For us, there is no greater responsibility than honoring and preserving the story of one's life.. Resthaven Funeral Home opened in 1979 on the northeast corner of Resthaven Memorial Park by Neill E. and Mary E. Wiley. Resthaven was and remains Shawnee's only funeral home with an on-site cemetery. Neill and Mary Wiley were active members of the Shawnee community and devoted countless hours to improving the community. They raised their family in the house next door to the funeral home. You can still find the children's hand prints in the sidewalks and driveways around the funeral home. The Wileys' hard work and dedication to serving the community established Resthaven as the premier funeral home in Pottawatomie County. In 2001,the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce honored the legacy of the Wileys by establishing the annual 'Neill and Mary Wiley Award,' which recognizes an outstanding volunteer in the community. In 2006,Resthaven merged with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home. Many pieces of Gaskill-Owens' antique furniture, paintings, and other memorabilia were moved to Resthaven and are on display in our remodeled family gathering room. Gaskill-Owens' ledger books dating back to the 1920s are among the most interesting artifacts. Today,Resthaven is proud to be part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. We combine the charm and rich heritage of a small-town funeral home with the benefits of being a member of the largest and most trusted network of funeral, cremation and memorialization service.
