The service was great. From the receptionist, bartender and food server, the food was well prepared and of high quality without the FULL New York over priced menu. When in New Yor...

I hear this restaurant is from the same owners of Tao and Stanton Social. Service seems to be getting worse and worse. I dined there 2 months ago with my wife and we got sick from...

Great Brunch and Food! 4/3/2008

This place was great, yes it was very busy but the staff was very fast and quick to get us seated and take our order. Rue 57 is very cute inside and i love the fact that you can get great sushi at a French restaurant!! Pros: Food and drinks Cons: Busy more

Avoid Avoid Avoid 3/30/2008

Some restaurants are good and remain so; others get so full of themselves they lie there, corpulent, lazy and arrogant--assuming everyone will still pack them in, even if the food has become lackluster, and worst, the service has gone down the DRAIN. Pros: location Cons: insipid, uninspired, rude more

Great Location 2/25/2008

I will admit I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I hate it and I love it. I have been here on a few occasions now and have waited this long to write a review because each time I go there are moments where I love it and moments where I hate it. I'll write about my last experience. I went with my girlfriend during the week so it was pretty quite. The food is great, there is no doubt about that, and the restaurant is very nicely appointed but let me tell you what I don;t like about it. Every time I have gone the waiters push you when you are ordering. I was looking at the wine list and the waiter said may I make a suggestion and pointed at a few wine bottles all were in the 90 to 120 dollar range. I was a little upset to say the least. I was not looking to add another 100 dollars to the bill because the waiter wanted a bigger tip. But after I ordered a 40 dollar bottle of wine and go that out of the way he was great and very attentive. Overall a great experience and I guess thats what keeps me coming back but every time there is always something that upsets me. Pros: Great Food Cons: The waiters always push expensive wines more

seemingly nice place...but definately not worth it 2/24/2008

Insulting Service 2/2/2008

This is one for the history books. Three of us including a concierge friend dined here at 10pm on a Friday night. I arrived half way through to join them. I had to ask two separate staff members for a menu, and I NEVER got a menu. I did manage to get a drink after 20 minutes of being at the tabel. The server was clearly novice. Table maintenance was non-existent. My concierge friend had identified himself to a manager early on, and proceeded to provide some feedback on the lack of service. The manager was uninterested and made no attempt at damage control. It seemed as this was normal for the restaurant. After a $200 bill, the server charged us for the wrong table, once again the manager was indifferent to the mistake an no apology or acknowledgement of poor service was given. more

Very good food, but very, very slow service! 12/9/2007

Went went to Rue 57 without a reservation, with a party of 6 on an early Saturday evening. We were seated within 5 minutes. We were in town from D.C. visiting for the weekend, and looking forward to a nice dinner out at a new restaurant. Beautiful restaurant. However, service was very slow. Our waiter took a very long time to bring our cocktails. We thought he'd forgot about our table. We received our drinks after a long wait, and he informed us that his shift was changing... what does that mean?? We were seated downstairs, near the kitchen entrance I believe. Terrible seating. Seating upstairs is much nicer, and has a nice view of 6th Ave. Food took quite a while too! About 1 hour!!! The food was very good, however, we had 3 children with us, and they did not enjoy the food at all. There's no children's menu. Pros: Food Cons: Service, downstairs seating more

We loved it!!! 11/25/2007

We went into this beautiful midtown brasserie Friday night for dinner. We were lucky , they were able to accomodate us without a reservation. From entering the restaurant until we left this was such a memorable dinning ecperience. I met Ken and Greg the managers who were such hospitable gentleman. The steak au poive was delicious, and those Kobe burgers are just way to easy to eat all night. Our server was on point and the place just looks so great this time of year. YOU MUST GO!!!! Make reservations, it's usually busy more

Beautiful atmosphere 11/25/2007

12/22/07 - Well we went back again first time was good, and sat by the bar, at a table, while I was in the ladies room, this little contol freak asked my bf to get up off the table and tried to put her hands on him, so when I came back, he just wanted to leave. Also, when I first came in the hostess said we can sit where we wanted next to the bar. Their loss, glad I wasan't there when she said this. I feel sorry for people like this, if they think it makes me feel bad, it doesn't. Won't be going there again, and I was goint to bring 10 people in February for a birthday party so they will lose not me. Also, my aunt and 2 uncles coming from out of town were going to go on Monday, but they will not go after this and the owner is just walking around mumbling. Another tip, obviously this is not a restaurant with a ""children's menu"", oh boy , if you needed to know. Pros: Beautiful restaurant - just superficially Cons: Rude people and waiters bump into you should have given a shoulder check more

