One summer a few years ago i ran across an ad for rocking j ranch camp. It sounded awesome and since i grew up with a horse i thought maybe my boys would like it. My boys and one of their friends did indeed go that summer. It was much more than just learning about horses. The did learn how to groom, feed, clean stalls, ride and all horsemanship stuff but truly they took away much more. They learned about themselves and caring for something outside of their regular world. My boys loved one week so much that somehow we made it possible for them to attend another session. Their friend, although he loved camp....moved on to something else that summer. . You see, my four kids didn't really go to camps....we did cool stuff everyday like playing outside, sweating, getting dirty but ahhhhh, horse camp was different and rocking j gave my boys a lifelong memory and valuable skills for life.sounds far fetched but its true. They got more from those two, hot, sweaty, dirty, FUN weeks than i can even say. My one son grew up and went to Idaho for awhile and became an outfitter, taking people on horseback to the Sawtooth mountains. This camp experience was invaluable to my kids and what they walked away with was respect for themselves and others, success, horsemanship, friendships and self reliance, self confidence. I believed it then and i believe in it now. It was an enriching, powerful experience.....not to mention awesome fun. more

Summer camps are great and the children get to learn what it really means to take care of a horse. So many places fill the time with games and crafts, but this horse camp is different. Daily trail rides, outdoor arena work including bareback, learning to tack up and groom and much more. Fun shows at the end of the week show the family how much their child has grown in their horsemanship skills. My daughter started at Rocking J camps four years ago and through Suzy's help, has matured into a solid rider and a good responsible horse person! If you want your child to attend a camp where they will learn the true meaning of taking care of a horse as well as riding and be with a staff that sincerely cares about him/her, Rocking J is the place. The atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable and friendly. The trails and the barn, pavillion and new deck are beautiful. It is a great place for parties, receptions, trail rides and camps. more

My 10 year old daughter has been attending Rocking J for two summers now and planS to go back this coming summer! This Camp is a very fun and great learning experience for kids. The campers have lovely, good broke horses, guided by friendly and knowledgeable staff. They train all week for a awesome horse show staring our kids at the end of the week!!! At the end of the day they get the opportunity to un-tack and groom their horses and spend some time with them. This camp is teaching kids what it really means to own a horse. Their daily duties include morning feeding, brushing, cleaning out hooves, saddling, riding lessons, and cleaning your horse s stall. Great for learning responsibility! THANKS ROCKING J RANCH!!!!!! more

As horse owners we like what this facility has to offer. We have kept our horses there for many years and would recommend it. We have never had a single issue that we were not able to resolve through open communication with the owners. \r \r The trails and riding arena are great. We certainly enjoy the pavilion, and the deck they just built last fall is a nice addition. The people are always friendly and helpful. It has a family atmosphere and is a good place for our kid. Looking forward to summer camp again!\r \r We agree with previous posters that it looks like someone has a grudge and is trying to make the ranch look bad rather than contact the owner. Shameful. We've been there many years and have never met a Jen W. She is certainly not a boarder there. It is obvious enough that someone is having others make comments for them. Shameful! more

My daughter's wedding reception was Oct. 6th at the RJR. It was perfect! Suzy was very helpful, accommodating and professional. The service was great and the food was excellent. Our guests had nothing but great things to say. They had a great time and an evening they will never forget. Most importantly, the bride and groom had the time of their lives. The only negative was hiring the recommended DJ-Owl Music. He was given a list of requested music in advance and we didn't find out until the event that he didn't have it. One of the guests had to hook his I-Phone up to the sound system to play some of the requested music. The DJ should have notified us in advance, or better yet, he should have downloaded the music ahead of time. However, this is no reflection on Suzy and her staff. I would not go with the DJ, but highly recommend the venue if you are looking for a western theme. They provided the catering, the tables, linen tableclothes, bon fire, horse rides for the kids, and just about anything else we wanted. The new face lift of the barn is especially awesome for pictures! This was a first class way to carry out our western themed reception! more

Stay Clear, Criminals Living on Property! 4/6/2012

Rocking J Ranch is by far the worst place you could ever take lessons, board, or have a party at. For starters the horses are all poorly taken care of. The only people that stay out there are the older ones who have boarded there forever and are just to careless to move; half of them don't even come out to ride or visit their horses. Two Suzy is never there and she does not even live in the house on the hill anymore. She lives in the house lower from the property and her house on the hill serves as a half way house for criminal/ felons did I mention she has no permit or anything legal stating she can do this... So yeah parents in case you didn't know now you do. I bet you will all feel safe knowing that are are criminals living in the house just feet from where your children ride. I would not write this is non of it was true; just trying to let parents and people know that if you want you or your children to have a safe and comfortable riding situation look more into where you do it; and stay clear of Rocking J! more

What I Wish I had when I was a Girl! 8/1/2010

The camps and trailrides, both offer what , I wish I could get when I was a girl. To be able to help get the horse out, groom him, saddle him, bond with the horse. Pros: Excellent horses, Kids comming back year after year more

personal experience 7/19/2010

I worked/volunteered for RJR for a year. My mom would take me at a drop of a dime any and every time I was needed. I worked there almost every single day, love the horses. I am now the proud owner of my own horse; which would have never happened if I didn't show my dedication and comittment to my parents working for RJR. Thanks for the opportunities given there. Pros: they work hard in improvments constantly more

well.... 6/20/2010

RJR does offer everything you need when it comes to arenas, trails, round pen etc, there's so much more to consider....how you'll be treated as a person and more importantly how your horse will be treated when no one is looking. As for the camps...watch an actual camp before making the final decision and see what you'll really be paying for. Owning a horse is a hard core, long time commitment, if you must board just be safe and shop around. Cons: You name it more

Thanks for making our summer fantastic! Summer Camp at RJR was simply the best. Kids never ate and sleep so well. And the stories they tell are amazing. They really felt like they own a horse. The Fun Show was a blast too. Thanks Susie at RJR for providing a fun and safe place for our family! The trails are lovely any time of the year and it's just like being in the country-- Beautiful trees and fun horses to ride! I recommend RJR to other families! Pros: Horses are fun! Not to far away. Cons: can't think of any... more
