Ridiculous experience.... go elswhere..... 7/5/2011

Some of these reviews make Ron Tonkin Hyundai seem like Disneyland.... Almost like an employee wrote them.... Oh well.... Here's my experience, just the facts - When we began negotiations the price of the car was $41,000+ dollars on your first proposal. Come to find out and see with my own eyes the car was listed on Craigslist at $35,999 (not sure if it's legal to advertise something then try to seel it for more to an unknowning customer) two days later. On the third proposal I said 'yes' after the salesman returned from a visit with the sales manager and he indicated Ron Tonkin would pay for my requested bluetooth. He said, 'Do we have a deal?' I said, 'yes' and we shook hands. Only to find out after I came back from dinner that I was paying the $300, their cost as per our conversation, for the bluetooth. I was willing to look past this as I need a vehicle pronto and it was getting late!!! Then when I went in to sign the papers with financing I noticed the mileage on the vehicle was roughly listed at 1400 miles more than the proposal sheets had indicated (proposal sheet - 3300, actual - 4700). Financing and I had a quick discussion about this. Again I could have walked, but decided the need for a car outweighed the 1400 miles. Somehow after all three proposals had gone back and forth we endeed on the $35,999 listed on Craigslist!!! Somehow I believe they would have been just fine selling me the car for the $41,000+ had I said yes to the first offer. - While Getting my paper work together at home for my files I noticed 'custom wheels'($2500) listed in the price of the car on the Ron Tonkin sticker in which Ron Tonkin placed on the car. This was included in the price of the first offer presented to me at $41,000+. As far as I'm concerned it's part of the package for the car. I view the sticker indicating what comes with the car to be a receipt and I trust it is exactly what I am getting. On my end I was very clear, very honest, and up front about the transmission going out in the Volvo I traded-in. I have made the decision to contact the Better Business Bureau and give my opinion of Ron Tonkin Hyundai, with the facts as presented. I will also be contacting the DOJ for the state of Oregon to see if it is legal to sell a car or try to sell a car for more than you have it advertised for. Also, I will find out if what's listed on the car is legally required to actually come with the car. Should be interesting! Lastly, I will be writing a letter to the Ron Tonkin head office and we will see what they think. At this point I don't really think there is anything Ron Tonkin can do to make me feel better. The fact that I need to take time to properly deal with this is a bigger issue than the $2500 I was charged for the 'custom wheel'. Again.... I never received 'custom wheels', just the $2500 bill. I like the car and I am a pretty easy going guy. I just feel Ron Tonkin took advantage and was not as upfront with me as I was about my trade in vehicle. We will see what others think as well..... Have a good day!!! more

Bad experience 4/17/2011

Wonderful salesman Tanner. Horrible finance manager with the last name Early. VERY HIGH PRESSURE. Literally got in my face. Literally tried to FORCE me to buy the car I didn't want because of the color. Tried to sell me the "Northwest Package" for a $1,000 and GAP insurance then changed their story. This included calling it mandatory. I ended up walking out when the balled up the paper in my face, slammed down a new offer and pen in front of me yelling "Now sign." I am a big man and they tried very hard to intimidate me. Be very careful if you are female. Total Jeckle and Hyde routine. more

Everything went smoothly up until it came down to financing. I was told my credit score did not meet the standards for the apr I was expecting, and they instead were going to offer a higher rate. I told them I wasn't satisfied with the rate. They said they could "make some calls to the bank" and returned with a slightly lower rate. I still did not settle and left the dealership. Soon after, I did my own research and personally checked my score with the three major credit bureaus and discovered that they had LIED. My score is 70 points higher than what they claimed. I am glad to take my business elsewhere, lying doesn't fly in my book. PS: I am getting a fabulous rate by financing elsewhere where they don't lie :) more

Great experience - Fabulous car! 2/25/2011

Usually I get buyers remorse a couple days after buying a car, not this time. I did all the research on-line, they responded very quickly with email to my questions. Went to the dealership - they were friendly, well duh - they are salespeople! After the typical "no I don't want any of that extra crap", told em my price, and I bought the car. A fair and reasonable trade in. And now? - by far the most fun and enjoyable car I have ever owned - a new Hyundai fan! more

