I had been a client at RM for awhile, always going to Leslie for my cut & BKT & Akemi for my color. When I called this week to schedule my monthly appointment, I was really sorry...

JOSE Jose Jose! He is the best colorist! I came in with a not so happy brassy looking head of hair and he transformed it into this beautiful auburn color. It looks like I have natural highlights BUT he only did one solid color or what he called a single process. I have never received so many compliments on my hair color until now. He is my to go to guy!!!! more

A friend recommended this place to me but when I read Gina's review below, I had second thoughts. But I trusted my friend and went and I’m so glad I did because my hair turned out a beautiful light brown (without the red I hate) with some glowing blond lines (instead of streaks). Indeed I was so pleased that I think her review was actually written by a jealous owner of another salon. When I went in, I told the receptionist I wanted to see the products they use and she sent me right over to Akemi, their color specialist, who opened all the cabinets and showed me everything (and I recognized the labels as high end salon stuff). And when I asked her if anyone at the salon uses heat to process color, she looked at me like I was crazy and said, Of course not!. She did a fabulous job on my hair. And I thought the other colorists’ work was excellent too. So I’m recommending this place as the best I’ve gone to (and I’ve gone to many). more

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/30/2013

When I went to this place for the first time this morning, I was nervous because it looked “fancy” and intimidating. (It’s on Lex and 57th which is a very “high priced” neighborhood.) But my friend gets her hair colored and cut there and I love the way it looks so I booked an appointment with the people she uses. The colorist, Akemi, is a darling and she did magic with my hair. I’m all grey and white and I’ve been straightening it for years so the color is blah. She performed some kind of miracle and made it a rich light brown with some gold strands that weren’t streaks. (She said it was balayage [sp?].) The stylist, whose name is Ernie, was like an artist. He examined my hair from every angle, felt it all over, and then told me what he could and could not do. (His honesty was refreshing.) And he gave me a terrific haircut. I'm really pleased. It’s not cheap but it’s well worth the price to me. And everyone was very friendly, which is very important to me. more

I had my hair colored at Riccardo Maggiore Salon. I always had to put my hair under heat for the color to take. One time I noticed that the color did not take at all. I started to think that the dye that they were using was not of the best quality. I went to another salon, the color dye that the new salon used colored my hair without any heat being applied. The new salon told me that the heat with the chemicals was not good for my scalp. I'm glad that I left Riccardo Maggiore salon-I'm sorry that I did not leave sooner –I'm concerned that the chemicals and heat damaged my scalp.\r \r \r \r \r more

Akemi is the best colorist in the city 9/21/2012

I am not exaggerating when I say that Akemi is the best colorist in the city. I will follow her wherever she goes because she is extraordinarily knowledgeable and talented. I?m 61 years old and have my hair chemically straightened every four months, yet it looks fantastic thanks to Akemi?s ability to subtly change the color (and paint single strands of hair slightly lighter color). Every time I see her, she examines my hair?s color and texture in order to decide what to apply. And she?s a darling sweetheart and a good listener. more

Adrianna is an impeccable stylist and colorist. She listens to what I want, and aims to please, while at the same time offering her professional input as to what she thinks is best for not only the look she is giving me, but the health of my hair. She is also an incredibly sweet and down to earth lady, who makes every visit an absolute joy! I am thrilled to have found her, and highly recommend her to all for color, cut and other treatments. She does it all, and she does it all beautifully. more

J. Mari is the BEST! 2/23/2012

J. has been my stylist for many years. She is as talented as it gets. Newly added to her repitoire, she has created a holistic hair treatment which is beyond amazing. Here is what you get for a limited time price of $135\r \r Step 1- An assessment of your hair, it's texture, its regular routine and what your goal is.\r Step 2- The first deep conditioning treatment is generously applied to every inch of the hair.\r Step 3- You are escorted to the sink where the next conditioning treatment is applied to the hair.\r Step 4- An incredible, holistic pressure point scalp massage gently applied sending you off to complete bliss. \r *This part of the session is where the healing aspect of the treatment takes place. There are pressure points on the head and when stimulated, send energy into every hair follicle, essentially 'feeding' the hair. Aside from it feeling amazing, it truly nourishes the hair in ways unimaginable. After that, J. will perform a chakra reading which is a form of energy work which helps to balance the entire body.\r Step 5- The final conditioning treatment is applied, rinsed and gently towel dried.\r Step 6- Your haircut of choice giving by J. Mari, one of the most sought after hair stylists in NYC. She has worked with top notch celebrities, designers and has been written up in multiple magazines for her outstanding talent.\r Step 7- Your blow out and style. Once this is done, you will see and feel the amazing transformation to your hair AND your entire body. This treatment will make you feel beautiful inside and out and leave your hair feeling baby soft.\r \r Run, don't walk! This is one treatment you don't want to miss!\r \r more