Great location great food 11/23/2007

I don't know why people write such negative reviews. This place is still an amazing midtown dinning experience. If there is any negative, it is that more people know how good it is and it's busy all the time. Make reservations like I do. The food is still superb. And the service is usually right on. Brunch....well, brunch is brunch. Gotta love those servers for getting up at 6:00am to get to work. My suggestion to those who don't enjoy certain restaurants....don't go. But don't try and stop people from having an great NYC restaurant experience. Which is what you'll have at Rue 57. more

Avoid for lunch -- Terrible value.. extremely overpriced 11/19/2007

It took almost 2 hours to eat lunch at this place. The sushi was spoiled and clearly not fresh, the soup was cold and the service was slow. the basement smelled like dead rodent on a warm summer day Pros: nothing Cons: the food and service more

GROSS 11/19/2007

I have been here many times and it keeps going downhill. First I had bad sushi, but figured I would give it one more try. When I walked into the restaurant today, it smelled like dead animal and after my experience today I will NEVER be going back. The service was slow and bad and the food was worse. I asked for my mini burgers medium and when they finally came out they were raw. My waiter was nowhere to be found and acted surprised when I sent the burgers back. After todays meal I know the food there is disgusting. I suggest nobody dine there, especially if you're on a lunch break because your minimum time in there will be an hour and a half. more

Stressful place and unprofessional staff 10/21/2007

Don't let the outside and the decor fool you. The place looks nice. It makes for a very unpleasant dining experience. I went for lunch and the place was packed. We were seated right away, but the service was rushed and the staff is really unprofessional. They create a very rushed atmosphere and the waiters are moving around so fast carrying tables and chairs over the patrons' heads. My boyfriend was bumped several times by the watiers carrying furniture through the dining room. Also, in the middle of the main dining room there is a large hutch where the waiters throw the dirty dishes after they clear the table. They THROW the dishes in their and it is so loud that I jumped. Then the bus boys take a huge stack of dirty dishes downstairs to the kitchen but they walk right by the tables. Unfortunately, we were sitting in the worst possible table in the middle of the upstairs main dining room But the point is, as a customer, I dont want to see all of the behind-the-scenes operations of the restaurant. Waiters were complaining to one another and to the manager right next to the customers. The music is a mix of 90s pop songs and it is played far too loud. We ordered the basic hamburger which was brought out with a thick meat patty, undercooked, covered in blue cheese crumbles, and a little dish of ketchup. We had to ask for a plate of lettuce, tomato, and pickles and when the bus boy brought it out, he tossed it onto our used bread plate and some of the bread fell onto my boyfriend's lap. It was so rude! The bottom line is this restaurant is overpriced and you would probably have a better experience eating at the Cheesecake Factory. I know the service is better there. This place is just a Cheesecake Factory dressed up in French decor minus the cheesecake. Don't bother. Keep walking. more

Worst Service in NYC...Ever! 10/11/2007

I recently had breakfast at Rue 57 with my parents and the service was hideous! I have never in my seven years in this city experienced such poor service. There must have been three waiters for the whole place with about 10 busboys who could have cared less. The food took forever and they forgot half of our sides but did not forget to charge us for them. The eggs were pure salt and the ""endless coffee"" is a lie. You're lucky if you even get a second cup! I had to constantly look for a server to bring us menus, to take our order, for refills and to even take our check. We ended up leaving cash with a tip of less than 10% after being ignored for 10 minutes. I personally would have left zero. Don't go here because the waiters are the worst in the city and you can make this food at home for a fraction of the cost!!!! Shame on you Rue 57. Pros: The ambience is nice. Cons: The service is appaling. more

The worst service I have ever encountered. Save your time and money. When I tried to discuss the poor service with the manager he said ""It is good that we know"". Well, it is good that I know now. more

Excellent atmospere & service! 4/5/2007

We went there for a lunch, got table in a minute - a perfect one! service was fast, helpful & nice! The food was good enough, but not what I would expect from a french restaurant!... but the average food was balance by good service & atmosphere! I would recomend to go there for a lunch, to have a healthy salad & unhealthy dessert!-) Pros: cappuccino Cons: too much of french fries for a French restaurant!:-D more

Perfect Steak Frites, Martinis, and Location 3/2/2007

We were first introduced to this Fab restaurant by the Concierge at Waldorf 4 years ago. Since then we have had lunch 3 x and dinner 4 x ,plus cocktails and Sushi numerous times. Yes, Sushi! My husband loves sushi and , even though this is a bistro with French overtones, they have an an amzing Sushi Chef just off the bar ready to make you whatever you enjoy. I my self have had the steak and fries( frites) , chicken and various desserts. Try it on a warm summer day when the sliding doors are open and you can watch the ama zing NYC scenery go by. more
