Going in the WRONG direction!!!!! 3/7/2010

I've been going to this restaurant almost three decades since it used to be Freddies La Cabana. It was my first real introduction to Mexican food and I was in love. When Freddie owned it (whether he was there or on a fishing trip), the food and service were great.\r \r The new owner has changed the name of the restaurant to hers and kept the menu items fairly similar. That is where the similarities end. \r \r The portions have gradually become smaller and smaller. The food seems to taste different from time to time and is not consistent. One time, I was served salad that looked rotten. I only stayed thinking it might have been a one time thing. It was not. \r \r Most importantly, there is no service. The young gal who works there definately should not be a waitress. She would be better suited as a prison guard. As a previous reviewer commented, the waitress is totally useless. She is always busy in the back talking or on the phone or just ;lain hiding. She practically throws your food on the table. All her smiles are so fake. Doesn't she know that everyone knows? This is not what I call restaurant service.\r \r After going to this restaurant for several years, I no longer will be. In retrospect, I think I kept going mainly because the taste of the food was one that I was familar with since I was a teenager. This seems no longer the case. The combination of changes in the food quality, decrease in food quantity and lack of service are enough for me to stop eating at Rosa's. \r \r I honestly don't understand how anyone would want to eat there a second time, if his/her first visit to the restaurant was after Roas's takeover. It has definately changed to something no one looks for in a dining experience.\r \r It's just sad... Pros: Food is sometimes good. Cons: Service is horrible and practically not present more

GROSS FOOD - AWFUL SERVICE - DIRTY PLACE 11/21/2008

Lets start with the entrance this place is defenitely a hole in the wall, very small shack! It is extremely dirty it seems like they just don't believe in CLEANING- YUCKY! - There are insects everywhere, (when i was there, their were ants all over in the walls, ceilings everywhere you name it, trully unsanitary!) Service is just REPULSIVE, i cannot believe they do not greet you, instead you are looked at as if you are not a costumer but an intruder ! Waitress, is Lazy, always on the phone having personal conversations, you practiclly sit there for half an hour until she notices you, sometimes the cook has to come out and take your order?? what the hell? whatever i guess times are bad, but the waitress hides in the back most of the time or simple sits down and just pigs out! She does not care if there are customers there! I will NEVER go there again! My Carnitas Burrito was all full of FAT! VERY DISGUSTING! And to top it off their restroom is defenitely a Public one, just plain nasty! i would also like to mention the murals on the walls are Plain ridiculous!!!! EVERYTHING in this Gross Shack is ABSURD prices are so high and QUALITY IS SO LOW! : ( I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! BE WARE ------ YOU DO NOT WANT TO EAT THERE!!!!!!!!!!! I REPEAT BEWARE - YOU DO NOT WANT TO EAT THERE!! There are so many BETTER quality Mexican Restaurants out there!!!!! more

Great Mexican Food 3/4/2008

I have been going to Freddie's (now Rosa's La Cabana) for years. The waitress took over the restaurant a couple of years ago and it seems as if nothing has changed. The Service is great and so is the food. The Carnitas torta is the best and so is ""The Claudia Special"" I recommend that anyone that is looking for a good restaurant in Torrance Rosa's La Cabana is the place to go. Enjoy!!! more

Great Local Spot 2/8/2008

We've been going to Freddie's La Cabana (now ""Rosa's La Cabana"") for decades. It is a family-run, family-friendly restaurant with great service and low prices. Don't expect anything fancy - it is a quaint hole-in-the wall, where the waitresses are all family members. Whether you are a regular or not, you'll be welcomed into Rosa's and feel like a valued customer. \r \r We're confused by a poor rating the restaurant recently received stating the waitresses were rude and the food was bad and expensive. We've always enjoyed the food - it is basic home-style cuisine served in a casual atmosphere. As far as being expensive, two of us just ate there tonight for less than $20. If that isn't cheap for sit-down service, then I don't know what is. It is not a take-out place - it is a restaurant which happens to offer take-out service. The comparison to El Burrito Jr., a strickly take-out fast food place where you stand outside on Pacific Coast Highway and order from a window, is unfair.\r \r Rosa's, we love you and your staff! M&D Pros: Family friendly. Inexpensive. Casual. Good food and service for the price. Cons: Limited seating at times. more

Bad quality expensive Mexican Food 11/15/2007

Most really good Mexican restaurants are cheap and good. This restaurant manged to get it backwards and offer bad expensive food. This restaurant changed ownership a couple years ago and they are now called Rosa's La Cabana. \r \r I picked up 1 carnitas and 1 chicken burrito to go. Each burrito was over $8 and claimed to be filled with rice, beans, guacamole, chicken (or steak), pico de gallo salsa and topped with a red sauce. When I opened the container, the only thing in the burrito was beans, salsa and a few pieces of meat and it was completely dry (no red sauce on top). I took it back and they apologized and added what was listed on the menu. I took it back home and the burrito itself was disgusting. Their red sauce is really brown and has a weird taste to it. The best part was finding a huge piece of fat in the burrito. It was probably the size of my palm. When I took it back again, I was greeted with an attitude after showing them the piece of fat. They gave me back $7, but did so very hesitantly.\r \r I will not be eating here again. If you want good cheap Mexican food in the area, I would suggest El Burrito Jr. on PCH, Rosa's on PCH and Torrance blvd. or Mexican Riviera on PCH and Anza. Pros: Nothing really. Cons: Expensive, bad quality food, bad service, hole in the wall. more
