Best

Great location with an amazing selection of sake combined with fantastic food. They have a sake tasting where you get to try 6 different types of sake paired with incredible appet...

Worst

just the staff was nice to me, but way overpriced and small, loud and as they start cooking the whole place smelled like shrimp, so if you're vegetarian...

Below the Belt. 9/13/2006

Average food, average choice of sakes, cheesy bartenders with inflated egos, and a drunken owner being rude and overbearing in the corner. She loves you when you're spending all your money, but drop in to just say ""hello"" then you'll see what this place is really all about. Pros: let me get back to you on this one Cons: everything more

Yes Please. One can never have enough Satskos. 1/7/2006

A sake bar with a most international feel & amazing energy. Satsko, the owner, will welcome you as if you've stepped into her living room. perfect size, easiest place to strike up a conversation with its interesting patrons. Great date spot. Can be mellow, yet I've also seen it turn into quite a kicking party. Try lychee or melon-infused sake or Sakegria. The fusion fare is divine: tuna tartare, melt-in-your-mouth crepes made w/ mangos/ginger jelly, smoked salmon rolls w/fresh ohba mint, tangy mango carrot salad. Their panasian brunch: a delectable bargain. The genuine kindness & attention of stellar Bartenders Riccardo and Warren (along w/their eclectic musical tastes), will make you a regular as soon as you walk in the door. And amazingly, they will remember your name the next time you come back. I heart satskos. there is much magic to be found here again and again. Pros: inexpensive, good conversation, fantastic staff more

User review by dlfl 1/3/2006

This is my favorite neighborhood bar and one worth traveling to as well (as many of my friends as far away as LA will attest!) The very friendly staff will win you over in a heartbeat (in addition to the most delicious food--try the spicy tuna rolls). It's the best place for meeting new people--never a dull moment. The sake tastings on Tuesday and Wednesdays are a total bargain, too.... more

Had enough, 11/27/2005

This is the bar for neighbors and friends of bartender. The saki drinks are not cold enough and not worm enough also. Music is too loud in the tiny space. ""And free drink for the menber"". Had enough, Thak you Pros: Free drink? Cons: Loud Music, Small apace, Not cold drink more

Sake Tasting 10/20/2005

I went to Satsko for the first time last week. I had a great time. I went on Wednesday and I had the sake tasting. It is a great deal, 6 sakes and an appetizer for $20. The best part is you get to pick the sakes you want to try from a long, detailed list. I found the bartenders to be very knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely plan on returning and bringing my friends. Pros: Sake Tasting, Friendly Staff, Good Variety Cons: Small more

If y'all wanna party like we do... 10/13/2005

Satsko's should be on everyone's to do list when visiting the East Village. It's unbelievable to me that someone would not have a good time here, or would think the workers are TOO friendly??? You have got to be kidding me. And what's this about no space for dancing? In New York, you need to get creative with the space you are given, people. Think high. I bring all of my visitors and friends to my sake bomb bar, and we have an awesome adventure each and every time. Warren is my hero. Pros: Warren, Satsko, Sake Bombs more

Back In the Day - 10/3/2005

This place was great a year ago, when it was less about money and more about community and a great neighborhood vibe. more

Oishi! 9/28/2005

Satsko's sake bar may be small is size but its BIG in flavor. From the full, fragrant, fruit infused sakes to the hearty yeast-laden ones, you could spend an evening experiencing all of Satsko's available libations. And I highly recommend you do. The bar's intimate layout is great for celebrations and the sake tastings, which include scrumptious sushi, are perfect for after work events. Impress any date with Satsko's delectable dinner menu which includes Japanese fusion favorites like Carriegiri and nightly specials like Sesame Seared Tuna. The bartender doubles as dj and will keep you dining in the 'mood!' And if your lucky enough to sneak a peek in the kitchen you can catch a glimpse of Satsko's talented new chef whose as HOT as the spicy tuna roll he serves. But don't wait until dinner to enjoy Satsko's service - -- THEY RECENTLY OPENED FOR BRUNCH -- Pros: Friendly, Fresh, Favorite more

