Can you say HORRIBLE 1/2/2006

Awful from start to finish. Upon arrival there was not a host in sight which resulted in a couple arriving after us to be seated before us. We were escorted to a table twice and then turned back after losing our seats at the bar. We were subjected to the same CD over and over every 20 minutes. The host offered us 2 free appetizers; but, they were not of our choosing, just plopped down on the table. As for the food, we asked for nothing sweet. The waiter assured us it was spicy not sweet. Every dish from appetizer to soup to volcanic chicken was sickeningly SWEET. Not to mention that they served mushy CANNED peas and carrots in their dishes. This place may be cheap but as far as I wouldn't eat this place again if they were giving it away. more

Food was delicious 10/31/2005

Went there and had a combination of different seafood dishes and appetizers. The food was spicy and delicious. It might have been a little too spicy for my friend, which you can couteract with eat more rice and keeping water on hand. The place is a little tight and on a cold day, the seating by the entranceway can be pretty drafty. The price was extremely reasonable for the appetizers and food we ate. My suggestion is to eat family style because you'll want to try the other dishes. Pros: Excellent seafood, Great appetizers, Bargain Cons: Tight space, Drafty (if near door) more

cute place..good food 7/24/2005

decor is cute and hip. service was prompt and friendly. food is flavorful. the lunch special menu is a good value. Pros: hip/cool decor, friendly more

So spicy it hurts 3/30/2005

I didn't expect a good Thai place in the E. Village, but the city is full of surprises, including the fact that it's really inexpensive ($20 for a salad, drink, and entree after tax and tip). The duck salad was on the overcooked side but tasty. The Spicy Dark Ocean was chock full of calamari, but nearly drowned in an overly salty brown sauce. My friends loved the Drunk Man noodles and sweet-ish pad thai. The ""All Asian"" drink special was as sweet as the lychee floating in the glass. We couldnt understand our servers accent sometimes but overall, with good, inexpensive food, trendy decor and chill music, its not hard to see why Sea was packed on a Tuesday night. Pros: Inexpensive, Fun atmosphere Cons: Can be crowded more

Low Maintenance Dining 9/7/2004

Good food- Great prices. Really inexpensive and the food is definitely a deal. However, if you are taking a date here or trying to impress, I would try somewhere else. The service is sadly, what you pay for. Confused and sub-par. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food more

exceptional east village techno-thai 5/31/2004

I keep going down to the Sea, again & again, for the unique mix of high-design / minimalist ambiance, electronica music and exceptional Thai food. I usually don't mind loud, crowded spots, but it used to seem literally elbow-to-elbow. They must have removed a few tables when they closed for rennovations over the winter; the extra space helps. The crowd sometimes seems to be uniformly 20 years old... but go in, order pad thai, green coconut milk chicken curry, spring rolls w/ extra peanut sauce and a couple frosty bottles of Singha beer. How do you say ""mmmm-good!"" in Siamese while groovin' to Massive Attack? Rest an elbow at the small pink-under-lit bar in the rear if you have to wait for a table, instead of hanging on the sidewalk. Sea consistently delivers awesome Thai vittles... and it's a very cool little subterranean spot. Pros: food, decor, electronica more

Excellent For Groups 12/7/2003

A wonderful place to bring friends and for a trendy meal. The ambiance is wonderful with a trendy eastern decor. The food is a bit spicy many dishes have a ginger in them. Overall a wonderful experiance for a low price. more

Can't see the tasty food i'm eating 9/15/2003

i have to agree it is the best tasting thai food in NYC. Their noodle dishes were perfect, not too saucey and not too dry. they don'd skim on the shrimps either. the Lemongrass chicken was mouthwatering. Portions are just right. my only complaint is the lighting of the restaurant. ITS WAY TOO DARK!!!!! i hope someone works there read this. we were literally eating blind. i don't understand why it is so dark in there. it is strictly a restaurant, there's no bar. the staff must have bad eyes from working there. in order for us to read our menus, we had to collect candles from other tables. if it wasn't for the food, i would not recommend this place at all. if you want great thai food, go to sea. remember to go during the day and sit in the front where there's light coming in. Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, OK service Cons: POOR LIGHTING more

best value in the city 7/6/2003

this place has been great since day 1. i live around the corner and haven't had better food, ambiance, quick service, and cheap eats. to the user who only left a $6 tip, you got what you deserve- who the hell do you think you are leaving such a measely tip?? you OBVIOUSLY are not from nyc. please stay at home- you are probably one of those customers who runs the waiter around, complains about everything, orders your entree with 5,000 changes, and then writes a complaint on citysearch. please move away, new yorkers hate 10% tippers like you. more

