Worst

I've been there twice and had a terrible experience both times. Here's a summation: No liquor, they over sell their tiny venue, you can't just walk up to the bar and order a bee...

GREAT VENUE GREAT SOUND 12/12/2010

We had a great time at the Red Light. Great sound for the two bands we saw perform. Food took awhile, but was hot and very good when we got it. The bartender was friendly and very quick. Looking forward to our next visit. more

Rock with tables 8/18/2005

The Red Light Cafe is in a small, narrow space with high ceilings and the floor space is crowded with small, coffee house tables. The sound system is superb and so is the music they have there. If you like alt-country from Nashville, or bluegrass, this is the place to be. The only drawback is they only have shows once a week or so. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Hidden amongst warehouse outlets on Amsterdam Avenue, Red Light Cafe caters mainly to acoustic bluegrass and country musicians. High ceilings and red brick form a fitting backdrop for local artwork and bare white canvasses. The spartan atmosphere ensures that nothing will detract from the music, which is played at ear-shattering decibels. If you've come here to talk, you won't hear a word. Weekends, the joint is packed with music aficionados who descend upon the chairs and tables assembled around the stage like hungry wolves.

    The Draw
A melange of older bearded men and young urbanites with oxford shirts call this friendly music club a favorite. There are the occasional free spirits in the mood for love and women out to enjoy good old country and bluegrass with their girlfriends.
