Worst

I don't understand what all the hype is about this place- it's overrated. I recently went to Q-4-U for the first time. I was with a large group. Nobody was really impressed wit...

BAD 3/31/2011

They are horrible.. I purchased a gift certificate on citydeals for Q4U which expired on 3/31. We went in today (3/31) and was told the gift certificate was expired, it expired when they opened today. This is horrible! What business does this? I think they just like to steal your money!! The manager was very rude also, she didn't care! I will be taking my business to Pat's Bar B Que which tastes better anyway. more

Decent 12/1/2010

I like Q4U plenty - their food can be hit-or-miss, but the brisket is good and the ribs are tasty. Not a fan of most of their sides, but meat and sauce are okay. more

Confused about the bad reviews 11/15/2010

We've been eating at Q4U for a few years now, and I am pretty confused about the bad reviews on here. It's always tasty whenever I go. I had the spare ribs last night and they were anything but dry! I do understand some of the complaints about the sides (never tried the yams or mac n cheese), and the bread that comes with the meals is pretty blah in what seems to be a BBQ tradition of lousy bread. The Cajun spiced fries are great and the hush puppies are nice and oniony. My advice would be to not even bother with any other sides (depending on what you get, your meal comes with one or two sides). LOVE the sauces - the house sauce is the best in my opinion. Sweet, tangy and just a little bit hot. Overall, I love Q4U and there are a lot of tasty affordable options. I might rate this lower (just because not everything on the menu is stellar) if I hadn't had visits to other local BBQ joints within the last two months to remind me that what matters is the meat and the sauce. more

Q4U - not 4 me 6/6/2010

My husband and I have heard a lot of good things about Q4U in West Jordan, so we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. After all, a place that has been voted best bbq and gets rave reviews has to be good, right? WRONG. We ordered take out and once we got home and dug in, we were very dissapointed. The ribs were very dry, not fall off the bone like they should be. The sauce was served on the side, not on the ribs. The brisket was extremely dry also. The mac n cheese was disgusting! And the 'sweet yams' were anything but. So to put it bluntly, this is the worst bbq we've ever had. We won't be giving it a second chance. Whoever voted this the best bbq must not know what GOOD bbq is. You're better off going to Goodwood BBQ. Pros: BBQ sauce was pretty good Cons: Dry ribs, bland mac n cheese more

""Best of Citysearch""...You POOR people! 10/7/2009

Worst BBQ I ever tasted in my life. I ordered the big combo plate, since the reviews, and was treated to DRY, as a powderhouse, pork ribs, mangy chicken, flavorless fatty brisket and well, I won't even mention the sides(you can get better in Angola State Penn.). This place CAN NOT cook! I mean at all. Take the southern sweet tea for example, so much sugar in the tea it almost melts the spoon. Can everything be this difficult to do? TEA? Pros: Can't think of a one and believe me I'm trying.. Cons: It's open for business like a spider to a fly(YOU). more

smokeyness 2/26/2009

So, I've had bbq in Memphis and Kansas City and all over, and my favorite is definitely the KC stuff because of the smokey flavor. Q4U was the first place in utah where ive found brisket with a good smokey flavor (i've tried at least a half dozen places). It's no KC for sure, but it's solid. I had a brisket sandwich and the roll they used was great (very substantial). the fries were good although had i not been eating in the car i would have tried other sides. Pros: prices not bad, good meat Cons: lack of sauce variety more

Good BBQ BAD Sides 6/30/2008

The ribs my girlfriend and I shared were delicious, almost as good as you can find in the South. However, the sides we ordered were mediocre. Decent service overall. I'd probably go back just for the BBQ. more

Food fit for a DOG?? 6/6/2008

YUCK! The chicken quarter/leg was green! I'm not kidding... green in color! Mac and cheese was day-old, at best. Beans were soggy and nasty. Only two sauce choices (regular and spicy) both mediocre and NOT spicy at all. Ribs were extremely fatty and lacked flavor. Sausage was passable, but definitely not top-tier. pulled pork was decent, but again, nothing to make me crave it or EVER return. The drinks had barely any ice in them. Pros: Inexpensive/Cheap Cons: Everything else: Dumpy place, disgusting food, terrible service more

Rude service, overwhelmed staff 3/7/2008

We visited Q4U at their new location on 5400 South. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the staff seemed very overwhelmed. It took 10 minutes to seat us, although there were empty tables everywhere and no one in front of us. When another 10 minutes went by before a waitress came to our table, I walked up and mentioned that to the hostess, wondering if perhaps we had been forgotten. The hostess snapped back very rudely, asserting that we had not been there very long, and that we had ""just got here"". I returned to our table, a little flustered, and at that point we decided that we didn't want to eat there. The staff seemed indifferent that we left, and we received no apologies. Cons: Rude, unprofessional staff more

What happend?? 8/16/2007

I had not been to Q4u in awhile so we stopped in for lunch and were left wondering what happened to the good food we use to get there. The meat on the sandwiches were dry leaving us to wonder if it was leftovers from the previous day. The Chicken wings were fried breading was very hard and what happened to the sauce changed, it use to be a really delicious honey cinnamon sauce and now its no better then what you might get at a gas/convenience store. more

Garbage all the way around 1/15/2007

I'm from the South. Now Q is highly regional so there's lots of differnt ways to make good Q. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything they do more

