40th Birthday Blues 7/12/2005

We chose the new location at the Red lion Jantzen Beach for my 40th Birthday. The table service was ok but the Managers at the front desk were very rude! Food was served cold and we didn't see are waitress until it was time to clear the plates. I wrote a letter to the owner about these issues and received NO RESPONSE! This indicates to me that they are not very concerenced about keeping their customers happy! Do not recommend at all! Pros: Nice Dining Room, Good Parking, Good View Cons: Too Expensive, Customer Service Fail, Rude Employees more

Bad experience 7/10/2005

Went to the new place on the Columbia River. Only one other dinning party was there and it still took one hour to even get some bread. We did not have any drinks but water and just waiting. I asked if I could get a piece of Halibut blackened, she looked at me as if I was crazy. She asked ""you mean grilled?"" I said no, made with blackening seasoning. She went and asked the chef and said yes. It had no blackening seasoning and way over cooked, it was all I could do to cut it. Only to match my wife's cold steak. It took a half hour after finishing our salad to even get our plates removed. Extremely slow and incompetent service only to be topped by extreme overprices. We will never go back! Pros: Nice view Cons: Slow servce, Worse chef, over priced more

A WONDERFUL BRUNCH 5/21/2005

Despite a location move and some previous negative reviews, my wife wanted a brunch for her birthday and Shenanigans came to mind. It was a risk WELL WORTH TAKING. For you fans of the old Shenanigans- it's back, bigger and better than ever! The food stations are more accessible, the entrees and dessert more plentiful, and the mainstays of the past (Namely, the fresh seafood) have been preserved. Two things which are a welcome change from the old location are the space of the brunch area and the INCREDIBLE view. Champagne, Crablegs, and 747s flying over the Columbia while jetboats scurry by... it had a very Seattle vibe. For those of you who haven't been, please go, and for those of you (like us) unsure of the new location, it's the same in many ways and much better in ambience! Pros: Food Quality, Space, Ambience Cons: inexperience more

The improvments are nice 5/6/2005

The new veiw is wonderful, right on the water. The food has improved and the higher quality is a nice treat. I had a wonderful time and will be back. Pros: Nice wait staff, wine list, Happy hour Cons: I-5 traffic more

Easter Disaster 3/29/2005

We made reservations for a group of 10 a couple weeks before Easter for brunch. When we arrived it was difficult to find a parking spot at the new Columbia River Shenanigans. When we got inside we found out why. They were seating groups of 5 or less in the resturant. All others were seated in the Ballroom. What a disappointment and why were we not told in advance when making reservations. The food was cold, deserts still frozen. The staff obviously temps for the weekend as no one really seemed to know what was going on. Fooled us once, but never again! more

Hit And Miss Brunch 10/9/2004

As a frequent customer to Shenanigans, I was initially impressed with their brunch variety (American, Mexican, Seafood, Lamb / Bad Sushi), however as of late their food and especially their service has lacking. Their service is much like their website, sub-par. On a beautiful sunny morning / afternoon the view is spectacular. Because this restaurant is located in the industrial section of Portland, the plants and factories that can be seen in the distance is not always best. Overall Shenanigans is a nice place for big groups (who can afford the $20 a person price tag) for both brunch and happy hour. It can be romantic for the ever personable couples since the atmosphere is rather quaint. However, even with all of those intangibles, they are still an up-and-down establishment when it comes to quality food and service. Pros: Brunch, Remote Location, Cheap Champagne Cons: , Sushi, Drinks more

You'll be glad you chose to dine here 9/22/2004

I am not from Portland and do alot of searching on the net to see where to dine. I chose Shenanigans from it's menu. I thought it would be a great place to celebrate my anniversary. Shenanigan's has a wide varity of foods, Pasta, seafood, steaks. I was impressed by the resturant, the waiter, the food and the view. I will most definatly be back here again. I urge you to try it and I know you wont be sorry. A+ more

Very Romantic 7/29/2003

We stumbled across this gem while driving around Swan Is. and fell in love with the place. We decided to have dinner and the setting was perfect for the view and the food was great. I would come back again and again. Pros: view, service Cons: decor more

okj 7/26/2003

Maitre d' was very helpfull and discribed it with over 100 item on brunch. Every on was very friendly and helpful. Pros: View, Romanic, Great Food more

Happy Hour or Nothing 7/17/2003

This place is run down. The only redeeming thing is their happy hour. Good price on drinks and $2 menu is a great value, and the free munchies are acceptable. The dining room, however, is not great during busy hours. I could hardly hear the people at my table over the crashing of dirty plates being dumped in tubs right in front of my table. The plates and silverware need to be replaced, all appear very overused. The banquet rooms are the last place to have a wedding reception. The curtains are circa 1980, very dirty and falling off the window hangers. Wallpaper is old, etc. Shenanigans could do a lot better if they tried a little. The potential is there. Pros: Happy Hour, Beer Cheese Soup Cons: Sunday Brunch, Banquet Rooms, dining room noise more

Awful place 6/9/2003

My family went for Sunday Brunch. Bacon and potatos were stale, eggs were runny and seafood overcooked. Usually cheese is pre-cut this had huge of cheese to cut yourself sitting there no ice to keep cool. The Brie cheese was melted and the rest of the cheese was soft. Pies were sitting no ice to keep cool they were warm and nasty. Butter was smashed under my chair and electrical wires haging out the the heaters. Orange juice was not served and the glasses were child size so 1 sip and glass was empty. We had reservations but were told that to wait for a table. Host was not customer service oriented. We ended up with 2 tables and could not move them together. I thought that is what reservations were for? overall I was very unhappy and will never eat there again along with the rest of my family. Pros: not, one, thing Cons: food, service, customer service more

First and last time 5/14/2003

Went on Mother's Day. This place must rely upon first timers as not many would experience the complete lack of service, poor buffet selection, etc and come back again. It started with the 1/2 hour wait to be seated, after our reservation time, the 10-15 min. wait to get a waffle and several 5 min. waits for clean plates. I had to get up and serve water and coffee for my guests. All thisa for $22.00 and then they have the nerve to write in a 15% gratuity!!! Thanks but no thanks. The worst buffet I've ever been to at any price. If their regular service is this poor its a wonder they're still in business..... Cons: Poor selection, Ran out of food, POOR SERVICE more

Shun-anigans! 12/18/2002

Reservation one week ahead of Silver anniversary. Came on time (even early), dressed to the nines. Seated by server station and big table for boisterous company Christmas party. Waited half hour for appetizer, drinking our watered mai tais. Appetizer was good: six crab-stuffed mushrooms, $1.50 each. Stood twenty minutes for salad bar. Mediocre salad, worse soup. Prime rib not cooked to specifications, baked potato not offered. Ambience good if you enjoy watching harried servers hustle around, stopping often to bicker. Don't get too attached to any one waiter; we got shuffled between three. Dessert tray had several different cheesecakes; the one chocolate thing was a vanishingly small serving of torte. We bypassed that, and said ""cheque, please"". First water refill came while we waited twenty minutes or so for that cheque. What the cheque lacked in immediacy it more than made up for in size. Pros: good parking, nice river view, menu uses large font Cons: don't care attitude, lousy drinks, mediocre food more
