We had our driveway paved 4 years ago by Phillip's Paving Company. Cracks starting appearing in the asphalt the very first summer. Phillip's filled the cracks and explained that a few cracks were normal. Well, a short 4 years after it was installed the driveway is falling apart. It took nearly a month to get the company to come to our home and assess the driveway. We were then told that the driveway, estimated to last 20 years at instillation, was falling apart due to dry weather and shifting ground. All factors beyond their control. We have numerous cracks over 10 feet long and an inch wide. Phillip's offered to fill the crack with tar, at our cost of course. We paid thousands of dollars to have the driveway put in and it lasted 4 years. Now Phillips wants us to pay hundreds more to fill the cracks. No thanks. I have had several other companies look at the driveway and recommend repairs. All told me that asphalt driveways typically do last around 20 years. Four years is "unexpected". Filling the cracks with tar may extend the life of the driveway a few years. Maybe not. We will most likely have to fill new cracks each year. We are going to try this repair to delay the cost of installing a new driveway as long as possible. But, it looks terrible and we will have to replace it in a few years. I won't be using Phillip's Paving Company ever again. Four years is not only unexpected, it is unacceptable.
