We went to see the symphony here and it was great! The entrance to the hall is spectacular.There are large chandeliers and a beautifully decorated staircase....

We went to see the symphony here and it was great! The entrance to the hall is spectacular.There are large chandeliers and a beautifully decorated staircase.The bar is well stocked and the service is good.The ushers escort you to your seat.It was a lovely evening out to celebrate a special occasion. more

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra 8/20/2005

The Pittsburgh Symphony is most certainly the crown jewel of the cutural district. The PSO is a world-reknown orchestra and is the only American orchestra to have performed before the Pope. Today the Pittsburgh Symphony remains among the world’s top orchestras, continually gathering more fans around the globe. The symphony also attracts many of the world's most famous soloists to give their finest performances. more

PSO & Heinz Hall: Good Stuff 8/20/2005

The PSO is a top notch orchestra that Pittsburgh is lucky to have. The musicians are of excellent caliber but there can be some variance as to how tight they sound depending on the conductor. I recommend romantic and early 20th century pieces that take advantage of the full orchestra's sound in the spacious Heinz Hall. Classical era ensembles are best left to the cozier Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. They are currently trying out a strange directorship-by-committee situation since the departure of Mariss Jansons. more
