I just realized this owner just cares about money!!!

DO NOT EAT HERE 5/3/2010

Sushi entrees were tiny, way overpriced and did not come with soup or salad. Sashimi pieces were as thin as they could possibly get. They also included their tip on a 2 person tab. Soy sauce dishes were filled with lint. A restaurant. com coupon was the only reason we went here and it was not worth it. Would rather get more food for less money somewhere else. We left hungry and angry. Cons: Overpriced. Very small portions. more

Great sushi and tofu 11/27/2009

The food was savory and the atmosphere was mellow. You can sit in front of the sushi table and enjoy watching the chefs cut up fish in front of you, which I thought was neat. It's definitely a good sushi restaurant where my boyfriend got rolls and I opted for the Foie Gras Tofu which melted in my mouth. However, the portions are small, so it's best to order some appetizers. And it was a bit pricey, but seemed well worth it since we had a $25 off Restaurant . com coupon. I'd return to eat there, but probably not without the coupon. Pros: Everything was scrumptious Cons: Pricey & small portions more

Sushi was outstanding, I am no sushi connoisseur but everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. There was a nice selection of sake and the selections from the menu can satisify everyone. Excellent Restaurant 9/24/2008

I've been here twice and each time was a delight. The fish was nice and fresh and I liked the different things they have to choose from. I had this tuna dish with some spicy sauce on it and I thought it was the best of everything I tried. I also had the Kushiage for the first time here. From what I remember they were pretty pricey but then again its in NY. I would go back to S.C. if I ever want good sushi and am in the area. more

Surprisingly Reasonable Price for High Quality & Great Service!!! 4/20/2008

I just moved to LES area and was looking for a nice Japanese Cuisine. I tried one place on Houston st, but wasn't impressed at all. So I went online and looked for a real Japanese food in the area, then I found Sachiko's. I went there few days ago with my friend and we had an amazing experience!! It looked kind of high-priced restaurant from the outside decor, but what a surprise!! The whole menu was so reasonably priced and the food was really freash and great! We were also amazed by their super nice and attentive waitstaff. It makes so much difference to be served by such civilized people!! Now THAT's called ""service""! They also have a beautiful garden space for dining. We didn't sit there because it was still a little cold outside, but I can't wait to go back there again and try the outdoor dining experience at Sachiko's next time! more

Excellent Japanese on the Lower East Side 3/18/2008

I just had one of the best Japanese restaurant experiences in a long time. I've been to numerous Japanese restaurants in New York City but the have always been underwhelmed by the food and overwhelmed by the price. It's a challenge to find the combination of great food with the right price. Sachiko's on Clinton on the Lower East Side is the right place that has dispelled my longstanding feeling about Japanese restaurants in the city. It has great food, excellent service and an ambiance that combines elegance with a touch of neighborhood that is perfect for a date, a small get together with friends, or a bite to eat after Yoga. Awesome food--great sushi 2/19/2008

I can't get over how much fun we had at this spot! We happened to read about them on this site when we new we would be in the area. Our friend had never had Japanese food before. Now he says he is hooked! The staff was way cool and recomended things for us. We will definitely be eating here again. Thanks! more

Best Sushi in NYC! 2/13/2008

I have been all over town to different Sushi joints and this is certainly one of my faves. I had amazing service and everyone in the place seemed all smiles. Terrible time! 1/16/2008

My friends & I went to Sachiko's New Year's Eve for dinner. My friend made reservations a week before. We've been here about 2-4 times already & expected the same great service & food we've had in the past year. I decided I wanted tofu foie gras, black cod, & Tamatebako jewel box. Most of my friend's wanted the Omakase. Sachiko herself came over & asked if we wanted the big bottle of sake, we ordered the bottle & it was served in 6 wooden square cups Pros: Good food under normal conditions Cons: Customer Service is lacking. more

