Hit and miss - avoid this place. 12/20/2009

Never know what you'll get. Hit and miss, inconsistent. Usually a waste of money, but sadly is the only South (AND North) Indian restaurant for many miles around. If you are not in a hurry for Indian food, then drive over to the Farmington Hills area, or better yet - go to Ann Arbor. Go to Chicago, or NYC. Go anywhere else. Ordered a dosa and appetizer. The dosa came with 2 VERY small sides of chutney, enough for about 4 dips so I had to just throw away over half of the dosa as I ran out of chutney. Most places give you sambar and larger portions of chutney, not here. The appetizer was a 'tandoori combo' or something. Horrible. I did not eat it all. 1 star, 0 if I could. Pros: Not the only restaurant in Michigan Cons: The only Indian restaurant for miles around more

Avoid Forever 3/1/2008

This by far, is the worst Indian Restaurant in the country. The wait staff is terrible and the manager needs a brain exam and a lesson in basic manners. There is one waitress taking care of the 25 to 30 tables they have in the restaurant, along with one assistant who does not know what time of the day it is. The manager/ receptionist greets you , seats you, gives you water ( when she feels like it, if at all), cleans the tables and brings you drinks. The waitress, who lookes like is she is the harrassed mother of 10, barks out "" what do you want for dinner?"". The average price in this restaurant are between $13-$17 / entree and the waitress acts like it is a roadside diner. Takes your order and brings all your food out together along with a take away box and check. I think the local Dennys have more class than this place. There is not chance for you to order another drink, bread, dessert or coffee... something which most couples like to do when they are dining outside on a Sat night!! Pros: none- food not worth writting about Cons: bad service, 1 waiter for 25 tables.... 1 assistant!!, poor ambience- disgusting odour, bad attitude from the receptionist to the owner! more

Best Indian restaurant In Metro Detroit 1/27/2008

Been to every Indian joint in town. This is the best. I wouldn't say its flashy, It's in a strip mall, the decor is there, authentic Paintings and prints on the wall. A friendly smile form the hostess, great service, and Indian food that leaves you wanting more!!! I compare this to the time we lived in D.C. and ate at very posh and upscale Indian restaurants whose food rocked as most cater to the embassies. Priya is very close with its food. We go there at least once a week. They always aim to please and never disappoint. Pros: Excellent Cons: very open not intimate more

Worst Service, The Waitresses are downright rude 9/21/2007

This restaurant is an example of how an eat-out should not be managed. The most rude manager with the worst service possible awaits anyone who dares to visit the place......... Pros: Location Cons: Poor Service, Rude Waitresses more

Great service! 5/5/2007

Just to counter the review that downgraded Priya for its poor service - We just had dinner there last night and the service was excellent. We were seated immediately and our waitress appeared at the table with a candle to ""create some atmosphere"" within a few seconds. Two of our party were vegans and she went through the menu making suggestions for items that would meet our needs and even offered to write down a list if that would help us decide. We all commented on how knowledgeable she seemed to be, patiently answering all questions. She checked with us during dinner (without being intrusive) to ensure that everything was all right. The food was delicious and reasonably-priced and I can't wait to go back. I hope that Priya appreciates how valuable this server is and treats her well so that she will be available for other diners to guide them through the complexities of a cuisine that some of us are still trying to learn to navigate. Pros: Excellent service/ convenient, free parking/ extensive menu/ delicious food/ quiet (we could actually carry on a conversation) more

Good food! 3/8/2007

I guess the other reviewers had terrible service, but it's always been good when I went there. I think the food is excellent, some favorites being the mataar paneer and the vegetable pakora. The only thing I wouldn't suggest are the mixed vegetable dishes, as they use a frozen mix of diced carrots, peas, and corn that just doesn't cut it. Overall, an excellent spot that's definitely worth a visit. Pros: Great food, immediate seating for the most part Cons: kheer served warm more

Worst Service EVER! 12/14/2005

Tried this place twice. Each time the service was horrible. The first time, we were seated promptly but after not even having a server come to our table after 20+ minutes, we got up and left. The second time, the server was rude, slow (it was NOT very busy), and brought the wrong appetizer AND dinner. When this was pointed out to her, she was so rude that we swore that once we left, we would share our experience with this establishment to anyone who would listen. The food was just okay, but certainly not worth putting up with the shoddy, rude service. Go someplace else. Go ANYPLACE else. Two thumbs down! Pros: prompt seating, good parking, inexpensive Cons: BEYOND poor service, food's just okay, Not worth the money more

Good food, poor service 8/15/2005

The prices are comparable to most Indian restaurants in Southeast Michigan, and the food, though not the best Indian food I've had in the area, was very good (granted, I only sampled three entrees). I was not at all impressed with the thali (full meal) option; for two extra dollars you have the opportunity to sample a few side dishes, but you get a smaller portion of the entree, and I didn't particularly care for any of the side dishes. My experience was tainted by a waitress who was extremely rude after mixing up my order. All servers make mistakes, but a quality server would have handled the situation much more professionally--after making the error, she never even bothered to ask how my meal was. Pros: Good food Cons: Service more

Not great South Indian food 3/14/2004

Having recently returned from South India, I ventured out to Troy only to be disappointed. Perhaps I expected too much--the food is pretty good (very credible dosas) but not quite great. I could not get across to the waiter what I wanted--I wanted that big, Kerala rice. He looked at me like he'd never heard of Kerala. Priya would be a nice place to take a group of adventurous friends, because South Indian food is hard to find. Pros: Type of food Cons: , Waiters more