Best place to buy a car! They took care of us like family. Didn't feel like they were hounding us to buy a car. They helped us make a good investment in a reliable and safe vehicle for a great price! I will keep sending all my friends and family here! They are very laid back and friendly. They give the car buying experience a GOOD NAME! :) more

Best Car Buying Experience I have had 11/17/2010

We purchased a Hyundai from the above dealer. We had been looking for about 2 weeks. I have never been treated as well or had a car buying experience like this and I have bought my share of cars. Our salesman Tanner was wonderful. We felt like we were buying a car from our son rather than a salesman. He listened to us, heard us and did the best he could to make us happy. Our loan person Josh was exceptional as well. He spent extra time haggeling with the banks to get us the best possable rate. We will never buy a car from anywhere else as long as they continue to offer the service that they have. I am 54 years old and have purchased many cars, but my husband and I love our Elantra and feel it is the best car we have ever purchased. We just love the car and the dealership. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A CAR GO AND SEE THEM. YOU WILL LOVE IT. more

Best Experience Ever! 11/14/2010

Wow what a relief! I know I am not the only woman out there that is terrified of going to a car dealership by herself. You know what I'm talking about 5 guys open the door for you all talking to you at the same time and you just wanna run away fast! Well this is not the case at Ron Tonkin Hyundai. The dealership is by my house and I would drive past it twice everyday to and from work in my 13 yr old 4 door civic, as much as I love my old car it was time for a new one. The new Sonata is so beautiful and classy I just had to have it. I got a wild hair one day and pulled into the dealership and I even had my pre-planned all of my excuses , you know grandma is sick, just checking for a friend.. etc. I didn't end up using a single one of them. They were so helpful that I really didn't want to leave. They even gave me a good price on my trade in with out any pressure at all. They are the Nordstorm's of car dealerships for sure and I would recommend this place to everyone. more

great dealership for excellent deals 11/10/2010

i picked up a brand new hyundai sonata from Ron Tokin. The order went through without a hitch and it worked out cheaper than a few other local dealers in the area. They have great after sales service and we were allowed to test drive the car twice as this was our first car and we wanted make sure we were making the right choice. They were very understanding and helpful too. more

Love this place, love my new car! 11/2/2010

Great service, great dealership, great car!? - ? I am a senior citizen, and was not very excited about what I might encounter at a car dealership when I decided it was time to retire my 20 year old car. I drive by Ron Tonkin Hyundai often, and I'd seen a beautiful blue car sitting right in front when I drove by. Like it was meant for me! I decided to take a closer look, and ended up working with a young man named Dale and his boss, Mario. I ended up test driving that beautiful blue car, and decided to make it my own! Dale made the process fun, and didn't put a lot of pressure on me like I was afraid was going to happen. He was patient, and seemed more concerned about me getting the car I wanted, and feeling good about the choice, than he was about anything. He took my apprehension seriously, and put no pressure on me. He was very patient with this gal who isn't used to all the bells and whistles these new cars have these days. He wanted to be sure I knew how everything worked before I drove off. Everyone that was there that day seemed to be having fun. I got a great deal, a beautiful new Hyundai, and have been enjoying it ever since! I tell everyone who admires my car about where I got it, and I'll be taking my car back for service, and heck, I might even stop in and pester Dale while I'm there! more

Great Parts experience 10/19/2010

I recently broke the drivers side mirror on my Hyundai Sonata. I called around for pricing and availability and found just what I need at Tonkin Hyundai. They were able to have it painted to match and ready for installation so that I was able to come in and have it taken care of in one easy trip. The price was good but the people in the parts and service department were the best. I appreciate a business that respects my time and dollar. While I cross my fingers that nothing happens to my car again if it does I know who I will call. Thanks Ron Tonkin Hyundai! more

