Rage used to be THE dance bar to go to in West Hollywood, but in the past year, it seems to be floundering a lot, struggling to find a consistent crowd. This legendary gay venue ...

Depending on the night... 12/2/2003

Depending on the night this place can be either a BLAST or a WASTE. Being the young sophisticated over-worked (@ school) gay guy that I am, I like to go out every once and a while and just dance till two! I've come to RAGE on tuesdays, thursdays, fridays, and saturdays and have found that the only night really worth going on is Friday, at least for me. On Friday nights you'll find a packed club (so come not too late) and great music (pop/hip hop/dance). The drinks aren't cheap but the dancing is worth it! Saturday nights are DEATH! Pros: Good Music, Big Dance Floor, Easy to find Parking Cons: $$$COVER, Occasional Nasty Guys, can get very hot! more

Save yourself! 3/15/2003

Aviod this place like it has the plague. I hated it. Its full of teen bopper gays, the night I went they were having a christina agulaira, justin, britney contest. the guys were awful, the booze sucked, the music was for crap, cramped outside...i even saw bobby trendy from the anna nicole show there. Don't bother. more

So fun! 2/7/2003

Too much attitude and all hype. 11/19/2002

I was not too impressed with this place. To much attitude and all hype. The staff were very unfriendly. New York clubs are better. more

Inconsistent Dance Bar- varies each nite 10/7/2002

Rage used to be THE dance bar to go to in West Hollywood, but in the past year, it seems to be floundering a lot, struggling to find a consistent crowd. This legendary gay venue is currently even straight one night a week (a radio station dance party, no less), and hip-hop another night, which is kind of strange in what used to be a gay staple that you could always depend on for hi-NRG dancing. Monday nites are a popular long-running alternative music nite. Other nites can be quite dead. Pros: centrally located, good sound Cons: inconsistent crowd more

Dance till dawn! 6/25/2002

The has to be the best place to meet up with friends on a Sunday afternoon and bring it home at the break of Dawn! Very entertaining, fun music! Fun dancers!! You won't want to leave! Pros: music, entertainment, drinks Cons: parking, price for drinks, parking -none! more

Ground Zero 5/21/2002

What young gay man coming out in Los Angeles hasn't found himself dancing deleriously at Rage on at least one Saturday night? This is where the pilgrimage ends for lots of folks who flock to the mecca of West Hollyood, looking for the kind of liberated out-loud-and-proud culture you just don't find in small towns. Rage delivers--but in a Disneyland sort of way. It is, to the hilt, an amusement park of gay night life, with a souped up but not truly spectacular light and sound system, plenty of pretty faces, and a couple of bars, upstairs and down. It's not edgy or original or inventive in any way. You've seen places like it in NY, SF, even Atlanta. In fact, you've probably seen better. But if you want to test the waters of the gay scene in Los Angeles, this is as good a place to start as any. more

  • In Short
This popular two-story club has a cafe-style terrace with heat lamps for smokers and stargazers, and three bars for people-watching. Each night spotlights a different DJ spinning old-school tracks, uplifting house and Latin beats. Monday's Alternative Night is a long-standing tradition, with DJ Steven Cunningham playing underground sounds with an alternative slant, and Tuesday's Funktion packs in the 18 and over crowd with a mix of hip-hop, R&B and funk.
