We were invited to dinner at Piccolo the other night. The place is small but really comfortable. The music was not loud, lights were dim and romantic.I ordered the grilled tuna special it was the best I ever had,it was rare and seared on the outside with a pineapple glaze. My boyfriend had the veal chop,it looked like a double cut it was so thick and cooked pink on the inside. The only problem Piccolo has is that the portions are so large that we couldn t order dessert.Im so glad we were invited to find this restaurant we will be back. Pros: cozy, romantic, fun place Cons: portions are big,no room for dessert more

Cool looking place, and a great location. I would avoid for brunch/breakfast though. The food was uninspired and the preparation was just plain lazy. We were both disappointed with our food. Especially the eggs benedict. The dish basically consisted of room-temp, untoasted english muffins, slices of cold cut ham straight out of the oscar mayer pack (vs grilled canadian ham in traditional benedict) and very bland hollandaise. All ingredients seemed to be straight out of the jar or 12-pack, directly from the grocery store down the block with no attempt whatsoever to so much as "cook" the ingredients. Maybe the place is a hidden gem like the other reviews suggest at other day parts, but there's a clear lack of effort at brunch. Pros: Atmosphere and location pretty good. Cons: Food was just bad. more

BIG for a small place 7/5/2007

Piccolo means small in Italian but not here.Piccolo is a tiny but cozy ristorante. The food portions are large. The menu has 17 different entrees to choose from. The wine list over 50 bottles to choose from and the prices are not at all high. This place is a winner on all counts. Pros: The place is small but everything else is big! Cons: not one more

I went to piccolo on a saturday night when it was miserable out. Even though I had reservations and got my table right away, i was shocked to see an absolutely packed restaurant. It's a little on the small side but was a cozy, dimly lit restaurant that is a nice place for a date. Prices were on the average side for an italian restaurant but the food was delicious so you really do get your money's worth. It's a nice place that I can see myself going to again. Pros: romantic, good food and service Cons: crowded, makes having reservations a must more

We go to Piccolo at least twice a week. The last two times we noticed something different.Piccolo has the best food in Gramercy, but now it is even better. We heard and tried the specials-out of this world.Even the presentation is different. At the end of our meal we asked Tony the maitre d if they got a new chef. The answer was,YOU COULD SEE AND TASTE IT RIGHT? YES,YOU COULD.The only problem now is that I ll be there three times a week! Pros: NEW CHEF,NEW FOOD Cons: Hope I could book a table now more

I have been going to Piccolo since it opened three years ago.Last night we went and had the best dinner yet.As soon as our waitress told us the specials I knew something was different. When our entrees arrived you could see the difference in presentation. We started to eat and we all looked at each other with amazement. With our mouths full we all said the same thing at once,NEW CHEF ! The food was outstanding! Pros: NEW CHEF NEW MENU Cons: NOT EXPENSIVE more

Piccolo is the perfect name for this restaurant, being so small. The pasta special I had was the best I ever had.The salmon glazed with honey and rum with cracked pepper was good. The chocolate mousse was rich but lite. The place is so romantic and casual. The crowd is young and hip. Pros: pasta, chicken, veal, fish special every night Cons: small room, hope they expand more

We were searching all of 3rd Ave. for a sidewalk cafe to eat. After 20 minutes we found Piccolo restaurant, luckely there was one table open,we jumped on the chairs right away. The pasta rigatoni was something I never had before. It had sausage, broccoli, peas, mushrooms and more with white wine and a touch of tomato. The chocolate cheesecake was too much to finish. It turned out to be a good night with great food. Also,Michelle our waitress was really cute and funny. Pros: sidewalk cafe more

Piccolo is the place to really eat.The portions are big and the prices are low.We had a three course dinner and we had four glasses of wine and the bill was alot less then all the other restaurants in gramercy.Try the chicken piccolo. Pros: good dinner, not expensive Cons: gets busy early more

ROMANTIC 3/9/2007

We had the best experience last night at Piccolo. This tiny restaurant is the most romantic dining setting I ever seen. The lights are low, music not blaring, candles flickering. The food is just like in Italy.Sitting at the table next to us was Jimmy Fallon.Across the room was the sister of Tony Soprano,I forget her name. The waitress Michelle made our night with her quick talk and jokes. Pros: TRY AND GET A TABLE NEAR THE FIRE PLACE Cons: ONLY FOUR TABLES NEAR THE FIRE PLACE more

I live in Gramercy and have been going to Piccolo since it opened.I always had a very good dinner there. The waitstaff knows my name and were always polite. The food is very good and tasty.I have never complained about the food and service.People who don t know about food and service should go out for pizza. Pros: A REAL ITALIAN RISTORANTE Cons: NONE more

My beau and I went there because it is close to my apt and it was Friday and didnt have a place to eat. I would have been better off just going to get a slice of pizza. Food was bland and servers were weirdos. The music is not consistent with the atmosphere. The place is tiny and that wouldn't even matter if the food was amazing, bu tthat was just not the case. Pros: close proximity to my apartment. Cons: ambience, food, service, price more

It was one of the coldest nites last week.We walked by Piccolo and saw a fireplace blazing from the window. We went in and waited for a table next to it.We sat right in the window next to it watching people walking bye freezing. We ordered a bottle of wine and had a very good dinner.I had the lamb,my friend had the tuna.It was very romantic. We didn t want to leave. Our waitress Michelle was very nice. She told us she was going into real estate. We wish her the best.Piccolo is the place to be in the winter. Pros: fireplace on a cold nite more

We had dinner last week at Piccolo and had to review it.I m a pasta lover{my stomach shows it} I had the rigatone piccolo. The pasta was cooked al dente, perfect. The mixture of items in it all fresh and flavorful. We had a couple of glasses of the house wine and it tasted very good.he service was young and to my surprise very professional. One of the waitresses that we spoke to was telling us she just got her real estate license.I told her that we will miss her next time we come in and she replied Im not going to leave here,my father owns the place. Pros: best pastas more

Me and my wife went there for the prix-fixe dinner. Place is beautifully decorated, and 4 waitresses were available. Appetizers and main course were good, but dessert was the best! Service was good as well. Pros: Wonderful food, friendly service, great value Cons: place could be a little bigger more

Mediocre at best... 10/6/2006

Walked in for dinner and was greeted by a friendly host. The waitresses looked like young H.S kids and they stood around and gossiped, which in my opinion isn't professional at all. I had their penne with meatballs. The meatballs were a bit mushy and the penne pasta could have been better. Half the pasta was cooked al dente while the other half was undercooked. The taste overall was pretty good. The person I was with ordered the stuffed chicken and he said it was okay. The dessert was the best part. Had the apple tarte and it was delicious! Pros: apple tarte dessert Cons: undercooked pasta more
