Ruffin Building Systems (RBS) began in 1971 with the construction of a farm shop building in the backyard of the founder, Shelton Ruffin. Area farmers were impressed with the metal structure, and a local market developed. In 1972, RBS was incorporated and began operations in a 2000 square foot facility. The company experienced continuous growth, and by 1980, sales exceeded $3 million. In 1981, RBS invested in a sheet rollformer, a purlin mill, and an automatic frame welder. Enhanced quality and efficiency allowed RBS to penetrate the industrial and commercial markets.
In 1987, a district sales force was established, and RBS expanded into 37 states and several foreign countries. Facilities now exceed 300,000 square feet. A plasma arc cutting table, side-by-side “zee” and “cee” rollformer, and an architectural standing seam panel system has made RBS a state-of-the-art manufacturer. Ruffin's computer systems and software are the most advanced available.
RBS has been an active member of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association since 1981 and was AISC Category MB certified in 1997. In 2008 the MBMA adopted the International Accreditation Services AC472 program and made it a requirement for continued membership. Ruffin Building Systems achieved it's AC472 accreditation on 11-23-2010.
