Rio - Livin' in a Yuppy Paradise 4/16/2006

The Rio is a popular spot for yuppies and their spawn to spend their easily-earned dollars on manufactured Hollywood tripe. However, despite my cynicism, I must admit that if you can somehow ignore the construction across from the once trendy California Pizza Kitchen, it is a rather nice place to watch a movie. The chairs are comfortable, the parking is abundant, the prices are about average, and the movie selection actually surprises once in a while with a film worth seeing on the big screen. It is also quite easy to theater-hop or watch one movie after another without buying additional tickets. The only caveat I have, is that the movies play on two separate floors, and if you plan on hopping, you need to make sure that both movies are on the same floor as it is impossible to move between floors without passing the dreaded slack jawed teenage ticket tearer who shall promptly toss you out when it is discovered that your ticket stub is for a movie which started over six hours ago. more

2 Level Movie Theatres with Large Women's Restrooms 4/16/2006

Rio's Loews theatres, which span two levels, show most of the major blockbuster movies. The main thing is that the women's bathrooms are huge and clean, which can make a difference when movies let out at the same time. In general, the Rio Entertainment Center is a popular place to hang out, as it has a little of everything--shopping (Target, Barnes and Nobles), restaurants (Joe's Crab Shack, Romano's Macaroni Grill), and a lake to take walks. If you are looking for cute mom-and-pop shops and unique ethnic restaurants, this is not the place for you. The stores/restaurants are big box, corporate chains, the shopping center generic but nicely organized. more

Great place to take the kids 4/16/2006

This is a good place to take the family for a walk on the weekends. My family loves to walk around the lake and feed the ducks. There are tons of restaurants too to select from anything from Mexican, sandwiches, it'a great place. There is a movie theatre nearby, great place to take a date to at night. There is a two story Target and bookstore and my children love the ice cream parlor. more

Looking for a fun Saturday 12/27/2005

Almost every Saturday, if I am looking for something to do the first thing that comes to my mind is RIO! Its a great place, with the long walk through the park facing the lake, you have numerous options of things to do here. The movie theater with so many movies to choose from is one of my favorite theaters. With the delicious curly fries to get from their food court to start your movie, their comfy chairs and large theaters make it a wonderful place to be in. I recommend it to all, because with a beautiful setting, it's the perfect place for a Saturday evening. more

Great Setting and Location 12/21/2005

The Rio Entertainment Center is adjacent to a beautiful lake with swans and geese. Thus, coming to watch a movie enhances the beauty of this setting. Parking is very horrible though, as new shops and stores are constantly being built in that area. The tickets are pretty expensive, and have kept on rising. Usually, the theaters are very, very crowded too. more

A really big shopping center! 8/19/2005

This place is big and the parking garages are big. But that also means the parking there sucks. I hate going through that parking lot and there's more traffic in there than there is on I-270. My only other greivance is that the movie theater does not have any discounts. The lake is great to walk around after dinner and a movie though. more

Not Just For Movies 8/5/2005

This is usually the first place we come to see a movie. They are continually adding new restaurants, like Red Rock Canyon (worth checking out!). The best part about Rio is walking around during the summer time. They've done a much better job of making this a destination, as opposed to Kentlands, where the foot traffic is much lighter. The theaters are good, with more than enough options to choose from (although it'd be nice to see some independent movies come in, with all that space). Good sound, good pictuers, comfortable seats and usually a pretty well staffed and organized concession stand. more

Rio sure is entertaining! 6/29/2005

There's something for everyone at Rio Entertainment Center. The main attraction in the center is the Loews Movie Theatre, which has theaters on the first and second floor. There are several restaurants at the waterfront. The restaurants include Guapo's Cantina, Hamburger Hamlet, Tara Thai, and Cafe Spice (Indian), which is the newest addition to Rio. There is also a Sports and Health Club for people of all ages who are into fitness. The Gold Center offers brand name golf equipments at low prices. You can also rent paddle boats to cruise around in the lake in warmer seasons. During the summer time, there are free summer concert events every weekend evening/nights. There are usually a lot of people there. Which sometimes would make parking a bit a nuisance. They have added new parking structure nearby, and are still working on another one. Shopping and restaurants near the center have also been expanded with more options, such as California Pizza Kitchen, Potbelly's, ecco shoe store, etc. It's a great place to hang out with friends, or spend time with your family. more
