In the first of our 2011 season of reviews, we entered the sparsely adorned eatery and met the waitress and owner. After explaining our new review process, they recommended the Omelets along with the pancakes, eggs and other breakfast foods. As promised, we took their advise and opted for the Meat, Veggie and Cheese omelet as well as a stack of pancakes to share.
The 3 egg based creation included "chub" sausage links from Nappies Food Service, crisp green pepper, onion, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and home fries. This was all IN the omelet!
The standard fare sausage was thinly sliced 3/4" diameter links, the veggies were nicely cooked, and the home fries were well done. We could not find evidence of the cheddar cheese in the omelet and wondered aloud if someone had moved the cheese. We were assured that it was in there. Overall, we were not overly impressed with the omelet but we did not go away hungry. It was a manly portion and a nice presentation.
The rye toast was a highlight because it was hearth baked and was adorned with butter, honey, and/or a variety of jelly. The coffee was hot (135 deg.) and flavorful at 2.5 on the 4 FOO meter. Pancakes were thin and tender but not fluffy and (interestingly enough) were cooked on only one side.
The service, friendliness and price were great. We enjoyed our time.
SOME RECOMMENDATIONS:
Put some more cheese in the omelet. It will make it gooey and add some needed flavor.
Cook the pancakes on both sides. They will look a lot better!
Get a better quality sausage. People will pay more for the quality. A product made at a local butcher would be great!
Spruce up the place with some color, booths, pictures etc. It is nice and clean but bland.
