever had. You must try some of the baked potato soup. Steaks were juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Service was excellent. Everything was great, from the appetizer to the dessert! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

YUUUUMMMMMYYYY!!!!! 5/15/2003

Well, now you've done it!!!! I am now considering driving to S.A. for a large rib eye steak at my favorite steak house of all time!!!! Every steak I have eaten there has just melted in the mouth! Flavors that you just don't get in other steak houses are routine here. The Shiner Bock beer bread is very unique, tasty and could be a dessert at any other restaurant. Service is always excellent!! Atmosphere is very ""Texan"" without over-doing it. Just an extremely enjoyable experience all around!!!! Pros: Best Angus beef aroun, excellent service, friendly atmoshpere Cons: need more parking, only two locations, noisy kitchen more

Awesome 2/4/2003

When I walked in, the place was Awesome, friendly, great service. But, my steak was perfect well done and juicy. Great Food! more
