We usually love this place, but last Friday night we were disappointed. The chef (who was not the owner) needs to be educated about "al dente". The fettuccini was so over-cooked, it was almost porridge! more

.....I went there with a group of friends few weeks ago....\r first of all the food was horrible...one of my friends ordered a seafood dish and ended up in the emergency room for food poisoning....I felt so bad with my friend because I was the one who suggested the restaurant.....\r then the service is the worst I ever experienced....the owner behavior is certifiable and finally the quality of food is not worted the overpriced bill that we received at the end....if you can, stay away from this place.... more

Everyone has opinions about what makes great Italian food great - and let's face it - there are literally a million Italian restaurants around. But when you get honest, home cooked Italian food, you KNOW it. And that's exactly what you'll get at Portovino, but hidden in an innocuous strip mall near the inter-coastal waterway. Yes, the service people are teenagers, and the owner sits on a couch watching TV when he isn't cooking, but so what! Do you want good food, or a phony Olive Garden corporate food experience. Do yourself a favor and go there - and order the Lasagna. You'll thank me. more

This family run miracle has been in existence for 2 or 3 years, and yet it remains a bit of a secret in North Miami/Aventura, primarily due to its' humble location. But it you want high-end Italian (read: home cooked) food, go directly there - tonight...... This is NOT reheated Olive Garden mush. For pasta, the Lasagna is magnificent, and several variations of homemade ravioli are on the menu almost every night. Seafood and meats are always prepared expertly. The appetizers are unique and well presented - I had the eggplant on a parmesan crisp - incredible. I usually frequent Circo or Trattoria Del Arte in New York, and the little Portovino is every bit as good, if not BETTER on certain nights. It is also half the price, with a reasonable selection of Italian table wines. Pros: Food - Incredible Food Cons: Location more

If you don't like authentic Italian food stay away from this place! Filippo is amazing in the kitchen!! \r I love their eggplant parmigiana, their broccoli souffle and their homemade pastas.\r Portovino is originally a family run place from Ferrara, italy. It's as Italian as it can get!! \r I seriously don't get how urbanspoon allows a person (Leslie, the reviewer below) to post twice different reviews for the same restaurant. more

The owner is too loud & his staff appears on edge. The servings are sparse. Atmosphere with a screechy kitchen call buzzer was very unpleasant more

Awful. The Salmon was about 2" X 4" and burnt. The fish was bitter from the burn. The spaghetti was under cooked. I always eat my pasta al dente. The ravioli was undercooked. The serve was jittery and more

Fabulous. The scallops melt in your mouth and the roasted garlic is to die for. Any weird fish Italian fanatic will love this place. Ben@weirdfishsurf.com more

This cozy restaurant serves up truly authentic Italian cuisine. The owners are from Tuscany and brought the real deal here. Specials are based on what fish was the freshest catch, served up with delightful sides. Everything including the pasta is from scratch. more
