Unbeliavable! 1/21/2010

Wanted to share- now that they have those huge special saving prices I go there twice a week- they are super nice, which is very refreshing for SOHO- atmosphere is very relaxing and welcoming, soft music, tons of flowers and they even serve organic hot teas! Facials are the best in town and i always go for customized one-their staff is doing a superior job, no irritation, fast and gorgeous. Massages are my absolute favorite- they have that hot stone one- a real treat in the middle of winter! Highly recommend to everyone!Ask for specials:) more

slow and messy Brazilian 5/17/2009

It’s a cute little spa but the Brazilian I got there recently was below average. The woman who did the Brazilian was very slow and pulled the strips too gently and slowly. It took her at least 30 min to do the job, and she still left strands of hair and even a couple small bruises. Also, it seemed that the wax wasn’t warm enough because it was too sticky and didn’t spread well; as a result the irritation was worse than usual. After the procedure, she put way too much oil and lotion on me; I also got an oily stain on my t-shirt and wax residue on my legs although she didn’t wax them. I know places where they do a much better and cleaner job in half the time and about the same price. Pros: decor, polite staff Cons: bad brazilian more

Great Services: Check, Great Atmosphere: Not Quite So Much 2/20/2009

I actually went w/ a friend back in 8/2008. I booked a mani & facial & my friend booked a pedi. All were great services. My friend was very happy w/ the pedi & I was very happy w/ the mani. The same woman did the mani/pedi. She was super friendly and I liked that she wasn't very chatty but knew when to make conversation. The facial was great - I had never had one before (or since so I can't accurately compare their services to say - another spa facial I've had) There are 2 cons about the facial. 1: The room is super tiny 2: The facial room is up front. Literally the wall in the waiting area is the bordering wall of the facial room. I could hear everything going on at the front desk, everything being said in the waiting area, and everytime the phone rang so it didn't make for the most relaxing experience. If you don't care about the relaxing part of the spa experience I would recommend this spa for a facial any day (but even if the relaxation thing is a deal breaker I would still recommend mani/pedi's bc those stations are at the back - so it's quiet and relaxing) One other con: The woman doing my facial convinced me to do another facial more suited to my skin type. In fact she basically told me that she was going to do it and didn't ask permission. Surprise, surprise it equaled out to more money. Even though this didn't make me happy and I can't be sure the different facial wasn't a con to get more money, I DID notice a visible improvement in my skin for the next few weeks. Bottom line if I need something done I'd go back, but if I'm trying to make it a relaxing girl's day I think I'd look elsewhere. I gave Red&White 4 stars though because I did enjoy the quality of their work. Hope this helps someone! P.S. - The most recent review mentioned snacks/wine/tea. I never saw this and was never offered anything when I came in; but maybe they started offering it after I'd already gone since it was a few months ago. Pros: Great quality mani, pedi, and facial, super friendly nail woman Cons: Tiny, Noisy Facial Room, Possibly cons looking for more $ more

Good Deals and Good Services 11/17/2008

They run monthly specials. What is great! It is better, that special priced services don't have quality difference from the regular ones. I like the Deep pore facial. They do give absolutely proper extractions. Helen and Dominique are my favorite aestheticians. Thank you, guys. Pros: snacks, tea and whine are provided more

Never understand those who are unhappy, no mutter what 11/16/2008

Of course, it is impossible to satisfy everyone. But I am going to tell you what: I've been Red & White Spa customer for almost 3 years. I visit them on the monthly base. I tried all massages, mostly all facials. I tried the services form almost everyone in the Red & White Spa. And I say that everyone is friendly, professional and gives just wonderful treatments. And of course I have my favorites. It's not like I never complain. We are all human beings, wright? Be ownest, I had couple situations in the past with Red & White , but the owner was always their to compromise and make sure I was leaving the spa happy. She is the sweetest thing. So professional, calm and self controlled. And they always run monthly specials. So helpful wright now when economic situation wishes stay better. more

