Worst

Sausage Factory so yeah . . . if you are a chick that is a solid 5 or 6 have fun. There are a lot of those in NYC. Knock yourself out. Have another free hot dog. Pros: Cheap ...

Gross...but still cool 8/27/2005

This place is really fun and has character which isn't common around midtown. Cheap booze, free hotdogs and popcorn, and some interesting characters- this place is always a good time. Pros: cheap beer more

Crappy 10/7/2004

Stumbled accross this bar with DP, J Dubya, B Dubya and C Dubya - had a great time. DP adored the free hotdogs and B Dubya could not get enough of the $8 pitchers. Great jukebox and great service. The best thing about tghis place is after a night on the beers, Burritoville is just next door - what more can I say. more

Rudy's Has Changed 7/1/2004

Rudy's has changed, man. This used to be a great "dive," but as my friend said not its just a dive, despite their efforts to spruce the place up. Most disappointingly, the hot dogs are no longer "always available and always free." The new hipster bartenders gave me the run around for an hour doing happy hour saying that either the hot dogs were not done or that they "had to hold off on the hot dogs." I know they're free and it might sound ungrateful to say they made wait for a hot dog (something the bartender implied when he said "How about I charge you $5 for that hot dog). The free hot dogs are the whole point of Rudy's! Rudy's had changed, man. Bring back Johnny Dirt! more

Not Much of a Social Scene 6/11/2004

I've been to Rudy's a couple of times while visiting NYC (I live out of town). It's got a fun, divey atmosphere, but both times I have been there, there were WAY more guys than girls. So, I would caution you if you are a guy looking to meet someone (it is, after all, ranked highly amongst the best "singles scene" bars). Of course, if you're a girl, you should have a lot to choose from and get plenty of attention. Otherwise, I would say that it's a fairly cool place if you're just looking to toss a few back with your buddies. Pros: Cheap beer, Free hot dogs more

You have to go!!! 12/15/2003

We had to drag the recomendation out of the Doorman. Glad we did. Great Jukebox, great crowd, and fantastic bouncer. He met us at the door and told us (in a Pro Wrestler voice) "get your ass in there and don't come out till you're drunk!" A local Wall Street type said it best. "This place smells like a whole bag of Funk" Cheap Beer, free hot dogs, Baseball on the old 20" TV above the bar, and Miles Davis on the Jukebox. It just doesn't get any better than this. Pros: jukebox, Free Dogs, Bouncer more

Smells like bar 4/14/2003

The bar smell from Rudy's hits you while you are still two doors away. Decades old beer and cigarette smoke have become permanently embedded in the floor ceiling, floor, banquettes and bar stools. While I wouldn't want to live there it is undeniably a great place to hang. The cheap suds, free dogs, great jazz juke and interesting people have always made for a fun time. more

The perfect dive 1/16/2003

I ran out of money one night, and their atm was down, so the bartender bought us a round. That coupled with unlimited free hot dogs made it another perfect evening at Rudy's. (And the door guy rocks). more

USED to be good... 1/16/2003

Rudy's used to be the ultimate hang out, but now it's been overrun by wannabe hipsters and the rest of the flack that has taken over Hells Kitchen. It is still a fantastic bar with a great jukebox, but not after work. Try on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon - especially in summer when you can hang out out back. Pros: cheap, outside seating, great jukebox Cons: got too trendy more

cheap booze 1/2/2003

great place to get smashed and drink with others with the same idea, especially later on weekend nights. nice, eclectic crowd. usually pretty packed and slightly rowdy so i wouldn't suggest it for a first date or quiet conversation. more

This is a great dive bar! The drinks are very inexpensive and they have free hotdogs! Great place to meet friends before you go out. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Crowded, Small more

Finally a real bar. 9/10/2002

You cannot beat cheap beer, an eclectic crowd, and a great jukebox. The staff is friendly and so is the clientele. It is not a dive bar; it is a bar with soul. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Atmosphere, Good Jukebox more

  • The Scene
Rudy's is one of the last bars in Manhattan where suits, slackers and lifetime ne'er-do-wells commingle in a laid-back, beer-laden haze. It's always loud and crowded, even when the backyard "garden" is open. And when you're ready to date out of your comfy little social circle, slap on your sluttiest lipstick or your spiffiest blue jeans and head here. Chances are you'll cozy up in one of Rudy's little red banquettes with someone new before long.

    The Draw
Heated on one of those fast-food rotisseries and served with a plain white bun and a little mustard, the full-sized hot dogs are always free and always available--so long as "the hot dog guy" is behind the bar. The blackboard lists about 12 brews on tap, from Bud to Checker Cab Blonde Ale; Rudy's Red, the house brew, is dirt cheap but rather weak.
