Regina's is a neighborhood institution. It is one of the few family owned candy shops still in business. Named after the original owner's wife, the shop is currently run by Regina's son.
Regina's stocks a full range of traditional favorites, but the star of the show is their homemade candy. If your a fan of peanut brittle, Regina's is the place for you. The owner makes it in the back of the store in gigantic copper kettles. He spreads the brittle out on gigantic marble slats to cool. In between coolings, he stretches the steaming concoction out using bare arms and hands. Asked if he ever gets burnt, the owner cheerfully replied "the first few times".
Regina's has the best prices on chocolates in town. Make sure to select your own pieces. I'm a big fan of the dark chocolate covered marzipan.
Every year around Halloween, Regina's offers guided tours. The shop is small, but the tours aren't to be missed. Everyone gets a generous sample of hot peanut brittle.