Best Cuts, Color, & Straightening in NY and very friendly 9/16/2010

I feel blessed at having found two people who are consistently able to my frizzy, wiry, ugly gray hair to look smooth, shiny, and healthy. Before I found AKIMI, the genius colorist at this salon, my hair color was dreadful. My hair has been straightened with every process that ever existed and it was burnt and porous, so no colorist could ever get the color to look “even” or natural. But Akimi said she could--and she did! She’s wonderfully obsessive about getting color “right”: whenever you see her, she examines your hair carefully and then tells you the extent to which she can achieve the color or highlights you want, based on the current color and condition of your hair. (And even better, she’s very gracious and friendly.)\r \r And there aren’t enough superlatives in the language to praise RICCARDO (who’s nothing like I expected the owner of a very upscale Manhattan salon to be; he’s a sweetheart who makes everyone feel comfortable). On my first visit, he figured out my problem: The Keratin Treatment my stylist was giving me every few months was a waste of money because it can’t smooth out hair as frizzy and kinky as mine, and worse, these treatment has burned my hair. So he recommended a new kind of thermal straightening (like the “Japanese” one but much quicker and healthier). I was very nervous about it, but afterwards, I was thrilled at how beautiful my hair looked (and continues to look three months later). Riccardo is magical.\r \r By the way, the person who faulted the salon because she had to blow her own hair obviously doesn’t go to “high end” salons or else she’d know that this policy is true at every “good” hair salon in NYC. The stylists and colorists at these salons are entitled to the large fees they charge because they are the very best in the profession (which is why they’re in such demand). Expecting them to do an additional service (like a blowout) for free is naive and inappropriate. Maybe stylists in local salons or those who aren’t truly expert provide this service for free, but they probably have to in order to keep or attract business. Regardless, the bottom line is always that you get what you pay for. If you want to go to a cheaper salon because they include the price of a blowout in the price of the service, go there. Just don’t expect the results that people who go to Riccardo Maggiore always get. more

Fantastic colorist!!! 9/11/2010

I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair! I followed Adrianna from another salon, and I have to say, she is incredible. She takes time to understand exactly what you're looking for and her attention to detail is amazing. I've gone from blonde, to chestnut, to red...all of which I have loved. She is fantastic!!\r \r The salon is nice - very relaxing. Seems like you are stepping outside of Manhattan. It's a little tricky to find, but it's worth it. The staff is lovely.\r \r more

I had to do my own blow drying... tha'ts outrageous! 7/10/2010

The salon itself is beautiful. However, when I first walked in, the staff automatically assumed that I was a hair model and was there for future stylists to practice on me. Marina did my highlights She was nice, but told me I had to blow dry my hair on my own! Even my friends who are hairstylists can't blow dry their own hair (because it's harder when you are blow drying your own hair). When I tell some people who I know about this experience, they don't believe me, but it is so true. Otherwise I would not waste my time writing this review. Pros: Location Cons: Most staff more

Akemi is the best in NYC for hair color 3/24/2010

Akemi is the best hair color stylist in NY. I should know because I have been getting my dark ash blonde hair made into a better brighter gold blonde by her for many years now and I have even followed her to this salon. Her eye for color and mixing what you need is not matched at other places. One can become a fake yellow blonde at any salon in the city but to get a natural look is another story. People often come up to me to ask where I got my hair styled but say your color is natural of course! Akemi is also a delightful positive person and is flexible appointment wise when you need a quick fix. She is not expensive and totally worth every penny. Pros: Best hair color for your skin and look, nice looking salon Cons: Need to tip to store your coat more