How rude! 6/11/2003

Food wasn't great, but we were having fun until the friend who bought dinner left a $6 tip. The man who worked there very rudely told her, ""the tax was $4! You only left $6! "" At first we had no idea what he was saying, and he said it to us twice more, both times rudely and unpleasantly. Okay, so that wasn't a great tip and she probably meant to leave a dollar more, but he's TELLING her to leave more?!?!?!?! We will NOT be going back. more

hands down, one of the best... 6/7/2003

places i have ever eaten. the service is amazing, the food is unreal, and the prices are so low you won't believe the quality of food could be this good! take my advice and eat here soon!! Pros: food, service, value more

Trendy Thai 3/8/2003

Walking toward the restaurant I literally expected a hole-in-the wall kind of restaurant. However I found the restaurant catered to hip, but low-key crowd of patrons. I had to get there early to put my name down for the group of 7 that I had. It was a bit confusing at first, but I finally found the waiter/host that told me that it would be a 45-50 minute wait. It turned out to be relatively accurate and my group showed up at about the right time to be seated. Overall, the food was quite tasty and reasonably priced. They offer a few types of beer, wine, and cocktails. Although small, this restaurant serves up quite a nice meal. Check it out if you're on the Lower East Side and are itching for some Thai. Enjoy. Pros: Food, Reasonable, Location Cons: Crowded, Long wait more

Yummy Thai 1/2/2003

Sea has great food, no doubt about that. BUT, going here depends on what type of restaurant you're looking for. There are waits (no rezzies) which can be annoying, but once you're seated it's quick. Get some sangria and order a $4 appetizer (i love the puffs). Entres are priced at around $7 - $8, specials being around $12. It's a great buy, with quick service but it's NOT romantic. I've had almost everything on the menu; my favorites are the Pad Woon Sen, Drunk Man noodle and Pad Thai. Pros: Great Food, Cheap Eats, Sangria Cons: Crowded, long waits, No liquor more

Best Thai food in NY 12/31/2002

I have been coming to Sea ever since it opened a couple of years ago. The pad-thai is simply the best in the entire city (trust me, I've tried them all). Ever since I discovered their amazing dishes I haven't found any other restaurant that satisfies my craving for Thai food as completely as Sea. As further inducement, their prices are so reasonable that you can't afford not to try their food at least once if you are a true Thai-food afficionado. Take it from me, you'll be coming back for more. more

Over Rated!! 12/12/2002

We went to Sea Thai because of it's high rating at Citisearch. However, our experience was definitely disappointing. The food is average, too salty and overcooked. Price is reasonable. more

What a score! 10/30/2002

Pad Thai here is the BEST I've had! This place is a great value - the food is excellent (been here a bunch of times and have never had anything that wasn't delicious) - the service is great and quite fast! The ambience is makes for a really enjoyable meal - dim lighting, funky music, candles, and a cozy seating arrangement makes for a great place to have dinner with a group of friends or a date. MUST try the crispy banana dessert! more

""sea"" their Williamsburg location 10/22/2002

Just check it out, and tell me what you all think! I thought it was AMAZING! FOOD is cheap, and delicious. Service-great! DECOR IS SOMETHING OUT OF THE ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST! NOT TO BE MISSED. TAKE THE TRAIN, GO TO BROOKLYN! BE AMAZED! more

Good Thai Food 8/11/2002

This Thai restaurant is not expensive. It has a lot of creative dishes. Like Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice for one. It is not your usual Thai restaurant. It also has nice romantic ambience. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: No waiting area more
