I had to let people know that I recently purchased a gift for someone at the Southside location. it was a purse that I paid $100 for, then found out you can purchase for $40 at TJ Maxx!! i asked to return the purse, and they would not refund cash. There was NO refund policy posted, until AFTER i returned 30 minutes later to talk to Aimmee, the manager, who explained they are a small family owned business, and do not give refunds! Then she admitted while i was gone, they THEN posted the sign saying no cash refunds! I worked for a small famiy business, and this is BAD BUSINESS!!! Buyer beware. more

I think this is confusing because there are 2 separate salons in this discussion. Destefino's Southside and another Destefino's in Shadyside. Although I have not personally experienced the Shadyside Salon, I hear great things. I love going to Destefino's Southside location because Ashley is a really great stylist and always keeps me up with the trends and makes my hair look fabulous! I've been traveling 45 minutes for the last 2 years just to get my hair done! I do not agree with some of the comments on here but I guess you just can't please everyone! I strongly suggest going here! Pros: always love my hair! Cons: none more

Wow, all I was doing was coming to this site to get DeStefino's phone number, and I could not believe the negative reveiws. I've been getting my hair done at this salon for a year and a half by Craig. He is the best stylist I've ever been to. He actually saved my hair!! My hair was so over-processed, and had begun to break off. It was a mess. A friend referred me to Craig, and he has my hair in the best shape it has ever been. I constantly get complements on how healthy my hair is, how beautiful and natural the color is (I'm a darker blonde). Craig is truly an artist. He is realistic with your goals, and is highly professional. He has a polite, sweet, and experienced assistant (Rebecca)!! Since I've been a client, I've referred 4 friends to Craig, because they've noticed such a difference in my hair!! They all LOVE HIM!!! There are no ripped chairs, peeling paint, hair gobbs in the sink, gum chomping, rude receptionists.......these are just fabrications!! I don't know who left these comments, but karma is a b*#ch!! Ron is very professional and did a wonderful color job on my hair. He was the most knowledgeable colorist I have ever had and knew exactly what to do to my extremely bleached hair to minimize the breakage so I can grow it longer all while still keeping it blonde. Keri, who also helped work on my hair, and has also colored it beautifully before, was very sweet and easy to talk to. Even though the services can get a little pricy, you can't put a price on looking and feeling your best. :) Pros: The professionals, professional products, and the Shadyside A-list treatment Cons: The price is a bit high, but its worth it. more

I used to go to Donna, and my girlfriend went to her husband, Larry. Donna has hacked up my hair for the last time. She's fried it to the point that I have bald spots in the back! I was very impressed with Salon Destefino. The front desk was very pleasant (for all you who say they were "rude"- cmon' we all have bad days). I LOVED my stylist- Deborah. She gave me the best color and cut I've had. She's got great style and was fun to be with. I would recommend her hands down! Thanks and I'LL BE BACK!!! Someone told me this salon had lots of good hairstylists, and I needed a new, exciting haircut. They gave me to this hairstylist named Donna. To be blunt, this hairstylist must have been doing hair for 50 years, so she is experienced. Unfortunately, she hasn't learned anything for 50 years. I tried to explain what I wanted, and when I left, I looked like a 60 year old woman, and I'm only 34! I saw her clients before me, and the one waiting for her after me, and they were around 80 years old. I tried to tell her that I didn't like it, but she was so nasty and jaded, she didn't even hear me. She wasn't nice even during the haircut. I had to go to another salon in Shadyside to get an up to date haircut after my horrible experience with Donna. She's over the hill and should only be doing hair in a nursing home. I went there for the first time very nervous because it was my first haircut in pittsburgh. Randy was great. He noticed the style my hair was originally cut even though I have not had a haircut for over 6 months! My haircut was beautiful, perfect and just the way I wanted it. Hands down! I have the toughest hair to cut. 99.9% of people who cut hair....will screw it up. My current stylist moved out of state, so I was left to close my eyes, hold my breath and pick a new stylist! It just so happens that I guessed right. This place is really good. I have been going there now for about 8 hair cuts. Each one is perfect and I leave the place with that happy feeling. more

Do you want to treat yourself and feel like a new woman? Then make an appointment with Lyndsay H. She is amazing! Her color is perfect everytime. I make sure to make an appointment every six weeks because she books fast and I love to spend my mornings at Salon DeStefano where I am treated with the utmost respect and catered to the whole time! I had to get my hair cut in a 1930s style for a show I'm in and Craig was able to get the look dead on. I was surprised when I called and they were able to take me within a couple of hours. I got to Destefeno and the place was somewhat busy so I was happy they were eager for the business. The place was clean, comfortable and the personnel were very polite and made the whole process a walk in the park. Pros: Didn't wait long and very polite! Cons: Not applicable... more

I just moved to Pittsburgh and have been trying to find a salon - I will never return to this one. As I saw in other postings - the staff at the front desk were just plain rude. I was ON TIME for my appt while the person was LATE. Yet I got the dirty looks for actually showing up on time and was told very snootily that "you'll just have to wait." Also - the person my appt was with in a rush, not friendly and seemed like she couldn't wait to get back to the front desk to resume gossiping with the girls. And that's not really what you want to deal with when getting a bikini waxing - which is what I was there for. Also, as I walked through the salon there was hair everywhere all over the floor - I know this is a hair salon - but it was 10 in the morning and they had only been open a short time - and it already looked sloppy. All in all, avoid this salon. Too bad they take up such prime space on Walnut Street. Pros: Good location Cons: Rude staff, sloppy salon more

Salon DeStefino in business for over 50 years - employing approximately 40 professionals, obviously has a disgruntled ex-employee with a "distorted opinion". After SEARCHING all over town for the right salon, I recently visited Salon de Stefino for the first time. I don't know about the rest of the women in Pittsburgh, but it just makes sense to me to see a stylist who is STYLISH! I found exactly that. Lyndsay H. was my stylist, and I could not have been happier. She made me feel right at home and was very genuine. I told her what I was looking for and she worked her magic! I now have the most amazing highlights and shimmering color. I am getting married next Spring, and I am so excited that I finally found someone capable of handling all the girls in my Bridal party's hair! I left there feeling like a new woman. I recommend this salon to everyone! Pros: Service, Stylist Cons: NONE more

From beggining to end, the worst salon I have ever been in. The girl's at the front desk were sloppy and rude, one was on her cell phone the entire time. When I finally was asked ,what times yer appointment at? chomping gum the whole time. The place was run down and dirty, peeling paint,torn material on the chairs The sink was filled with hair and there was some gunk all over it. Lindsay could not stop looking at herself long enough in the mirror to even see mine, I ended up with a very mediocre hair cut, and was hussled for a massage by some annoying little creepy man. I have been to this salon on a few occasions. The first time I visited, the woman was on the phone for 25 mins while I was in there discussing what she should wear on a date that night. She did not even speak to me, ask if I needed help, or even acknowledge my presence. I was interested in a consulation and making an appointment but received NO help and went elsewhere. I visited again on a Saturday morning and the woman did not speak to me once, not even to say hello after I said hello. I was there with friends who were interested in purchasing dermalogica products and bumble and bumble products, but the sales woman did not even acknowledge our presence, even after we verbalized interest in these products. I would not ever visit this salon, I don't care how good the haircut might be, it is NOT worth the disdain they treat their customers with. RUDE and LAZY! Pros: none Cons: everything! more
