Presidio Theater Upgrade 4/14/2009

In late 2008, The Presidio Theater underwent many improvements. All the auditorums, except for the small ""screeing room"" theater have had new speakers and the latest digital sound systems installed.\r \r Some upgrades have also been made to the projection equipment, improving the image on screen. The big auditorium (""Theater 1"") has one of the largest non-Imax screens still operating in The City. \r \r The offending Exit signs in the balcony audtoriums have been toned down a bit, but there is a limit to how much the theater can do and still comply with fire safety laws. \r \r Street parking can be difficult, but not impossible, to find on some weekends. Just leave yourself a bit of extra time before the show to find a good spot. You may have to walk a few blocks to the theater, but it's a great neighborhood to stroll through. The theater is easly accessable by several public transit lines all of which stop nearby, and there are also several parking lots (pay) nearby. \r \r The Presidio is one of SF's few remaining classic neigborhhod theaters and is still a great place to see a show. Although the original building has been divided into 4 auditoriums, much of the original 1930's archetecture has been kept intact, making for an interesting interior. Pros: Large Screen - Digital Sound Upgrade - Great Location Cons: Parking Sometimes Difficult more

Chopped up small theater - very poor quality 6/6/2008

This used to be a decent small theater and it is still conveniently located if you are in the neighborhood. But probably half your friends have better viewing conditions for a movie that you can watch for free instead of paying the bucks for this chopped up cineplex.\r \r The main theater is okay - not a good sound system and the screen is just average size but you realize how lucky you are to be in that one when you see the other theaters. Another theater is chopped up from a part of what used to be the balcony. The sound quality is poor, the floor is just bare wood planks and there is a bright green exit sign shiing in the middle of the theater along one wall. Any decent viewing seat has to contend with basically a green flashlight shining in the face the whole time. \r \r But the worst is the third theater. It has a tiny screen. It must be bigger than 42 inches but when you see it you'll definitely wish you had rented the movie to see on TV instead, because the picture quality would be better. With the chopped up way this theater is set up there are NO good seats. The screen is way up high and off to one side so every seat in the house is bad.\r \r If you are sure the movie you want to see is in theater 1 and you don't care about video or sound quality, take a chance on the Presidio. But don't ever waste money on the smaller screens are you are certain to hate the experience. Pros: Convenient for neighborhood, has all the first run movies Cons: Poor video, poor sound quality, chopped up theaters, cheap furnishings more

How Awesome! 8/10/2005

This theater is my favorite place to go when I'm bored. I don't know what it is about it, but it's just so fun to go to such a great place that has great movies, but in a cozier athmosphere. Best of all, there are two parking lots... each of which are only four blocks away. Pros: Most staff is nice., Always updating movie, Never too crowded. Cons: Some staff are mean., Ext sign block screen more

Save our single screens! 4/10/2003

Great single screen theatre. Sreen is a bit small though. No bargain matinees on weekends (Century Theatres policy). Sometimes I've found the staff to be very rude here. Pros: beautiful theatre, single screen, not crowded Cons: no parking, no bargain matinee, hit or miss staff more
