Ringlers Annex

We are new to Portland and excited to try new places. We were excited when we first entered this little bar; especially when the drinks were so yummy with fresh squeezed juice. The service; however was subpar. One bartender was especially rude to our party. She made several rude comments when we did not order copious amounts of alcohol as well as rolled her eyes at us several times. Several member of our party have been in the food service industry for years. It was the first time the majority of us felt that we should not tip and that complaints should be lodged. The kicker was we asked for a book of matches...twice...due to the bartender handing us a book of matches with 3 matches in it and then a second book that was also quite empty! more

I had no idea Ringlers had music and dancing on Saturday nights! We had a great time. There was no cover charge, the drinks were reasonably priced and the music was pretty good. The dance floor was pretty small, but fun! Pros: inexpensive, fun crowd Cons: small dance floor more

All of the food on the entire menu is only $3.50 - a great variety of typical McMenamins fare (salads, sandwiches, burgers). The cocktails are reasonably priced, too. I had an amaretto espresso concoction that was absolutely divine, especially considering the chilly evening. The cosmo was splendid as well. I stumbled upon the Annex when I first moved here from NYC. The subway-like stair entrance to the basement lured me in. Inside I found fantastic fresh-squezed cocktails and friendly servers. They offer a great liquor selection (including my favorite vodka-grey goose) and all of their cocktails contain fresh squeezed juice. I highly recommend the Tuaca Sidecar or Cosmo. The ambience is dark and inviting and the art shows and DJs are a welcome addition to this wonderful bar. I like the upstairs when I am alone to people watch, and the downstairs when I am with friends. How do you have a Port & Cigar Bar that does not allow cigar smoking?! The service is awful and two different ports that our table tried had oxidized (now, high quality vinegar!). Crowded, cramped and dark, this place has all the alure of a storm cellar. What a joke. Go up the street to Ringler's/Crystal Ballroom, it is a far better place!
