I had a wonderful experience with the vet, the boarding and the grooming. The vet did not try to upsell, I took my dog to a different vet for the same problem and the it was about $300 cheaper here! I boarded my dog there for the weekend and he was in good spirits when I picked him up- I had boarded him somewhere else and he seemed traumatized by it. I also risked the grooming because of my other good experiences, and I'm pretty picky about the grooming. The groomer was not there when I dropped him off so she called me to clarify what I wanted when she got in and did a wonderful job. Highly recommend. I drive all the way from PB to take my dog here! more

I have been coming to this practice ever since I was a 19 year old student at SDSU, in 2000. Even when I moved to Hillcrest for a couple of years, I still made the trip to San Carlos to visit Drs. Reh and Reh for all of my veterinary services. They show genuine concern for our pets and engaged them better than I have seen some pediatricians interact with children. I bypassed my normal vet because I live a lot closer to this one. I walked in without an appointment with my chocolate lab and they saw me very quickly. The vet Jeff Reh was super friendly and very good at explaining everything that was going on with my dog. The best thing was that they called me the next day to make sure my dog was doing ok. I thought this was amazing customer service. more

This husband and wife team are great. Very kind and Gentle. They have never pushed me to buy anything. They know I have limited income and give me all the options available and respect my decisions if I decide not to do something. Their Groomers are top notched as well. more

I adopted a kitten years ago and after he was full grown, he was diagnosed with kideney issues and possible renal failure. I had a vet from the time I brought him home, it appeared to have been a genetic condition. Once we noticed some problems, my wife and I took him to our vet in Point Loma and while we had decent service, we paid for Ringers solution, medications, needles and everything else from the clinic who would not allow us to search for better prices online. Their staff was only somewhat friendly and the service was pretty abrupt each visit. more

I have been going to Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic for many years, even before Dr. Strachan sold it to Dr(s) Shannon and Jeff. They can be a little more expensive than some other vets, but they also have seen the foster kittens that I care for at VERY reduced rates. They have seen us through the death of my husband's 19 yr old cat and our 11 yr old tripod German Shepherd. They have cared for all our animals with excellent results. They are very personable and care very deeply about all their patients. They stay up to date on all types of vet medicine and procedures. They were the first vets I had ever been to that offered to write a prescription to order my dog and cat meds over the internet. I didn't even ask for this, but they wanted to give me the option. Even King Stallman of the bail bonds commercials takes his dogs to them. They have never given me an incorrect diagnosis. I also read a review somewhere else that referred to the heartworm meds that were prescribed by the doctors as "unnecessary" in San Diego. I HAVE SEEN cases of heartworm here in SD. I am from Florida originally and have first hand experience with the damage heartworms do to an animal. With all the influx of people from heartworm regions, it is crazy to think we don't have them here. The mosquito bites the infected animal and then carries the infestation to other animals. Though not in the numbers Florida has, there ARE mosquitos here. I believe that yearly testing and monthly meds are a very inexpensive alternative to letting my dog suffer after getting heartworms. There are treatments to get rid of the worms, but it is very expensive and toxic. My Westie that I had when I lived in Fla. almost died from the treatment, and we had to stop it before she was rid of the worms. I have recommended these vets to all my friends and all my clients who need vets or are not happy with their current vets. I am a professional Pet Sitter and know many fine vets, but Dr(s) Reh are still the ones I choose. Pros: Caring vets up to date information Cons: Somewhat expensive more

My husband used to take his other dog to this clinic before he passed away and said that they were always very nice, So I agreed to try it out. We brought our cat and dog on the same day for their regular annual check up and my dog at the time also had a skin condition (Folliculitis) and needed to be treated immediately. Our Dr. was Dr. Rey and he was extremely caring to both of our pets. He suggested tests and asked us first if we wanted him to do them and also recommended 2 antibiotics for the dog. Although the overall visit was very expensive ,it was well worth it. Our dog was better within a matter of a week even though she had to take the medication for 2 weeks. We were very pleased with his attitude and advice for how to treat her condition early on to prevent having to take more antibiotics in the future. He also gave very good advice on how to introduce a new baby to your dog. The medication for her was the most expensive part of the visit, but he did recommend to us to buy it off of the internet for a lot cheaper price. We however went against it and bought it right away, since she needed it that day and we were unwilling to wait 3-5 extra days for it to be shipped in the mail. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone. The staff is friendly and both Dr. Rey and Dr. Rey (husband and wife) are caring, nice and helpful. Dr. Reh treated my minature schnauzer for a condition that was untreatable, charging me, not once, but twice for medication that was unneeded and unnecessary (he later admitted that the condition was normal in schnauzers and not dangereous). My own Internet research confirmed my dog's condition (Schnauzer Bumps), and when I asked Reh about my findings, he admitted that the condition was normal.......but that didn't stop him from charging me for un-needed medication. Pros: Vet & groomer in one location Cons: Vet is terrible....don't know about the groomer. more

This couple is extraordinarily caring and precise. A soft tissue sarcoma was quickly identified a few years ago on my little dog and she was immediately referred to appropriate surgeons! She had a great recovery!\r \r They continue to stay up to date on testing and other procedures to keep pets healthy! That's what I want for my precious dog! more

I have had great experiences with Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic. It is now a husband and wife team--they recognized unusual symptoms in my cat and the condition was promptly treated. When my prior pet was very sick, they suggested another center that had specialized treatment. A satisfied customer. PROS: Husband/wife team, caring, good grooming, flexible hours CONS: a bit pricey, but they have discount days. more

I wouldn't recommend this vet because they want you to buy extra, unnecessary services. For instance, they recommended I get my dog a med for heartworm and fleas. Before prescribing it, I had to pay for a blood test to ensure she didn't have heartworm. At the end of the year, before renewing the RX, they wanted her to take another blood test. "She's been taking the anti-heartworm all year, she shouldn't have heartworm," I said. They would not do it ,so I switched vets. My new vet said that there are NO cases of heartworm in San Diego County and therefore that this med is unnecessary- but I could get it if I wanted to. I was appalled that this vet would prescribe something that has no value in this area. A friend had a similar problem with this vet and his cats, but I won't speak on hearsay, just on what happened to me. I got the feeling they were interested in making as much money as possible under the guise of it being good for your pet and "guilting" you into spending more. more
