Redemption Cocktail Lounge and Cafe

This place is horrible. I ordered some drinks for me an a friend and spend the time listening to him vent about work while he nurses his drink. Being I'm looking after my friend I finish my drinks and let him nurse his for the rest of the night. He finally orders another round for us after being there close to an hour so I figure, hey easy night, he's done and we've had 4 drinks total. When I go to pay the bill the bartender charges us two extra drinks. I bring it to her attention and she caused a scene. I'm an older guy and didn't feel like getting into it with the anxious bouncers and my friend was completely done, being he's a two drink wonder, so I payed for the error. I was saddened by the lack of responsibility the young lady took for her mistake. The staff need to be more competent and less critical of their shortcomings. I've never seen such arrogance over a simple arithmetic error. more

I love this place! Been going here for years, bartenders change, chef changes, but the food is always great!! Best Bar Food in NY!! Lunch is great!! They have drinks specials!! WooHoo!! more

a few nights ago i went into redemption with some friends, it would be an understatement if i say i "got a bit drunk." i ended up leaving my purse (phone, wallet, credit cards, money, camera, etc..) at the bar when we left. in the frantic search to retrace my steps from the night before to try and relocate it, a call to redemption settled my worries. they had my purse!! when i went to retrieve it, i could not believe EVERYTHING was still in there. not a dime stolen...the girl who brought the purse to me said a bus boy turned it in. i cant imagine this happening often, usually i am not so lucky. but thank god for the staff at redemption for being beyond helpful in finding, holding, and returning my purse for me!! life savers!! This bar is always a fun place to be, with the friendly employees and great music always playing, Its never overwhelming or abnoxious. I love coming here with friends or a boy :) The hummus and spniach dip is my favorite, but the food is suprisingly aweome for a bar. I love coming to Redemption for Brunch. They have a great menu and a great brunch deal. $20 with 2 mimosas! I have never had to wait long to get a table and the service is always great. I also have come in after work for the happy hour. The bar is always full. There are usually more men than women which is always a plus for me. Even when the bar is crazy, the waitress and bartenders still get drinks in an efficient manner. Plus the cocktails never taste watered down. Bottom line is; its a great after work bar, with the bonus of having an excellent brunch! Pros: Good food, music, and drinks Cons: can get crowded more

I really love redemption and they have never let me down. It's the bar I always go to or take my friend's to when we can't figure out where to go. It's a cute bar, not dingy. Nice looking crowd but not uncomfortably posh/trendy. The staff is always nice, no cover and there is never a dumb line to get it, though sometimes it does get too crowded. I have never eaten the food there but the drinks are made well. The best thing about this place is the great music. They always have a great mix going and while there isn't really a dance floor, people are usually dancing. After living on the East Side of Manhattan for 3 years now, Redemption has never once disappointed me. I used to live in the neighborhood of Turtle Bay, but even after I moved to the UES I continue to come back to Redemption. The atmosphere is classy and sophisticated, but the drinks are not over priced. Plus, their weekly specials are crazy good deals. I've also taken clients to dinner there and we always rave about the food - SO much better than dingy bar food! And if it's not the prices or food or atmosphere that you're worried about, ladies I urge you to come check out the MENNNNN. I've never stood at the bar for more than 5 min without a guy offering to buy me a drink. But the guys are never sleezy like in other places - it's all respectable Manhattan businessmen and locals. I've met several of my boyfriends at redemption ;) OH! And I threw my best friend's surprise birthday party there last year in their private White Room - she absolutely loved it. I was able to purchase trays of food ahead of time, and they didn't even charge me to rent the room! Yo! This Party Place is off the chain! We rolled in about 6 people deep and texted all our friends to get down to redemption. By nights end, we were 18 people thick. This Halloween party was popping! the chicks are unreal. They hire the best looking staff and dopest crowd ever. I mean crazy hot girls and cheap strong drinks. The music is hands down, better than any club in Jersey or Long Island. I haven't been to that many NYC clubs but this Jessica Simpson look a like girl rocked it. I heard Halloween in Manhattan is supposed to be off the chain, but this was way over our expectations. Yo-if this place does it like this on other nights besides halloween, they're the greatest club out there. We all hooked up, got our drink on, and partied like rock stars. They don't buy anything back, add the gratuity onto you bill, and hope that you are drunk enough so that you won't notice. They had no coat check last Friday and it was freezing and raining, but the manager was nice enough to take our coats and put in his office. It was also cramped. The bartenders aren't especially friendly but they apparently produced a sweet calendar. more

Redemption is a bit of a twist btwn modern bar/Irish bar but, it does it well. Happy hour specials include $5 martinis of some sort and beers. The times I've been there wait service has been nothing but nice. Although, I disapprove of the obvious management imposed dress code for cocktail waitresses (which I'm sure is geared at all the hard-working males in midtown east), I still like the place. I would change that fun fact but, otherwise, I'm happy. more

So I get to Redemption for a real good friend's 24th birthday party. The price was right, the drinks were good, and the atmosphere excellent. The night was going awesome, until this joke of a manager made his appearance. I was at an open bar from 9-1, and I had some friends meeting around 12, who obviously weren't going to pay the 40$ for an open bar. I asked the manager if they can come up to our area, and he gets all aggressive and goes "NO BRACELET, NOT ENTRY". I responded kindly, " This is one of my best friend's birthday parties, and I don't want to just hang out at the bar with my other friends". He responded, "Then go somewhere else". Ok, so here I am, spending money at your bar along with all my friends, and you have the nerve to be a completely rude to me when I'm just trying to have fun, and give the bar more business. Where is this guy from? Who would ever trust him with their property and business? He must the owner's nephew or something like that. He was also flirting with all the girls, and was obviously trashed. Apparently this bar doesn't need my money, so i will never go back their again. They potentially missed out on god knows how much more money from me and my friends in the years to come ( If this place manages to stay open that long). Advice to the owner: can this waste of space, he couldn't run a lemonade stand in the desert, or even if he did, he'd probably turn customers away. Pros: Everything Cons: Manager more

I've had two consecutive birthday celebrations here. The first one was average, went off without a hitch. The second one started with a hitch. - They hadn't gotten the private room ready for my party which really annoyed me. BUT they made a great comeback, with their excellent waitress (I feel terrible for forgetting her name) and quick clean up of the private room. The renovated room is SO cosy, comfortable and great for parties of around 30. Totally recommend going there!!! more

I've been a patron of Redemption several times. On Friday 9/28/2007, I met a group of mixed friends (black and white) at the bar. We were astounded at the blatant 'profiling' that occurred. There were several gentlemen in the restaurant wearing hats. However, my friend (black) was singled out and asked to remove his. When we asked the manager to show us any indication of a public posting baring hats, he became truculent. When we asked him why the other custormers were not asked to remove their hats, he became even more belligerent. The irony is that he asked the bouncer (black) to carry out actions (asking us to leave) that were clearly motivated by race. No self-respecting minority should even consider going to Redemption. Moreover, any caucasian patrons that frequent this place should realize they are supporting bigotry and antiquated ideologies that belong to a bygone era in US history. more

O.M.G.!!!!!!!! I am a total club girl (love Webster Hall) but this place is the BEST! The food is yummy and talk about hotties! O.M.G.!!! Check out the owners- 2 DIE 4. The owners are sooooo nice also- always buying us drinks. Forget the clubs- this is the only place I will spend my daddy's $$ and I won't dare venture to any other bar. And talk about class- this place has it all and then some. All the guys in their suits are so cute, that I don't mind giving out my # to them. I just have so much fun when I'm here.