Best Q and GREENS 12/16/2006

DONT READ THE REST THIS IS THE BEST!! I moved out here from North Carolina 6 years ago and I know southern greens and Q. Let me tell you, I have searched for greens and pork Q since I got here and I will say this. No one here can compare to Q4U. Not only is the food outstanding but where else can you walk into a resteraunt and talk directly to the owner as if you had known him for years. The experiance is great, a place where you feel at ease with yourself and everyone else. I have searched all over this city looking for southern greens and I have be extreemly displeased. This place not only had outstanding greens and Q but also had satisfied my hunger for them. Look no further for great Q this is the place to go!!!! Pros: Outstanding Q and Greens with a great owner Cons: Only one in town more

Not Q4U 6/30/2006

The Ribs were very fatty and a little bit dry. Having to pay extra for sides is a definite no no!!!!! Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Where do I start not pleasing at all more

Best ""REAL"" BBQ I've found in Utah 6/26/2006

I just read the last reveiw posted on here titled ""Q4U but not for me"" and must say that I am completely astonished that they had a miserable experience and did not enjoy what has become my families favorite restaurant. Having traveled around the country since birth, I've had more than my fair share of BBQ with plenty of them claiming to be ""the best"". Searching for real BBQ here in Utah was continuously a disappointment for me until I read an article that was written about Q4U in the Salt Lake Tribune several weeks ago (i'm quite certain they know more than the last person who posted). Being an avid Tribune reader, I was quite surprised to see that they received a very complimenting write up considering that those critics have been pretty harsh to other places. Building up the nerve to try it out and praying I wasn't going to another place that boiled the meat and slopped it with sauce, I went to Q4U and found myself in BBQ HEAVEN. The ribs were the best I'd had in years. The combination of seasonings and smoke flavor enhanced the ribs so much there wasn't a need for bbq sauce, although I did try the sauces and enjoyed them both. The side dishes were great. You don't find too many places that serve collard greens, yams or black eyed peas unless I'm down south. Q4U is also the only place in Utah that knows was ""sweet tea"" is. Any takers? Pros: Food, fast service, extensive menu Cons: Location, they don't take reservations more

Q4U but not for me! 6/20/2006

My family and I went to Q4U hoping to eat some good BBQ. However, after eating there we were disappointed. Pros: Tasty sides and tasty ribs Cons: Fatty ribs, run down building, small sides more

Bleah! 5/31/2006

Not a smoke ring on any of the alleged barbecue. No rub on the ribs. Just a dirty muddy flavor. Sauces were OK. Spicy sauce wasn't spicy at all. Sort of glorified sweet and sour sauce with some tabasco. The main sauce was OK, worked with the brisket. The brisket was the best of the meats I had in the sampler. Pulled pork was dry dry dry and even a bit tough. Perhaps from drying out so much Pros: OK sauce Cons: bad location, weak food more

Best Food!! 4/4/2006

I'm from the south and grew up on B-B-Q, as well as worked in it. THIS IS THE BEST!! I recommend this to everyone I know or meet. They can even handle large groups, like our family party of 30+. I was introduced to this place and have been back at least once a month, if not more often. The owners are friendly, the food is beyond terrific, and we have a great time. My kids and grandkids love it. It's more like going home and having dinner with your family, than eating in a restaurant. And when the blue grass band comes in, we are always there. Pros: food, atmosphere, everything more

True BBQ at Q4U 4/2/2006

By far one of the top BBQ establishments in the SLC Valley. If your looking to be wined, dined, and being waited on hand and foot, go to a 5 Star restraunt. If you want TRUE BBQ, Q4U is the place to go. Q4U is in a class all by itself and should NEVER be compared to a Famous Daves, Roadhouse, or Tony Romas. The staff is friendly and the service is fast and I finally found a place that has true BBQ in Utah. The trophy's and awards on the wall at Q4U and one of the highest rated BBQ establishments in the US are only great achievments to great BBQ. Pros: Great BBQ, Excellant Value, Friendly Staff Cons: West side of valley more

Best BBQ I've had ANYwhere!! 10/23/2005

Best BBQ I've had ANYwhere!! Love their pulled pork sandwiches, ""Pig From The Rig"" (during warmer months Friday evenings), and their incredible ribs. Their chicken breast sandwich, pork tenderloin fingerstrips, and ""Darn Snacky Pork Spare Rib Sandwich"" are all great, too. Cole slaw, sweet yams, and other ""sides"" are all top notch. In fact, I don't think you can go wrong with ANYthing at Q4U!! The owners, ""T"" and Becci, are nearly always at the restaurant, checking with patrons to insure everything is just right. LOVE the friendly, personal attention!! Although a bit out of the way, Q4U is DEFINITELY worth the trip -- it's a ""destination restaurant."" You'll find TV and sports personalities, local dignitaries, and public servants from valley Police and Fire Departments hanging out there frequently. Q4U won the Grand Champion trophy at the Gallivan Center Rock 'n' Ribs Fest. They ""smoked"" the competition!! Positively a 10! Pros: Consistent quality, Friendly service more

Best in Utah for sure! 7/22/2005

Unbelieveable!! Those who have chosen to trash Q4U must be inexperienced as to what good barbeque is all about. I travel throughout the country and always try the barbeque wherever I go. There are one or two places down south that I would rate better then Q4U overall. But west of the Mississippi there is nothing better. Those who say Q4U barbeque is dry are not familiar that the best barbeque is dry rubbed. Barbebue is not about slathering on a bunch of sauce. This is authentic Southern barbeque. Make sure you try the sweet potato pie. It is to die for. Okay the ambience leaves something to desire. But true barbeque connoisseurs will happily disregard the ambience of the restaurant to enjoy the best barbeque in Utah. You don't get pampered, you don't get waiters in tuxedos; you get barbeque, dammit! Pros: Food, Food, Food more
