Unwelcoming 11/18/2010

A friend of mine suggested the Potato Barn when I told them I was looking for a certain item of furniture. I was told that they had very unique items at a good price. As I walked around, I found that my friend was right about one thing, there was some very unique things there. But that was the only thing I felt she got right. It was outrageously over priced. When I found a regular kitchen chair that was snapped in half, I saw the price was $79. I asked one of the people that worked there, if they were really asking for $79 for a broken chair. She told me that some decent wood glue would make it as good as new, and that the price was half of what they paid for it. She told me that they were actually loosing money by selling it. I don't claim to be a wizz at business, but I do know an outrageous lie when I hear it. She continued to tell me that they needed to move out of the current location and everything would be going into storage. It may as well stay there, because I certainly wouldn't go back to have my intelligence insulted again by staff lacking in curtesy and prices that really don't reflect the dusty objects in store. It was a waste of a drive. more

Inspect purchases closely 10/3/2008

Potato Barn does have some unique and beautiful items, but the environment is dusty and smells of mildew, and the owner and employees' attitudes are atrocious. You feel as if you are an intruder and they don't have time for you. \r I would never buy anything upholstered from them. A neighbor purchased a sectional from Potato Barn and, after checking over the item once it was home, discovered the wood framing (underneath) and padding was covered in mold and mildew. Of course, since the store has a no return/refund policy, she is stuck with the putrid thing. Razmataz has similar inventory, a clean store, and better return policy. \r Pros: Unique inventory Cons: Poor customer service, filthy store more

Nothing to rave about 2/4/2008

This store has a lot of potential but there seems to be a lot of negative energy aside from the very dirty environment. The furniture and accessories are refreshingly different but I personally would never buy any of the upholstery. There was a distinct mildew/dusty smell on nearly every piece I looked at. The dark haired woman was very distracted in our conversation, the bearded, dark haired youngish man was arrogant and the guy with the grey hair at the desk seemed disconnected and rude. Weird people. I would think that they would treat people with a little more kindness and interest since we are the ones paying them! Although other places with similar items are a little more money, I would rather spend it there than here where things are dirty and they don't care if you give them your business or not! Pros: good inventory Cons: bad attitudes and very dirty more

don't get it 8/5/2007

I've been hearing about the Potato Barn for a long time so decided to go in and check it out. What I found was a dirty barn full of furniture I wouldn't THINK of putting my children near! I found two black widows under a sectional I looked at and rodent excrement on another one. I got images of rodents and spiders crawling all over the furniture at night when they are alone. I was NOT impressed and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Pros: a lot to choose from Cons: filthy. furniture and building more

Best store in the east valley 3/1/2007

I found this store to be all that my friends have been raving about! At first I felt like I was being ignored but when I mentioned this to another person in the store I was told that the owners didn't want the customer to feel hovered over and that they would ask for help if they needed it. That made sense to me! I asked a tall and lovely pregnant girl for some help and she was so sweet and accomodating! She is one of the owner's daughter and was so patient with me. I felt like I was the only customer in the store as she took me around explaining where things come from and what the store is about. There are no returns and they don't take AMEX or Discover. That was one of the only negatives. The other one was the attitude of the male owner who seemed to prefer not to deal with customers and stay at his desk answering questions with short, unfriendly answers, even toward those he works with . My question was why would he be in this type business if he doesn't like people? Anyway, I love the items I bought and the fact that none of my friends have anything that looks like mine! I will be back for more and more and more. My husband even enjoyed the experience. That says a lot! Pros: great eclectic gathering of furniture and accessories Cons: a bit dirty and cold. weird hours more