Great Dealership!! 9/7/2010

I live in Bend Oregon and had visited the dealership here in Bend. Didnt care of the customer service at all. Spent a weekend in Gresham and decided to stop by Ron Tonkin Hyundai just out of curiosity. A sales person approached me and I was very hesitant at first as I was only there to browse. I had no intention to purchase that day. The sales person was wonderful. Very knowledgeable, very honest and even had a great personality. Before I knew it I was making an offer. The offer was accepted and I was well on my way to purchasing a brand new vehicle. Even the finance manager went above and beyond to use the financing I wanted and get me the payments I was comfortable with within the time frame I was needing. I left that day in my brand new vehicle with great relief that I just happened to stop by and check the dealership out. I left with a smile on my face knowing that I received a very fair deal, from a very honest sales person with the help of a very strong willed financing manager! I have recommended this same dealership to several of my friends and family in Bend. I have a couple family members that have driven to the same dealership 3 hours away from home and returned with a new vehicle feeling the same way I did that day. more

Great Place to Buy a Car--Just Know How 6/10/2010

I had a dealer in Everett, WA that would give me about 10% off of Hyundai official website prices without asking because they knew how to do so, informed me of all the internal deals that were available on various cars, and applied no pressure. "This is what I can do this month." No one in a four-state area came close to their price. Some even couldn't figure out how to match their price. I was looking for a dealer that would sell me the best value car in the world (the Elantra) time and time again without hassle. So when I moved to Oregon, I looked for a new dealer that would deal the same way. I found that in Ron Tonkin. All car dealers are there to make money. So: o Know the car and options before you contact the dealer. The Hyundai web site is great for building the car you want do you don't waste the time of the sales team. But if you need the personal help, they will gladly provide it. o Negotiate a fair price for the car before you go. Have them send you a photo, car ID, and specs showing the options. o Don't pay more for options that you didn't ask for unless you change your mind and want them. A dealer can usually take 30% - 50% off of installed options delivered but not desired. If they don't, then have them get the car you want. o Be prepared to walk away from the deal (you can always go to my old dealer (Hyundai of Everett). But I don't think that will be needed. o Be prepared to wait a few months if Ron Tonkin can offer a better deal later. o They were fair on the trade-in (I was shocked). Check the Kelly blue book on trade-in before you go and personal resale values. By offering a fair value for my car, it saved me time and hassle of selling it myself. o In closing, the sales rep said, "You know you are taking us to the cleaners." Don't take that wrong. Interpret that as, "You saved us money by being prepared and not taking a lot of our time and we just passed that savings onto you. You helped us clear out inventory and you helped us meet sales targets. And yes, we made money or we would have said no. We’re are always happy to make a fair deal." o Treat the sales staff with respect. They work hard. They want repeat business. Never argue with or counter an offer. Just say yes or no (you can offer up what it’s worth to you or what you need, but move on). Also never show them all your cards. It's not that they will take advantage of you. It's that you will regret your actions later because you weren't strong enough to just say, "I'm thinking about it. It depends on the total deal." o Know that you never got the best possible deal. Only insiders do. Just make a deal that is fair and makes you feel like you were treated with respect. o They never withdrew an offer because it was secretly tied to something else. Options were options. I could pick and choose. That too surprised me and says a lot for Ron Tonkin. o They will offer expensive options at closing with high mark-ups. Every dealer I know does this. Don't be offended. Just say no (you can treat the cloth yourself for less than $100 or cover it for less than $200). o At the end, whether you finance or not, you will close the deal with a Finance manager. They will likely offer a greatly reduced price on the maintenance package ("at cost"). I've had four Hyundai cars. My total outlay on all four for uncovered items (after 60K miles) has been less than $1K. I personally wouldn't take an extended warrantee on these great cars for any more than $500. And the new ones keep getting better. But you need to make your own decision on that. o I spent 40 minutes negotiating by e-mails. Then I only spent two hours at the dealership closing the deal. o A free full tank of gas and I was off. o I'll be back when I buy my next car. Pros: Fun; Fast; Little pressure; Great price; Kept their promise; Cons: None more

bait and switch 12/23/2007

We asked a female sales associate of this company that we were interested in a Sonata they had advertised that had 300 miles. She asked the company sales manager if the car was available and he said yes it was. The car they brought for us to test drive did not have 300 miles it had 3,000 miles when we told the sales associate they had the wrong car she assured us that this was the right car. She also assured us that the car was new. We left this dealer and bought a car at another dealer Pros: none Cons: not honest more