Riccardo Maggiore Is a Hair Genius. He's the Best! 12/16/2009

I went to Riccardo himself for a new look. I went with my sister for moral support. I hadn't changed my look in 5 years. We both ended up getting new looks. After the birth of my baby my hair was limp and was falling out. Riccardo gave me an amazing cut and the right products for my hair including hair vitamins. My sister on the other hand had curly frizzy hair. She got the Brazilian Keratin treatment and a Hair cut. We both look great. In fact, we looked so good we went out for dinner afterwards because we just couldn't go home when we looked that good. Thanks Riccardo, your a genius. more

Sorry to see Leslie go! 12/15/2009

I had been a client at RM for awhile, always going to Leslie for my cut & BKT & Akemi for my color. When I called this week to schedule my monthly appointment, I was really sorry to be told that Leslie is no longer with RM. The rude receptionist was not even gracious enough to let me know where I could contact Leslie. Luckily, I did some research on the internet and was able to locate him at his new digs, Capelli D'oro on Fifth, where he did his thing beautiful as usual. Pros: free coffee Cons: overpriced & senior citizen oriented. more

Brazillian Keratin Treatment 6/22/2009

Leslie Correa delivers what he promises! I have been a client of Leslie's for 3 years and continue to enjoy astounding results. My hair, once extremely curly, frizzy and a nightmare to deal with every day, has been transformed into a sleek and chic style that I always envisioned myself having. Not only do Leslie and his colleagues produce straight silky hair with their expert Brazilian Keratin treatment techniques, they offer life and depth to my hair each appointment with subtle highlights and a stylish cut. I am always 100% satisfied with the results and Leslie's talents as a stylist. Prices are also moderate but well worth it. I'll be returning this month and can't wait! Pros: Leslie can transform your hair more

Picasso of Hair Color 5/12/2009

Akimi has been my colorist for 15+ years. She is by far the most talented hair colorist. She looks at my skintone and determines how light/dark, whether I need hi lights, eyebrows lightened, etc. I am fortunate to have such talent and a gentle and sensitive, respectful personality. I adore Akimi. You will too. Pros: Akimi is here more

The best colorist and stylist hands down--Antonio! 5/4/2009

Firstly, I am not one to usually write review---but I am so impressed that I have to take the time to explain my experience at the Riccaardo Maggiore salon. I am not a stranger to higher end salons in New York. After having a terrible experience at a salon I have been a patron for over two years (over-processed highlights resulting in breakage)?I spent a good part of the winter just looking for a new place to color and style my hair.\r After sifting through citysearch reviews, I booked an appointment for highlights and cut. I have fairly long curly hair and am always petrified of the scissor-happy stylist.\r My colorist and stylist was Antonio. After warmly welcoming my mother and I (who was also there for color and a cut), he started his consultation. Initially, I was shocked when he stated that he was not going to use bleach for my highlights. I naturally have medium brown hair and kept thinking I was going to walk out as a redhead. Not so. My color is simply remarkable?there are no other words.\r I am also extremely pleased with the cut ?for curly girls afraid of the scissor and blonds sick of being brassy?Antonio can quite honestly transform your hair.\r The staff is warm and friendly (no pretentiousness here) and prices are reasonable for the service and attentiveness you receive. \r Pros: Attentive staff, conveiant location more

LESLIE CORREA IS THE BEST! 2/25/2009

Leslie has been doing my hair for years. I followed him to this new location. Its in a great area, with lots of space. Leslie is amazing! He has done Japanese straightening on my hair several times with beautiful results. His cuts, color, and styling are fantastic. Prices are very reasonable for such top-quality service. He is a very intuitive, expressive, and caring person who will spend a lot of time fully explaining everything to you and putting you at ease before he does anything to your hair. I've been to the best stylists in both New York and L.A. and nobody else can hold a candle to him. He also offers Great Lengths hair extensions. I've seen pictures of his work with these & you can't even tell they are extensions, they look so natural. I am getting this service done sometime next year & will update my review then. Leslie advised me to get my hair in the best possible shape before getting them. He has very high integrity. Pros: be sure to request Leslie and you will leave looking gorgeous & feeling happy! more