Neighborhood Feel 9/23/2005

understated-fantastic 9/9/2005

this place was a find. small and intimate with music just loud enough to carry on with a conversation easily. servers were friendly and the food was interesting. very casual- and a great place to meet interesting people. Cons: semi expensive more

thumb's up 9/7/2005

I went to Satsko's to sip my favorite, wakatake the other night and saw the dishes coming out from the tiny kitchen were all mouth watering, I end up ordering food which I've never done before. What a pleasant surprise! Not only the presentation beautiful but the best tuna tartar I've ever tasted. thumb's up! Pros: food, sake selection, service Cons: small more

Disappointed 9/4/2005

Having been abroad for a year, I was looking forward to Satskos. A place I would hit after class for a drink, it was no longer the same. I feel very similar to No Thanks - maybe we were there on the same night. An older woman was at the bar with her dog- dont know if she was a new owner or the bartender's friend, but it was inappropriate. I have 2 dogs myself, but to eat at a bar where someones dog has just had its paws is gross. Secondly, I dont know if its the same server, but ours was also too friendly. Just because girls goes out without any guys in the mix, doesnt mean were looking to be verbally manhandled. Whatever happened to Ricardo and Ben? Im hoping it was just a bad night - dont think Ill be back to find out though. more

No Thanks 8/25/2005

I'm not opposed to spending a lot on a great meal, but this place was overpriced for the portions and quality - I'm pretty sure I could've gone to Jas Mart and made the same thing in my kitchen for less. I was there on a night where people brought in their ipods and played their own music - horrendous. Between our server chugging ""sake bombs"" with patrons and a crass atmosphere, this place seemed more like an unorganized hang out instead of a respectable establishment. Our server didn't seem to know the first thing about sake, and both my wife and I agreed that he seemed a little too friendly for comfort. Pros: up and coming area Cons: food, server more

East Village Diamond 8/23/2005

Always an extreme delight and pleasure when I enter Sake Bar Satsko. An enduring gem not to be passed by when in the east village. Treat yourself to it. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Where are you supposed to Dance? 7/20/2005

I was dragged here by a friend of mine who lives in the neighborhood. All I have to say is that all these comments must have been written by the 10 regulars who were in the bar the other night. Exactly where are you supposed to dance? There is NO dance floor, the bar is barely big enough to seat the 10 people who were there. I felt unwelcomed, like you were part of the group, or you weren't. Cons: too small, too cliquey more

Sooo Goood 7/12/2005

This bar, one of my favorites in the East Village is one of those places that keep surprising me everytime i walk in there. The food is incredible, the drinks always well and happily served and the atmosphere is simply an oasis in the village. As a girl or a man, you will always find somebody fun and interesting to talk to, starting with the bartenders and the owner that give the essential ingredients any place need, warmth, good energy and big drinks!!! I will always come back there... Pros: Atmosphere more

nice mellow hang 7/8/2005

good place to sit and relax and drink a tea, or stay up late and indulge in some tasty wine, beer or sake. nice rotation of music, and you can avoid the hipsterathon of the usual east village spots. try the infused sake or the nigori, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. more

magical!!! 7/5/2005

It is a magical place where you feel at home no matter where you are from. The minute I stepped into the bar, I felt at home. Everyone is very warm but not intruding. I highly recommend the bar if you are in the mood for human connections. A nd top it all, the food there is very unique and delectible, music eclectic, soothing interior and flower galore. I think Satsko is a place where you can experience the five senses. I definitely go back again and again. Pros: value, varieties, delicious food Cons: small more

sooo good 6/30/2005

satsko's is hands down the best bar i have ever been too. granted, it lacks a hard liquor license, but to be honest i don't really think it needs one, because satsko's isn't the kind of bar where one feels the need to get so drunk. to me, drinking at satsko's is the way drinking was meant to be done. from the moment you sit down, someone is always in the middle of an interesting conversation with one of the bars fabulous bartenders. everyone is drinking leisurely and enjoying themselves, which is such a god-send from frequently bars where everyone is slugging down drinks to get enough courage to talk to one another. here, starting up a conversation is the easiest thing in the world, and the bartenders are hysterically funny. great sense of humor at this place, and you can really see the love. Pros: bartenders, owner more

the best kept secret in the east village... 6/24/2005

is satsko's. very cozy and inviting atmosphere with a knowledgeable and friendly staff instantly makes you feel like a regular. huge selection of sakes compliment the tasty japanese-fusion menu perfectly. one warning: beware of the satsko sake bomb! highly recommended. more
