TOP NOTCH ITALIAN 4/22/2012

Living in NYC for 20 years and have frequented literally all the ?great restaurants? NYC has to offer. Italian restaurants are numerous through-out this city, so for them to be successful they have to really stand out to that of their competition. Rino Trattoria I?ve frequented for the last few years and for one reason?they do everything right! 1. Service is great! They?re are friendly, attentive and strive to make my dining experience a great one. 2. Food it?s amazing! I feel like I?m visiting Italy when I?m there. It?s all fresh, pasta and bread are all homemade and they don?t prepare the typical commercial dishes one finds in the majority of other places. 3. Wine list is amazing! It?s intelligent well thought out and very well priced with high quality non-commercial brands that you just don?t find at most Italian restaurants. This is a Trattoria by nature it?s family oriented and all about the food. If you?re looking for a ?scene? a place that is all about ?watch me watch you? with mediocre food and over priced wine, Rino will NOT BE FOR YOU which is why I come here! more

Amazing food, service and atmosphere 3/4/2011

Had two days in NYC. Passed Rino's after theatre matinee. Went in, on a hunch. Great ambience, but wow, we found everything was unexpectedly just perfect - the service, the food, the atmosphere, hard to find this combination anywhere. Beats ANY Italian restaurant, and we have dined in a lot of them. Where did we eat the second night? Why settle for less than the best - we went back to Rino's! more

Not Very Visitor Friendly 5/15/2010

We were referred to this restaurant as one that the locals frequented, where the service was excellant and the chef would be happy to prepare and serve dishes not listed on the menu. Maybe that is indeed the case for locals who dine there - but not for my sister-in-law and me. We arrived late, about 10 pm, after touring downtown. As we were travel weary and the hour was late, we decided to share an entree, vegetables, and a half carafe of wine. That decision must have offended the waiter as we received terrible service from that point on. There was a $2 service charge for 'sharing' posted on the menu - we were totally ok with that charge! The steamed vegetables were cold and the seafood pasta 'ok'. I just don't feel that we should be held hostage to the waiters expectations of 'what we should have ordered'. We left the establisment with very uncomfortable feelings. It was not a good experience. Pros: great bread Cons: service more

I don't know where to start, so I'll start at the beginning (always a good idea), when we came in on a warm and humid night and the place was hot as blazes. The front door was open, as was a large bay window in the front. I asked the manager about the lack of AC, and he said that the AC was on. I asked how effective it could be with the door and window open, and his replay was ""that's how we've been doing it for the past 20 years. Next, I noticed how the prices listed on the restaurant's web site bore no resemblance to the menu at the restaurant. For example, the grilled veal chop on the web site is $22.95, but at the restaurant it's $27.95. Other items were similarly incorrect. Speaking of the veal chop, when I asked the waiter to describe the type of chop, he told me (at 6PM) that they didn't have any available because of a ""large party."" My pasta was good, once it was returned to the kitchen and brought back with the right sauce. My veal franchaise was terribly over salted, though the veal itself was tender and well cooked. And yes, the bread was very good. Service, not so much. Pros: Too few to mention Cons: Just about everything more

Delicious Italian Restaurant in theatre district 6/3/2009

The Pinot Grigio the waiter chose was rather nice. The bread was so amazing that my mother ate 7 pieces before the calamari appetizer. The calamari was the most tender we ever tasted. We all had homemade pasta dishes which were very tasty. We finished with regular coffee which was amazing,a cappucino which was very good.Desert was Italian cheesecake so so yummy.A very good dining experience. Pros: Superb food for good value more

Editorial review from GrubHub 12/21/2008

I have been to this restaurant in person a few time and the food is good - the delivery was early which was great and the food was scrumptious could have been hotter but it only took a couple of minutes to sort that out\r Portions good and bread butter and parmesan provided - well packaged too - great\r \r Can't see hoe to write another review on here but the last order was great tasty, hot and perfect more

i'm not sure if i would come back 11/29/2008

One of the Best restaurants I Have Reviewed 11/10/2008

I found this by researching City Search and Trip Advisor. This restaurant has it all, service, personality , reasonable wine prices, killer food. Frequented by locals who are regulars. You never want to miss a place like this when visiting a city. Very good overall price/value rating. Sicilian cooking with great sauces. You feel like you are eating with the family. Pros: Everything Cons: I cannot eat there once a week more