Simply the BEST Japanese cuisine in NYC!!! 11/28/2007

I've read several great reviews about Sachiko's in magazine articles and online, but I was a bit hesitant (and lazy!) about going there because of the location. However, I finally had a chance to dine at Sachiko's with my friends the other day. What a surprise!!! It was simply my BEST experience at Japanese restaurants in the whole NYC!!! The food is great and the staff are all very nice, polite and attentive. Their price (some people claim that it's kinda high...) is totally reasonable for the fresh and tasty food that they serve. It was just worth traveling to LES!!! I can't wait to go back there again!! more

Surprisingly good 5/19/2007

I live in the neighborhood and pass by this place often, finally decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised at how innovative and delicious the food is! Try their soba noodle salad or panko fried tuna, they also have a great selection of fresh fish and beer. It's a little pricey but nothing outrageous, definitely a restaurant I'll be going to again! Excellent and inovative cuisine 12/3/2006

I recently took two friends in from Los Angeles here for dinner. The food was superb. Completely innovative and incredibly fresh. We started with a Sake Tasting Menu complete with food pairing that was an exquisite dining experience unto itself. From there we moved on to some Uni Ravioli that I think has changed me forever. Everything about this place was wonderful. The ambiance, the fresh food, the drinks, and the service were all top notch. We went on a Wednesday night and sat in the garden out back. The garden makes for a romantic setting once the sun starts going down. It was just so quaint, perfect, and relaxed. They have a ladies night deal on Wednesdays which you should ask about (I opted out as I was with my boyfriend & we wanted to try other things). The server was very sweet and attentive. We ordered a two rolls (salmon avocado and tuna jalape?o), which were both very fresh & delicious, and a yellow tail with jalape?o appetizer, which was so tasty ! This is the most authentic but also creative Japanese restaurant in the city. The atmosphere is down to earth but classy. It's intimate, fun, friendly and sophisticated. The food is excellent, and it's the right price for the quality you get. It's not expensive compared to all the hyped up places that don't even serve good food. It's also not like any of the cheesy japanese/chinese/""asian"" joints around the corner -- it's genuine Japanese cuisine. The sakes are wonderful as well and our waiter was really nice. I had such a great time with friends. Really one of the best dining experiences I've had in the city. Recommended for everyone who really enjoys a good dinner out. 1 of my favorite Sushi spots... ANYWHERE! 2/13/2006

I've been to Sushi places all over the world. This ranks in the top few I've been to. I don't know what the other guy is talking about when he says the Sushi chef and owner ignored him, but I'm guessing it was more his attitude than anything. Every time I've gone in there I have been treated like WONDERFULLY... The chef has explained everything I'm eating when it isn't busy. Easily one of the best in the city.... A bit difficult to find, but well worth it. The food was excellent [I recommend the subtle sesame tofu] and served promptly. Our adorable waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, though he seemed rather young. Sachiko recommended an exceptional sake. Midtown food & drinks, downtown ambience 10/20/2005

OISHII--TOP NOTCH 7/23/2005

Finally--A sushi restaurant that serves traditional sushi and doesn't conform to the knee jerk tendency toward Japanese fusion. The waiters were friendly and attentive, as was Sachiko, the owner. Tanaka, the sushi chef at the sushi bar, formerly of MASA, showed me the utmost hospitality and prepared each sushi to perfection. This sushi restaurant rivals any of Tokyo's best. more

    Any recommendations for sushi newbies?
    Try Carpaccio in ponzu sauce and California roll.

    What drink pairs best with sushi?
    Sake, especially Junmai. We also have sakes you won't find in other restaurants that pair well with our tapas.

    The secret to preparing sushi is?
    The rice. It's a complicated process; the ratio of sushi vinegar to water, the amount of time you steam, the texture. My taste is very traditional from Japan.

    How do you describe your menu?
    Traditional Japanese with a twist. We're not Asian fusion, but we like to experiment with traditional Japanese ingredients.

    What's your favorite dish?
    The Goma Dofu is actually a 1,000-year-old recipe from Kyoto, Japan. It's a handmade sesame tofu.

    Your most creative roll?
    The Wildfire Roll. It's a California roll with fresh jalapeno, spicy tuna on top and special sauce.
