Best Western Barratt Inn was our home away from home for over two decades. New owners within the last 5yrs, there is a great decrease in service. Now with ANC having other hotels ...

We stayed here twice in one week. Their rooms are large! Our first room had no lamp on the night stand. Second room did. Second room had wet carpet near the refrigerator. Breakfast was great! 24 hour front desk was very helpful. more

We had two separate overnight stays here on our way to and from Denali and really appreciated the 24 hour free shuttle service and free breakfast (cereals, fruit, oatmeal, waffle mix and syrup, hardboiled eggs, cinnamon rolls, toast & spreads, & drinks. Quick & efficient check-in and out, and helpful staff. Very spacious & comfortable room with king-size bed, full kitchen with crockery, cutlery and pans, huge stove and fridge, coffee maker. So what if the light fittings aren't the newest: they work OK and everything else was great. Recommended. more

Very convenient to the airport. The shuttle was available for us at 5 AM and got us there in 5 minutes. Room was roomy and clean. No complaints. Staff was very helpful. Perfect place for a quick overnight travel stay. Good rates for the area. more

We stayed there for a night on our way from Alaska to Seattle. For the price, it was the best hotel we stayed at in our 7 day trip. Pretty fancy hotel with all amenities and big rooms. Good wireless connections. 10 mins from the airport. We had to leave early in the morning so could not try their breakfast. more

I stayed at this hotel on my recent hunting trip. The hotel staff very friendly and helpful! It is in a great location and not only close to Anchorage International but close to lake hood (largest sea plane base in the world). Quick trip, McDonalds, Pizza all within walking distance. Free breakfast. more

Our connecting plane to Anchorage was several hours late, so had to cancel our reservations elsewhere. Since I made reservations over cell phone, forgot to ask about AARP or AAA rates. The clerk recalculated the rate and gave us the lowest rate. Late in the evening this hotel gave us a room. It was clean and large. Some renovations going on, new carpet in hallways, drapes, not major construction. Very helpful with the reservations and providing rides on the shuttle to other locations in the city. Breakfast was good. There were 2 separate buildings, we were in the back building. I would not give the building 5 stars, but would give the staff a full 5. I would certainly stay here again, especially if I needed to get to or from the airport. It is close to the airport; a longer drive or cab ride to downtown Anchorage. more

This hotel is an excellent value. Deluxe breakfast, very nice rooms, comfy beds, clean. We stayed here on 3 different nights during a 2 week trip to Alaska. They were in the process of renovating the rooms. We must have stayed in the new rooms because all of them were really nice. The shuttles to and from the airport were very prompt. An added benefit is that the hotel is half a block from a budget car rental office. You can rent a car there and save the airport fees. more

Friendly staff and large rooms. Clean and close to airport. They have a free continental breakfast and a free shuttle to and from the airport. 3 miles to downtown. We wish we had stayed here instead of moving to a downtown hotel. If you have a rental car, this hotel is fine for traveling downtown, only 5 minute drive and free parking more

My wife and I were fortunate enough to make a four night reservation at the Alex Hotel in Anchorage. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and that bed was SOOO comfortable. Shortly after our arrival in Anchorage we had to make a significant change to our travel plans which required us to stay in the hotel for nine nights instead of four nights. Hotel management could not have been more accommodating if I had owned the hotel; they were able to confirm a nine night stay instead of four, even during a time of heavy booking. What a relief it was to have a room available when we needed it! We will look forward to staying in the Alex Hotel on our next trip. more

A little about us first....There were 3 of us traveling together to Alaska for a cruise from Whittier to Vancouver. Myself and Husband are early 40's and have been to Anchorage 2X prior. My friend was 35 and this was his first visit. Unfortunately, due to work schedules, we had very limited time in Anchorage and only needed a hotel when we arrived very late at night (11:00pm) and were leaving on the train at 9:45am the next morning. For that short of a stay, I could not justify spending more money for a hotel room...and rates are very high in the summer in Anchorage.\r \r We arrived late at night at the airport after a very long day of travel. When we arrived in baggage claim, I called the hotel for their shuttle. I did see one outside at that moment, but we didn't have our luggage yet. They said to call back when we had our bags...I did so and the shuttle was there about 5 minutes later. The shuttle driver was very nice and personable. The shuttle itself was a van and very clean. It was about 3-5 minutes to the hotel. \r \r We checked in and received the room we had reserved online on the Alex website...a room with 2 Queen beds. It was in the back building, not the main building. The room was extremely large, a lot of space and very basic in amenities. The beds were comfortable, much more comfortable than our previous night's stay at a Marriott Courtyard in Kansas City. The bathroom was basic, but clean. There is a small bar of soap, shampoo, and conditioner. I had mine own with so I didn't use what was provided. There is a separate vanity area that included a coffee maker.\r \r The TV was flat screen, but we were so tired, we never turned it on. There are large windows that overlook the other building and parking lot. The building is non smoking. I assume we were in a renovate room. It seemed clean and in good repair to me. Again, basic, but perfect for our needs. There was also air conditioning and black out curtains.\r \r The next morning we went to the free breakfast. It was about the same as most hotels. A waffle machine, pastries, some hot items, juice and soda machine (for free), coffee, etc. We snacked on a few items and then asked for the shuttle to downtown to the train station. They had said the night before to just ask the front desk about 10 minutes prior to needing to leave. They had two shuttles running--a van and a larger Mercedes shuttle. The driver had just left so it took about 25 minutes for him to show up. The front desk was very apologetic...we had built in plenty of time so it wasn't that bad of a wait. I was very appreciative of both the free airport shuttle and the downtown shuttle. That is rare. They dropped us off on time at the train station and assisted with getting our luggage to the porters.\r \r Overall, I would stay here again. The location is not bad near the airport and across the street from a lake. The Millennium Hotel is across the street to the left and the Puffin is across the street to the right. There was another directly across the street. I felt the value was much better at the Alex Hotel. The staff were friendly and all the basic needs were available. If we were staying for a longer stay, I might look downtown...but then again, with the free shuttle, the money savings is really better at Alex. We don't need pools or other items for our stay.\r \r I rated this as 5 on a 5 scale primarily due to the value vs. the other hotels we had stayed. The rooms were nicer than the Hilton. The best room was the suite we had at the Sheraton, but we paid nearly $400 for the night there. more

First let me tell you a little about us there were 4 of us staying in one room we were there do to a tragedy that happened to my very young nephew, this was a very trying and hard time for our family. The moment we arrived at this hotel The staff was fantastic and management went above and beyond in helping us with everything we needed. The room was great bed’s real comfortable and breakfast is very good. I have stayed in many hotels and have been treated very well is most all of them But the people working and running this hotel is the best I have ever experienced. I will defiantly be staying at this Hotel again on my vacation visiting family. more

My mother, sister and I stayed here in june of 2014. The many reviews I read of negative remarks originally scarde me. But as budget wise travelers I chose to try it out. It was a great decision. We were checked in immediately upon arrival. After a long stay at the anchorage airport that was great! We were welcomed to the hotel, after the shuttle picked us up, and our rooms were clean. Breakfast was decent. Our bellies were filled. The shuttle even dropped us off downtown at the summer market later in the day! (Beware of prices in the market for souvenirs. ...go out and venture the city once done with the market...cheaper souveniers)\r Ok, back to hotel. Its worth what you pay and two stars. Expecting glamour is ridiculous but, quality of envirnoment and amenities are just right! more