Very friendly place with great food and superior service. 6/24/2007

My wife and I ate here on June 18th, and had a wonderful meal. We felt as if were eating with the family. Pros: Everything Cons: No liquor, only beer and wine. more

Best Italian I have ever had 5/1/2007

This place is soooo good. Everything from salad to dessert. Homemade pasta and bread - not for weight watchers - but hey if you're on holiday why not? The service was quick and helpful. One of the owners was there and he came over and chatted with us and made us feel welcome. The value far outweighs the reasonable price. Go to this restaurant. Pros: The food Cons: That I don't live near this restaurant more

Great little place for dinner before theater 1/23/2007

We found this restaurant while searching on Citysearch for a place to eat before the theatre. Everyone gave it a good review and they were correct. Small place, not crowded when we arrived, but by the time we left it was full. The food was delicious with many choices, the service was good, although they did forget about us towards the end of the meal. Prices were reasonable for the city. We do recommend not sitting against the wall in the back, or you will hear people going to the restroom during your meal. Other than that, all in all a good experience. Pros: great food, reasonable prices more

Delicious 12/16/2006

This place is great. Excellent italian comfort food. Not fancy but the food is amazing. I've lived in the neighborhood for seven years and can't believe that I just ate here for the first time a month ago - and it was my Mother who lives in Chicago who actually suggested it. She loved it too. Lots of tourists in there so that keeps all the NY'ers away - too bad - they don't know what they are missing. Pros: Excellent food - doesn't try to be fancy - great prices Cons: tourists more

Bad service...Not bad food 12/11/2006

To be honest...the food there is really not bad...above average...consider the price...However, the service is really bad...the pizza we order came uncut...when we asked the waiter to take it back and cut it for us...He had to pull the pizza to confirm that it was not cut in front of us! Like that we have reason to lie to him! And be careful when u charge ur card! they typed one more zero and made our bill from $178 to $1780 and forgot to void it! more

It was awesome 5/10/2006

This restaurant was beyond our expectations. We went with a group of 15 women who love to have a nice meal. The waiters went out oftheir way to meet our dinign needs. the food was outstanding and it did not break the pocketbook even with acouple of glasses of wine. Highly recommended. Make reservations if you are a group of 4 or more. Fills up quickly after a play. Pros: Price just right, great service, food outstanding Cons: small more

A Gem 1/14/2006

I eat here frequently because the food and service are consistently terrific. Restaurant is small but not cramped. Thin-crust pizza is yummy but I generally opt for the chicken, fish or pasta dishes. My favorite is the chicken parmesean -- I know . . . so mundane -- but Rino's take on the comfort-food classic is perfect. Chicken is moist and not overwhelmed by the sauce and cheese. I usually ask for an angel hair pasta side instead of potatoes and veggies. Ambience is not elegant but, for me, the food and service win out over mood lighting and hip flower arrangements. Pros: classic menu, inexpensive, attentive service Cons: decor more

Rinno Rocks!! 7/27/2004

Probably one of the most underated places in NYC. Fantatsic thin crust pizza and great chicken, veal and pasta dishes. Service is very attentive; this place can't be beat; go and you won't be disappointed! Pros: Great food, Fair price, Very good service more

Good, Reasonably Priced Italian Food 7/4/2004

We ate here after seeing a play recently and we were very happy with the food, service, atmosphere and price. Conveniently located near Theater District, it was one block away from Neil Simon Theater. Small restaurant, open to street on 8th avenue. I had Filet Mignon, my daughters had pasta and caesar salads. My wife had swordfish and salad. I had two glasses of wine. Cost $110. Can't beat it. Pros: good food, inexpensive, great service more