LUCY is right - this was horrible! 11/14/2008

This was the absolute worst experience. It is true what lucy writes in her review, the hot oil massage - sorry, I mean hot stone massage was a slippery mess. She worked on my upper back and moved the stones around, but other than that she spent the rest of the time just wiping me down with more oil. I also got a facial which was far below subpar. I could barely feel her massaging my face and she barely did any extractions. The worst part was that my bg got this a gift certificate and THE OWNER tried to charge me extra for the facial! The gift certificate said '75 m. massage and 45 m. facial'. She said I should have requested a MINI facial, but nowhere on the certificate did it say that. She made me pay for their mistake! In the end, I had to pay her the difference so I could just leave that place and never think of it again! Please, don't get caught up on the prices. You definitely get what you pay for at the red & white spa! Cons: Services are subpar; not even close to a spa atmosphere; HORRIBLE Customer service by the owner herself! more

MY BEST TIME IN SPA 10/20/2008

First of all I want to say "thank you". I really enjoyed my time in "Red and White Spa". I had manicure, pedicure and facial - and every of these treatments were high professional and pleasant. My best regards to Helena - she made a facial for me, gave me good advices - how to take care about my skin, and I really appreciate her opinion! Special thanks to a front-desk girl. She was very attentive and pleasant to deal with. So...what I wanna say is - i want to be treated there - it's for sure! and I wanna hope that next time I'll spend great time too :-) more

Never again will they ruin my neck 9/20/2008

I went to the Red and White spa based on location, reviews here, and some specials they were having. I'll never return. My first go round i had a hot stone massage that was subpar, but ok.But I am pretty sure she was not a 'real' masseuse. I got a light rubdown and so much oil I was half waiting for the happy ending. BUT I foolishly figured I'd give it another chance (the price was right!) Next time I got a 'sports massage.' Not only did the massuese hurt my neck really badly, (a week later i am in pain and with a stiff neck - I can hardly turn it) but she did things I've NEVER had a lisenced masseuse do. First, no privacy. When I turned over there was no draping, just a small towel. My lady parts were out there. Maybe this is di rigeur for someone getting a Brazilian, but there are laws about massages. Next, she massaged my butt, and when i had to ask her not to. I've had hundreds of massages and this was just wrong. And I've been sore the next day, but not the next week & not to the extent that I might have to get to the dr. That plus miniscule rooms, waterstained chairs in reception, and both times when I entered the room the bath sized towel was just flung on the table. Sorry, Red and White, never again even with the specials. more

The BEST Brazilian in town! 8/5/2008

Every experience I have had at Red and White has been great. After using three different spas for the Brazilian wax, including Bliss, I started making routine appointments at R&W after my first experience. I have had appointments with three different girls so far, but I routinely go to Dominique, though I wouldn't hesitate to make appointments with any of the other girls there, either. Everyone there is really friendly, not at all stuck up or pretentious. I don't feel "judged" like I do at other places, either. Getting a Brazilian wax is an uncomfortable experience, but the ladies and R&W make it as good as it can possibly be. They're conversational, which is great to take my mind off the fact that I'm sitting on a table bare from the waist down in positions that only my boyfriend should see me. And actually, it's almost to the point where it doesn't even hurt to get it done anymore! The prices are really quite good, and their monthly specials are usually outrageously great deals. Like I said, I've been to Bliss before, too, and I'm telling you, Red and White takes the cake. You won't be disappointed! Pros: Great value, great staff, great results, low pressure, great atmosphere, nice decor. Cons: The only thing I can think of to list as a 'con' would be that the decor is not as "expensive looking" as Bliss. more

High quality waxing and facial services 6/5/2008

I've been there 2 times already. It is very clean, professional and friendly place. My Brazilian waxer was amazing: quick and gentle. And Deep Pore Cleansing Facial was a really deep pore cleansing one. Even it was a monthly special for the lower price, quality was on the high level. Pros: clean and quick waxing, quality facials more

best facial ever 4/26/2008

Found out about this spot through spa week. Am i glad cause this was the best facial i ever got. I have combination skin, with black heads on my nose and chin. anyway, once i got there Elena the lady that took great care of me, made them 50% less visible. i got the deep pore cleanser facial. yes, by the time i came out i was pretty red but thats what happens when you get a good facial. just think about it, all that squeezing causes trauma. but the next day you will see how much better your skin feels and looks. Pros: knowledgable staff just ask Cons: far from my house more

massage experience 3/4/2008

I work in Soho and it is nice to have a place to go and get manicure and pedicure done during the lunch. this place is nothing fancy, but simple and professional. All girls are doing a very good job. They are like a little family. I also got my first massage there for my birthday. Aroma Relaxation Massage was a perfect relieve for stressed city resident. Pros: all other nessesary comfort present Cons: no lockers and relax room more

Their Facials are the Best 3/4/2008

Dear Red & White Spa Team, I want to thank you for taking such a good care of me. I've been your client for about a year. Every time I come to the spa, I see happy faces around. Your skin care treatments are the best in the city. After I start coming regularly for the microdermabrasion and Hydrolifting Facial, my skin looks healthy and beautiful. I'd recommend this place to my friends. Pros: professional and friendly more

Miserable 2/21/2008

I bought my boyfriend his first massage here for Christmas. The receptionist encouraged me to add the tip to the gift card- so I added $20. When my boyfriend went in, the massage was terrible, AND they did not accept the $20 on the gift card as a tip! I had to go back, and get an overpriced manicure. Sure, the manicure lasted longer than usual, but it was not worth $25. Furthermore, my bf is so turned off that he never wants 2 get a professional massage again! I'm so sad that this potentially wonderful experience was an $125 nightmare. more

Good Waxing 12/6/2007

Waxing is quick. I mean very very very quick.... I've had waxings all over NYC and had pretty bad experiences so i know what i'm talking about ! :) The brazilian takes like 15 minutes which is incredible. I'm there once a month for my brazilian almost for a year now. During their spa week i had the Deep Pore Purifying Facial for 50bucks, it was a great deal for that kind of a facial. Esthetician was attentive. I don't know about the massages since i haven't tried it yet. I need one badly so i'll try it soon :) Overall, i've been having good experiences at this place. Not a very fancy looking spot but to me as long as the staff knows what they're doing and if they're good at it, its not very important. Pros: Waxing: quick, clean Cons: Decor: Mediocre more

Excellent brazilian 11/14/2007

WOW, really great brazilian wax. I went for a 50% off wax special ($25) and wasn't really expecting much since you usually get what you pay for. But I was really pleasantly surprised! I get waxed often enough to know how a bad wax feels and I have gotten some seriously bad/painful waxes in NYC. I usually go to a more expensive place that is really great but the discount made me try out Red & White. Dominka was amazing! She was very skilled, fast, VERY thorough, and relatively pain-free (as pain-free as brazilians can possibly be)! She was really nice and chatted with me through the whole thing. The room was clean and comfortable, sanitary and relaxing. Very very happy with the service and the results :) Pros: great discount, excellent brazilian with Dominika, nice space more

WARM AND PROFESSIONAL PLACE TO GO 11/1/2006

NICE, IMPRESSIVE! WHAT CAN I SAY ALSE? MY DEEP CLEANSING FACIAL WAS DONE VERY WELL , GENTLE AND RELAXING. I BOUGHT SOME OF THE PRODUCTS AFTER MY TREATMENT WAS DONE, BECOUSE I LOVED THE WAY PRODUCTS WORK ON MY SKIN. THANKS TO RED & WHITE SPA TEAM. I FEEL HAPPY! more

NICE SPA 10/16/2006

JUST WENT TO RED AND WHITE SPA TODAY FOR MY BIRTHDAY. IT WAS A VERY PLEASURABLE EXPERIENCE. THE PLACE IS VERY CLEAN AND THE STAFF IS FRIENDLY COURTEOUS AND PROFESSIONAL. I CAUGHT A DEAL WITH SPA WEEK WHERE THE SERVICES WERE $50 EACH AND WELL WORTH IT. I GOT A HOT STONE THERAPY MASSAGE AND A EUROPEAN FACIAL. IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD DEFINITELY GO BACK. THIS PLACE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN MY OPINION. LB FROM QUEENS. more

Not great for waxing, the local nail salon did better 10/5/2006

I walked in on a Sunday for an eyebrow and sideburns wax. I didn't have to wait long, but the wax was awful! I asked for the "sensitive" wax and it hurt more than a brazilian! My face was burning for hours afterwards. I got a rash on party of my face, and she didn't even get all the hair off. I don't know about the other services, but don't recommend getting waxed here. Pros: No wait Cons: Painful, ineffective waxing, on the expensive side more

Just Plain HORRIBLE 10/1/2006

I went to this salon because it received such high ratings on Citysearch and hoped to find a great new place. I never realized I'd end up with the worst facial. I'm just happy that I still have a layer of skin on my face, even if it looks horrible and hurts. In any case, I'm disappointed and will never go back. Wish someone would've warned me. I've never posted a review before but felt compelled to do so because my experience was such a NEGATIVE one!!! more
